I would also say he IS the biggest bust by far. At least Dontae gave us a good year or two early on in his career.

I know Elliot was injury related and Fair I think was injury (before my time). They don't even come close. Elliot and Fair don't have control of being inured.

Now if, you want to say the RSS did not live up to the hype and his potential, I will agree. He averaged almost a double double last year, that's not a bust IMO...

Elliot looked decent before getting hurt & David Fair looked like one bad mo-fo before getting hurt (see 89 UT game). And to not reply to multiple replies, I agree with the guy above about Tyrus Boswell (don't recall if Bubba Wilson was as highly recruited but would label him as a bust, too).

And who cares if you average 10 points a game if you allow a dozen easy layups and/or sit the bench due to foul trouble all game, along with being an immature locker room problem.

While googling Boswell's career, I ran up on the OLD Gene's Page skuttlebutt on Boswell....check out a few of our old Dogs back then.

05/31/97 - I was told that MSU signee Tyrus Boswell will go to Winchendon Prep School (Ma.). Why a Mass. Prep School I don't know. No matter, he will be a Bulldog the fall of 1998.
</p>

05/30/97 - According to a souce of mine, Memphis recruiting guru Keith Easterwood of WHBQ radio, said Miss State had a consensus top five basketball recruiting class. My source also said Keith is putting on a basketball all-star game in Memphis on June 7th at Shelby State CC. The main event will be at 8:00 p.m. which will feature many Midsouth high school stars, including MSU signees Tyrus Boswell, Tang Hamilton and Marckell Patterson. Hope some of you Memphis Bulldogs get a chance to go and see this game. Tell me what your impressions are. I'll pass it along to all the other Bulldog fans.
</p>

05/27/97 - It is official, MSU forward Terry Lawyer has signed with Gulf Coast CC. With Tyrus Boswell not meeting freshman eligibility requirements, MSU will now have 13 players on scholarship next season.
</p>

05/24/97 - Miss State's recruiting efforts were ranked the 6th best in the country by Recruiter's Handbook. According to RH, "Coach Richard Williams has shown with his recruiting this year that Mississippi State will be tough to beat in the future." RH has Tyrus Boswell rated 45th in the nation and Tang Hamilton 98th. Two of the Jucos, Detrick White and Oral Roberts, are rated 6th and 31st nationally.

Sidney may to be the biggest bust, but he was a bust.

He was a top10 national recruit, and at for a long time, the top recruit.
Compared to what was expected, he didnt even accomplish 10% of it.

No one outside of the state of Mississippi has ever known who Robert Elliot is. Sid is easily the most hyped recruit we have ever had in any sport and he ended up being one of the main reasons our winningest coach ever "retired". If he is just half of what he was supposed to be (insert joke here) with only half of the off-the-court issues, Stansbury is still our coach and these last couple of years look a lot different.<div>
</div><div>It's not even close...Renardo Sidney has to be one of the top 10 all time SEC basketball busts.</div>

I see no other player even close to being as big a bust. I don't consider players with injury problems a bust. What makes Sidney and Walker so bad is that they both could have been outstanding players if they had given even a half effort. Their remarks thereafter blaming their troubles on others makes the decision even easier.

completely destroy their knee early in their college career? I guess I've never felt that someone undergoing a severe medical condition qualified as a bust.

Dontae Walker. Super stud RB out of high school. I think he was the #3 RB in the country. Extremely talented. Big, strong, fast. Then went RSS on us. Got fatter & slower with time. Embarrassing by his Sr year and was literally booed off the field on senior day.

Sidney was at least capable of performing when he left here. When Dontae Walker left here, he couldn't have made any other team's roster. Walker couldn't perform anymore even if he wanted to.

For someone that was ranked the best at his sport for a majority of their pre-college life, to come in and not even make third team all-conference, is a major bust. I don't remember Elliot or Fair being rated as the best at their positions before coming to State.

has always been stuck in my head. Also, I'm with you. Sidney may be the biggest basketball bust in MSU history, but there has never been a bust that has come close to the magnitude of Dontae Walker. From 1998-present, I have only missed a couple Memphis Maroon Club gatherings and I can tell you without hesitance that I have never seen the coaches so giddy about a a recruit as when we signed Dontae. Not even close. I remember him talking about winning a heisman trophy like it was yesterday and when I saw him on campus in person for the first time, I really thought he had a shot. The kid was built like an NFL back from the day he stepped foot on MSU turf.

After he rushed for nearly 800 yards his soph year while splitting carries with Zo, I don't think there was a college football fan in the country that thought he'd last more than one more year at State before being a first round NFL draft pack. Well, two years later, he gets booed off the field on Senior Day while cussing JWS and then he lands in jail not too long after. It really is sad...

David Fair and Robert Elliot come to mind...

I'll also say Robert Elliott is the biggest bust of all time. Hell there was a book that chronicled his recruitment. But David Fair? Come on dude, I personally know the guy. His knees were gone before his MSU career began. I assure u he wasn't NEAR what he was when he was in h.s. I didn't get to play w/ him but I did play w/ Carl & saw video of David. He was the closest thing to Bo Jackson in football we've EVER had in Starkville. I attest to this day had his knees held up he WOULD'VE been the best damned back MSU's ever had! He would wake up as a Sr @ shs and could barely get around. This is bull-logna right here. I was young, and I didn't hear the hype surrounding him or his recruitment. But Robert Elliott had a flipping espn boom written about his. Check it out, it's called the "Meat Market". But as someone said it's kind of unfair to say either are busts because of injury. I just know the recruitment of Elliott was pretty substantial between us & the Bears.

....he was a stud in 2000. He at least played to his potential for one year.

Sidney never did.

Sidney is the greatest bust of all time. What an honor.

I'll have to check this "Meat Market" book you speak of out. Thanks for the tip!!!11!!!!!1!!<div>
</div><div>You are right David Fair's knee issues are nothing like Robert Elliott's.</div><div>
</div><div>And yea, come on dude hulkbuster knew David Fair! He knew him!</div><div>
</div><div>So yea, David Fair got a raw deal due to injury but he would have been Bo Jackson like for sure if everything in his world had gone perfect. On the other hand ESPN cost Robert Elliott his knees.</div><div>

in my opinion and should have been kicked to the curb before he ever loafed up the court one time.
