Yes, the title of the thread says it all! Being from a small community that loves football
Season, that has been to the pinnacle of the Mountain years ago with a Group A State
Championship, and then suffered through the bottom pit of 1-9 & 2-8, this year has been
A present from above.

I, for one, am not worried about what seeding my team has this year. Heck, I am just glad
We are probably going to the playoffs. Talk about being humbled. You guys that have not
Seen a losing season in years, and are worried about your seed, try seeing the very bottom
Of the barrel the next few years. If you do, seeding will be the last thing on your mind.

I look at those teams that have no chance of making the playoffs this year. Folks, if you are
One of those teams, I think about you, and I feel you pain. You are not walking alone, My
Friends.

Let's give a shout out to those teams that in 2 weeks their season will be over. They started
The season with the same high hopes and expectations as the others, but things just did
Not go their way. Injuries, low turnout, Tough schedules, coaching changes, may have played
A part in their season not being as they had hoped. But I bet those guys hit the field every
Friday night with a feeling of Pride and Dignity for their school and community.

Guys, You didn't quit, and I commend you for that. There will be no trophy to hoist in the air,
But you can bet, there are many guys that appreciate you, just as much as the ones crowned
Champions in December. Hey, next year is just around the corner!

I'm with you on not caring about seed if GW is 16 it doesn't matter. When mid Nov comes you have to win them all or go home. Best of luck to everyone and let's all pray for no injuries. It's coming fellas soon we will all know.

Since I moved to NoVa I've "adopted" Rappahannock County and Quantico as my teams to watch here. Seeing those two schools finally have some success makes prouder than I can put in words! Quantico will be hosting a playoff game in two weeks actually, cannot wait to see it!

I will share this with you also. My Friday nights are somewhat unconventional for an
Avid football fan. I enjoy watching the youngsters play, and try to attend as many games
As my health will allow. I first have to make sure my disabled son is OK. He recently
Fell for the 2nd time and broke his ankle again. He played football in high school, and
I was and still am very proud of him. He is 42 and a grad of E&H and taught school
For a while.

A few years back he was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the base of his brain. The Dr's
Said just hope and pray that the tumor remains the same size or shrinks. Thank God, it
Is smaller now. When he is feeling OK and my wife is too, I go and pick up a 79 yr old
Friend and take him to the games. Each year, it is more difficult for us both to get around.
He is getting along in yrs, and I will be 67 soon, but God has blessed me with so much,
It is just a joy to be able to get out and enjoy life, and see the team play.

I want dwell on myself, because there are those out there that can not get out of the house.
Their lives are limited to four walls and a TV, and a TV dinner. My Goodness, how blessed
I am. By coincidence, I am deaf in my left ear, and my friend is deaf in his right ear. Well,
It does make a difference how we sit on the bleachers, because if we sit wrong, we can't
Hear a darn thing when talking to each other. It makes for some funny looks from people
Around us when we start talking loud, over nothing.

Life is short, My Friends. It seems like yesterday that I was in high school and college. Now,
Well If the Good Lord sees fit, just maybe I can see a few more games with my friend. Heck,
I enjoy taking him to the games, just about as much as the games we watch. It is getting
Cold now, and both of us can not bare cold weather, because of our heart conditions and
Meds we take makes us shiver easily.

Football is good in many ways. It can bring out the best in someone, or it can bring out the
Very worst in someone. I try to over look the worst part, and turn the other cheek. There
Are no losers in football. I wish they could do away with that darn scoreboard, and watch
The kids play. Some people watch the scoreboard more than the kids. A game is good
When no one gets hurt. The best part of the Game is the National Anthem and we all
Stand for our Country. The other thing I like, is when the players shake hands after the
Game.

That's life, My Friends, it doesn't get any better than that!

I respect you more than any other person on this or any other board. You are what every single one of us should strive to be. And one day I hope to have the knowledge of this game that you have. Again thank you for being the voice of reason and for your passion.

Blaster, thank you , My Friend. I love your passion for the game, and I admire your insight
That you have for the X's and O's of the different teams. GW is lucky to have a fan like
You, that shows their support for their school, and plays a vidal part in the sandlot
Program at Wytheville.
As we enter the so called 2nd season, playoff time, I wish the very best for all teams that
Will participate. My Prayer is that no player will get injured, and good sportmanship will
Prevail at every stadium.
It soon will be Playoff time in Virginia!

My daughter played on a losing basketball team for 3 years in 2000 - 03 I think the most games they won where 7 in her senior year, but they showed up every game and gave it all they had, injuries and lack of height was their biggest problem,it was not lack of effort, one night they came within a bucket of upsetting the eventual runnerup for the class A state championship and you would have thought they had won the world's championship, she learned a lot in those three short years, she told me one day you learn a lot about yourself when times are hard, she went on to college, became a school teacher and now uses those lessons to help her students in middle school.I remember one night when she scored 27 points and I said great game, she looked me in the eye and said we lost, that night I learned something about my daughter.Tell those kids to stay after it,there is a lot more to life than football.

Hey Charlie, Thanks for your great story of your daughter. What a class person she is,
And you too as a parent. It is stories like this that characterizes who we are as individuals
On God's Earth.
What a great role model for her middle school students. You are Exactly right; there is
A lot more to life than football, or sports in general. You must be very proud, and I am proud
For you. And as she said: " You learn a lot about yourself when times are hard." And like
I have always said; " Hard times do not last for ever ". Her being a teacher now is prove
Of that. Thanks for sharing your story, My Friend

This was awesome...you put things in such a wonderful prospective. I honestly had skipped over this thread in the past but I'mm thankful I was lead to read today. Life is precious and these moments we cant take for granted. You make me want to come watch a game with you and your family. I would love to listen to the stories you and your friend have and learn from your years of being around the game.

Chilwar is an amazing person I've never meet him in person but hope to. He always has words of wisdom and his knowledge of the game is among the top. Myself and Chilwar have had words in the past but he and I have become good friends on here. Thank you Chilwar for your wisdom, experience, and stories of games and times past.
