would you want him fired?

Simply replace all Petrino reports with the name Mullen, place the wreck around Columbus (nearly the same distance as they were from Fayetteville), hot girl on the motorcycle that Mullen hired for the fundraising, girl is engaged to athletic department employee, etc.

Leave everything else about the two men as they are in reality (meaning only the last week's events are different and nothing else).

Go................

if that was the case, keep him. If it's as it is, tougher call.

it makes it almost a no brainer to want him to stay if he had a 21-5 record but where we are right now, not so much.

I don't think we would have a choice but to fire Dan if he did something like that.

People talk about us being raked over the coals by the media for Cutcliffing a coach- this is something that the media would rake us over the coals about if we did nothing. This would be at least as big as Renardo vs. Elgin in Hawaii.

It would be used against us in recruiting big time, it would look like we are some rogue university that only cares about protecting certain people.

And if we tried to cover it up and people found out about like Petrino- the media would be- "Well, what else are they trying to cover up? Remember that Cam Newton stuff? What if they have some Sandusky type stuff going on?"

And to top it all off- I think it would split our fanbase big time. This is a school in the Bible belt we're talking about. That actually would be the worst thing in my opinion. Because some people would feel very strongly about getting rid of him, and some would say- he's winning and he has done a good job.

And let's not fall into the same trap with Dan that a lot of our fans fell into with Polk and Stansbury- thinking that those are the only people that can win at MSU. We have a pretty good program right now with a lot of support and we are in the SEC. We can get someone else that can coach and probably do just as well as Dan is. Jackie Sherrill also had success- and heck- even Croom was able to get us to a bowl and he didn't know what the hell he was doing. We're not Duke.

We can get us someone else that can go 7-6 like Dan last year and keep a hottie off of his chopper. And no- this would not be like the basketball search because we have at least two good viable candidates in Chris Wilson and Mark Hudspeth that would probably take the job within a week and both would probably do a good job. And heck- who knows? We might even be able to get someone even better for all I know, but I would certainly be fine with either Chris or Hud.

Interesting discussion I had today, Re: Petrino. If Mullen did the EXACT same thing....

If Dan Mullen did the same thing, I would be shocked. I wasn't shocked when I heard that Petrino had done it. I don't know Mullen personally, but my perception is that it would be totally out of character. But Petrino seems to the the arrogant type who thinks he can get away with anything (he could have at least used a car ... I would think he would be immediately recognized on his motorcycle, and the blonde wouldn't be invisible ... so carrying her around openly like that is nothing but arrogance).

Even so, having an affair is not illegal and doesn't warrant firing, for either Dan or Petrino. What appears to be Petrino's biggest problem is not lying to the police or even the AD about what happened ... it's that he hired the girl a week ago, and it seems that he primarily hired her with state funds as his sex toy. THAT is illegal.

So yes, if Dan did the exact same thing, he should be fired too, regardless of win/loss record ... and not fired on moral grounds but fired because he had the state hire her to fulfill his fantasies.

I'm not even sure it's sexual harassment since she was a willing participant. It may be because he was her boss, so she may have perceived it as a condition of employment.

The pigs will probably keep him because of his record. If his record was backwards he would be gone by dark. Their
problem is going to be as another poster said? Do you think this is the first time?

That's the problem, he made it being on the clock when he hired her. If he wants to have an affair? Who cares, except his wife and the parents of potential recruits. He brought it in house. '

I still think he survives this though. They really want to keep this guy, he is 21-5.

If you pee positive I must fire you. I have no options and I cannot help you. I owe that to the people in the company who follow the rules.

They U-Ark must fire him, ifhe hired a woman he was having an affair with. If they determine that to be the truth, he has peed positive and must be fired. Those are the rules. To not follow them releases everyone else from a requirement for compliance and opens theuniversity up to thousands of legitimate lawsuits..

Would you "want" him fired.

"Want" is a trick word. Of course we would not want Mullen fired.....just like Hog fans don't want Petrino fired. Replace "want" with "should" and you've got a different scenario.

What if you keep him around and he does something stupid again? MSU is then known as the University that didn't fire the guy that hired a young girl just because he was banging them. I'm not attorney, but I assume that opens yourself up to some nasty lawsuits. Not to mention the repercussions from your reputation being tarnished.

Once he brought this stuff into the workplace, you don't have much choice. I think you have to fire the guy to protect the University.

Something along the lines of when you buy a player at the college level, you don't own the player, the player owns you.<div>
</div><div>That's exactly what happens when you hire your mistress. She owns you. It's a %@%%++@ license to steal for the paramour. </div><div>
</div><div>They aren't going to do **** while they are employed, but nothing's going to happen to them because the supervisor/%%!% buddy is going to cover for them. Once the relationship ends, the favors stop, and the poor performance is exposed. Paramour is fired or demoted. Paramour blames fire or demotion on the fact that she stopped %@%%++@ the supervisor. The lawyers get involved, and all hell breaks loose.</div>

I think he's done. He's already exposed the University to a suit, and if the University doesn't proceed carefully they could be facing multiple suits. The only sure way to avoid them is to fire him.
