Important Parking and Shuttle Information for Monongalia County Ballpark Opening Weekend[/B]
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 9, 2015) - [/B]The West Virginia University baseball team will open Monongalia County Ballpark this weekend with a three-game non-conference series against the Butler Bulldogs. The action starts at 6 p.m. Friday with the first-ever game in the Mountaineers' new home and continues with game two on Saturday at 4 p.m. and the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
"As construction crews have worked furiously over the past month to prepare the new ballpark for Friday's opener, it's important for fans to know the ballpark and the surrounding site are still a work in progress and will remain that way through the conclusion the WVU baseball season," said Matt Wells, WVU Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs. "The parking lots closest to the stadium will not be ready so the WVU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has made alternative arrangements for parking near the ballpark site to better accommodate fans on this historic weekend for WVU baseball.
"We really appreciate the cooperation we have received from the neighboring businesses in the University Town Centre Development and from the Mountain Line Transit Authority," Wells added.
Free parking will be available for fans at many of the University Town Centre businesses closest to the ballpark. Fans are encouraged to take advantage of the available parking at the following University Town Centre locations: Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Target, Ashley Furniture Home Store, Dick's Sporting Goods and Giant Eagle
All parking at these participating locations is available along the perimeter of the individual lots. WVU baseball fans are asked to be respectful of the customers at each of the retail locations identified and not park in the interior sections of the lots reserved for customers.
At Wal-Mart and Sam's Club, the exterior spots for fans are striped with white paint, while the interior parking spaced for customers are striped with yellow paint. At Giant Eagle, available spots are located at the perimeter of its lot closest to GetGo.
Additionally, free parking and shuttle service also will be available at the WVU Natatorium lot near the WVU Coliseum for the opening weekend at Monongalia County Ballpark. Fans can park at the WVU Natatorium and ride a free shuttle bus to the ballpark for each game this weekend. Shuttle service begins at 4:30 p.m., Friday, 2:30 p.m., Saturday and 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Shuttle service will run continuously up to game time and return fans to the WVU Natatorium lot for one hour after the conclusion of each game.
ADA Accessible Parking
Limited ADA accessible parking on a first-come basis will be available for free at Monongalia County Ballpark in the lot closest to Gate A, which is located behind the left-center field wall. An ADA parking permit holder will be required to park in the spots reserved for ADA parking only. Fans who wish to access this ADA parking must present the following information to the WVU parking staff at the new ballpark:
