Fire Franklin. I’m tired of losing big games.
That's big game spirit!Fire Franklin. I’m tired of losing big games.
Obviously. When you can pay someone $60 million to not coach, you always have to go for it. Especially when you could try to throw away this season as we're a top 10 team that's still more likely than not to make the playoff.Fire Franklin. I’m tired of losing big games.
I know, it’s not like me. Just want to win these games. That's big game spirit!
I would not say a "lock" but looking very good. I am not convinced we get in with 2 losses and OSU and Indiana still await.Go ahead and vent if that’s what you think you need today. None of us are immune to the anxiety.
If we win, we’re a lock to the playoffs. Those are the stakes this weekend, it’s there staring at us in the face.
I'll say it again. There is nothing more emotional than the rabid male sports fan.Go ahead and vent if that’s what you think you need today.
That’s the truth. The only guarantees to be 10–2 or better most years are James Franklin, Ryan Day, Kirby Smart, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Marcus Freeman, Dan Lanning and Steve Sarkisian. I think Dabo is now off that list and looks like a defeated man this year. The only guarantee to get to the promised land are Ryan Day, Kirby Smart, Urban Meyer, Nick Saban. Two of those coaches are retired and the other two are not leaving their respective schools. Otherwise, you’re looking at catching lightning in the bottle coming out of FCS or D2. That’s a huge freaking risk. Maybe Matt Campbell or Curt Cignetti could do it with the resources of PSU.Annually going 10-2 is disappointing until you find the successor coach brings you 9-3 and 8-4.
You never met my father. Holy hell…I'll say it again. There is nothing more emotional than the rabid male sports fan.
When we win how about we fire you and you never posFire Franklin. I’m tired of losing big games.
More power to you, that you would have the ability to look at it that way. If you could bottle this skill you’d make a mint.I don’t want us to lose, but if we do, watching some of the clowns on here losing their sh*t will at least be entertaining.
I gotta say, I like Fran Brown at Syracuse also and what he is doing, but can he get to the level of those other guys? It remains to be seen. That’s the truth. Well that’s a bit extreme! When we win how about we fire you and you never pospost again![]()
No. They won’t. They’ll be absent here until something that doesn’t appease them occurs. If we win, does anyone think the Franklin haters will even care? I doubt it.
They will shut up ONLY until he loses the next “big game”. If that long. They love to ***** and whine and act like football game outcomes really impact their lives. And if the outcomes truly do impact their lives, well they need to get some help.If we win, does anyone think the Franklin haters will even care? I doubt it.
Have you been married?I'll say it again. There is nothing more emotional than the rabid male sports fan.
Lurking…No. They won’t. They’ll be absent here until something that doesn’t appease them occurs.
For 26 years and it’s no contest. I’ll put my wife against the bwi game day thread any day of the week.Have you been married?![]()
F yeah, no question. 25 years on this board and I’ve checked the game day thread once. I’d rather open a box full of rattlesnakes. For 26 years and it’s no contest. I’ll put my wife against the bwi game day thread any day of the week.
You might be on to something.Well that’s a bit extreme!
Ain't Happening. Gonna win this one.Fire Franklin. I’m tired of losing big games.
You’re not gonna be too popular here. But some of us will fully agree with everything you said.Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way but it sure looks to me like PSU has gone in the last 15 years from a mess of a program on the periphery of the top 25 to a solid top 10 program, maybe top 5, likely regular playoff team, one of the elite factories for NFL talent, maybe on the verge of being one of the superprograms like Ohio State and Michigan and Oregon that contend for championships and rule college football. Correct me if I'm wrong about this but I think the guy who's run the PSU football program during this long rise has been a guy named James Franklin. And he's done it without cheating. And people here are saying they want to fire him if the team loses a football game on Saturday. Hmmm.
I think people here ought to be worried about losing Franklin if PSU doesn't surpass last year's success but it will be because some other place wants to hire him for a truckload of money to do what he's done at PSU. And if he were to leave, the odds are frankly not great that his successor would be as successful. If you want to see PSU continue to rise (and rising is harder the higher you get), I think your best odds would be to stay with the guy who has rebuilt the program to where it is. I've been a college football fan for nearly 60 years and that would be my long-term perspective.
My only issue with anything you wrote is that Michigan is not consistently better than Penn State. They had a run of 3 good years when they were cheating. Before Harbaugh started cheating they had a long stretch of mediocrity and the first year after they were caught cheating they were once again mediocre. Funny how that worked out. Throw out the cheating years and Franklin is 3-3 vs Michigan with a better record overall.I agree with something Landon Tengwall said this week:
"James Franklin will be the head coach at Penn State for as long as he wants to be the head coach at Penn State."
The bottom line is that Penn State has had more success under CJF than most college football programs have had during his tenure. And by "most" we're talking maybe 5 other programs in the nation are consistently better than Penn State...? Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, Alabama, more recently Oregon...?
As far as having a better record against big opponents... what is the answer there, if you replace Franklin? What is the "magic" solution where we're suddenly recruiting better and improving to 5-5 against Ohio State over a 10-year stretch, and able to regularly beat Michigan?
Those aren't rhetorical questions. I'm genuinely asking because I don't know.
Franklin's long-standing complaint is that the University is spending insufficient money on the football program, and that's why they can't get it done against tougher opponents. But with the new Adidas deal, that excuse is losing a lot of traction.
The previous deal under Nike was bringing in $5 million a year. The Adidas deal is bringing in $30 million a year, and it makes Penn State the #1 program under the Adidas brand. That's a massive bump.
Maybe this deal is what gets Franklin over the hump. Maybe within the next couple of years, we start to see his record improve against elite opponents?
For now, let's see what happens on Saturday and assess what happens on the field for what it is.

How exactly is big game James losing messing up my life, I’d love to know lolThey will shut up ONLY until he loses the next “big game”. If that long.
