will the hype of being 4-0 going into the A&M game with a 2 week layoff top 7-0 and #WeBelieve?

Among our own fan base, I think it would be close, but overall I would have to say no because of the opponent. A&M won't be #1 like Bama was. It's easy to look back now and say #IBelieve wasn't all that much because we hadn't beaten much of anyone to get there, but there was a lot of hope and a fair amount of optimism going into that game. It was also a Saturday night ESPN game.

Probably. I wish Auburn came before A&M. If we were 4-0 and hosting Auburn, that would be in-tents.

Yes. We beat LSU in DV at night and there's going to be rampant partying on campus waiting for the buses to get back. We'll have accomplished more in that one game than in the entire first 7 in 2012 and in the entirity of Mullen's career if we're being honest...

If we get past LSU, I'll be confident that we'll beat aTm, and the Auburn game will be the craziest/most meaningful in Starkville in a long, long time. We will win the 3 after that. I'd fully expect to have my soul ripped out in that game, given recent history though. Either way, if we managed to beat LSU, we're looking at 9-0 or 8-1 going into the Bama game with some pretty real west implications at that point. Looking at 10-1 or 9-2 going into the Egg Bowl.

That game is totally monstrous for us if you start looking at the schedule behind it and what could potentially happen if we won it...

5-0 against Auburn would come close. Rivalry, last SEC team to lose a NC game, $cam, Barrette Sally, Marshmellow, etc.

It would be a much bigger let down if we lost to A&M because people may actually believe after winning a game against a real opponent at their place. Going into Bama 7-0 was fun but there weren't many rational fans who didn't see the writing on the wall.

I'll give Mullen credit where it is due. We win the games we are supposed to win. I just hope that analysts start to think we are supposed to win more of them. Upsetting LSU would go a long damn way in that regard.

I usually feel we have a better shot at Bama. We tend to go into full tard mode at LSU.
However, history says special years when we beat LSU.

From an outsider, yes. The 7-0 thing everyone knew was, let's say, empty. Beat LSU, and the nation will believe the hype. Including myself.

Y'all thought we were obnoxious with 7-0 - if we beat LSU - I might have to punch myself in the face b/c I will be so obnoxious.

If we somehow beat LSU, A&M, and Auburn then people around the region will be calling Bama fans the rational ones. I dare say, as a fan base, we would be borderline unbearable to be around. We'd have to fly Prince down because we would be partying like it's 1999.

For me, the we believe when we were 7-0 was just for fun more than anything else. I never thought for a second that we had any realistic chance of winning at Bama. So yeah, empty is a decent way of describing it. I suspect that if we beat LSU in Baton Rouge, it will give us more credibility than we had at 7-0, but I think a lot of the nation will attribute at least some of it to "well, looks like all that early attrition finally caught up to LSU."

What we are all overlooking is the we are MSU factor, which means if we somehow came out of that three week stretch undefeated or even with one loss, we'd find a way to lose to Kentucky on the road or Arkansas the following week at home. [NOTE: As a State fan, I've come to condition myself to fear both what should be feared as well as what seems unlikely.]

LSU is going to shear so much wool around here. It's like people have blacked out for the last three decades. We are 3-26 since 1985 against LSU.

We're more likely to be 3-3 after the Auburn game than we are to be 6-0.

I expect us to be 6-3 (7-2 if we get lucky) heading into Bama. If that's the case, I could see us giving them a real scare. The SEC did us a huge favor giving us Bama the week after they play LSU. Maybe we can take advantage and steal one from them.

Why all the love for A@M. For petesake their whole team is in Cleveland now. Their defense sucked last year and won't be any better this year. The Oline. Hey JFF wasn't running for is life every play for fun last year and their best receiver is also in the NFL..

We were officially 6-34-4 against Ole Miss when Jackie got here too. We may never consistently beat them again, but the streak with LSU is going to end at some point. This year is one of the better chances we'll have to do it -- getting them in week 4 with a ton of roster turnover and likely a freshman starting QB still early in his career that will be seeing his first real defense. Nevermind the potential psychological implications of Harris considering Dak Prescott his role model -- and 2 of the primary players expected to carry us being Louisiana natives that were mostly spurned by LSU.

