Mullen was out-coached on our last possession in regulation.
I don't think Mullen wasout-coached as much as he just made the wrong decision. Which is easy for us to say now.I think he knew they were going to load up on the run coming out of the TO. However, he stayed with what we always run in that situation. He went conservative and played for the FG.While hoping maybe Relf or Ballard would bust a run for aTD. Whichheand everyone else knew was highly unlikely given the TO and them switching personnel.
The thing that gets me about the sequence.....at least throw the ballinto the endzone once. Because.....we damn near ran out of time running. Second, even if you get the first down on the third down run. You have to throw it on first down from the 5. Why not throw it earlier? Otherwise, if you run, and don't get it.... you don't get the FG unit on the field. Third, we put ourselves right back into the situation in the 2nd OT. We face a 3rd and 7 and throw it there. Time was not a factor in that situation. Then we are in 4th and 7 and a FG is not an option and everyone knows we are throwing.
Again, easy to say today, butthe play calling for those two situations were reversed. We should haveran the quick slant to Arceto Clark in regulation. Then ran on third down in OT to set up a manageable 4th down or possible 1st down.