I'm certainly not saying we're going to beat them. Only 2 teams have beaten them in DV at night under Les Miles -- the Bama national title team in 2012 and the Tim Tebow Sugar Bowl Championship team in 2009. But to say we don't have a chance because of "the streak" doesn't make much sense at this point. This team is going to beat someone it's not supposed to -- and they seem pretty ripe for the picking. Their style plays right into our defensive strengths too.

We don't have a chance for a myriad of reasons, the streak is just a nice symbol of all the reasons we don't have a chance.

But hey, we managed to keep the difference under five touchdowns last year (barely). So there's that.

Tennessee's whole team went to Indianapolis in 1997. They responded by winning the whole damn thing. I expect A&M to be pretty good this year. Not championship good, but very good.

And we don't know that game is at night yet either. Has an outside chance at 2:30, only Alabama/Florida is the other contender.

What are these "myriad of reasons" that we don't have a chance? You are literally the only person claiming this. Including every talking head.

The final score last year was misleading and you know it.

It'll be a complete shock if we beat LSU...

I completely agree with this... And I wouldn't be totally surprised if we lost at Kentucky as well. Road games in the SEC are tough and I think UK will be A) better than last year (and it's not like we blew them out of the water) and B) up for a game against us - especially if we've just lost three in a row.

I'll add my usual disclaimer: I'll be very happy to be wrong.

Don't forget Beckham and Landry. They were unstoppable last year, and they're gone. I like our chances in this one.

CM is apparently a miserable human, so I'll ignore him.

I have completely resigned myself to the fact that we will never beat LSU again.
Like........EVER.
Beckham and Landry replaced Shepard replaced Ware replaced Jefferson replaced Peterson replaced Holliday replaced Doucet replaced Hester replaced Addai and on and on and on.
We'll have to get lucky to beat them. We WON'T be better than them, and it's in BR. I like their chances.

CBS won't pass on Bama-Florida for a game that happens every year, especially one with a series as recently lopsided as State-LSU. It's gonna be a night game at Tiger Stadium on one of the ESPN networks. And I can't wait.

How is a final score misleading? Did they score several touchdowns while we were in the locker room? We lost by 33. At home. I don't like our chances at their place. Even a little bit.

As to the reasons: They are better than us. They have a better coaching staff than we do. Their stadium offers a substantial home field advantage. We will not catch them off guard being their SEC opener. We don't score upset wins in the Mullen era and they will be favored.

For some reason, the first LSU player that I distinctly remember from our annual rapings is Kevin Faulk, and I recall thinking as soon as I saw him in person that we would most likely never have a player that good at MSU in my lifetime. As you pointed out, though, the frustrating thing about it is not that Kevin Faulk was that good. It's that LSU replaces guys like that with players that are just as good every year.

I completely agree. We might be better than we were last year, but we weren't very good last year. We had to go 4-1 in one possession games to get to 6-6. What if UK has improved more than we've improved? We were fortunate to beat them last year at home (even if the crowd was anemic).

State is better than 2012, LSU is worse than 2012.

In 2012, we were within 6 pts in the 4th qtr before TR threw a pick six that sealed the game.
In 2013, we were within 6 pts in the 4th qtr before an almost pick-six, turnover on downs, a fumble.

This is going to be LSU's 3rd of 4 straight home games. If ever there was a chance to win there, it is now.

This game is going to be difficult to even keep close. It's all but certain that this is a night game. They don't lose night games often in DV. I'd give us less than a 30% chance to win. I'm just hoping we keep it respectable, and we limit the injuries. A loss here won't be the end of the world, if we battle and keep it close until the end. If we get blown out....pack it up and look forward to 2015.

Good call - 1998, 4-7 LSU @$$ rapes us with a telephone pole 41-6 (and it wasn't that close) at DWS. We finish 8-3 (6-2) and go to Atlanta. However, if LSU blows us out in DV this year, may as well give up. I'm not saying we will win the west this year by any means, but a blow out loss this year doesn't mean the season is over. We could still go 9-3 fairly easily and have a decent shot at 10-2 even if LSU kills us. DV is a strange place filled with dark vodoo magic. A bad loss there is not necessarily an omen of what the rest of the season will be.

No he's a GP'er because he thinks I'm "a miserable human" for thinking we'd lose to a team we haven't beaten in 14 years.

no, i think it's 60/40 we lose. i just don't think it's a given. You may not be miserable, but your outlook in this instance is. i think this is a good a shot as we've had in a long time.
