I don’t think you people get transfers want minutes. We are only definitely losing 1 guy who played significant minutes all season, and we’re bringing in 2 freshman who will probably play solid minutes next year. With there still being a chance Cliff and Paul come back, we can’t guarantee a lot of minutes to a transfer.

So assuming Paul and Cliff some back you have a rotation of the following:

PG: Simpson
SG: Spencer
SF: Mulcahy
PF: Mag
C: Cliff

Bench:
Hyatt
Gavin
Ndongo
Wolf

Switch maybe Gavin and Mulcahy as the season goes on... Remember Gavin and Ndongo are big time recruits who should be able to come in and contribute right away.

Chol and Davis is your end of bench guys although who knows what you have in Chol.

Where are the glaring holes? Maybe a backup big man (no high quality big man is coming in to sit behind Cliff and Wolf showed dramatic improvement at the end of the season plus you have Ndongo coming in to play the 4). You need another PG who can score and create off the dribble. Outside of this, what are the glaring needs? And I believe we just hosted a PG who can score and create off the dribble.

Need an athletic guard who can score.

Do people realize over 20% of D1 scholarship players have entered the transfer portal? 20%!!!!! People act like there are only a handful of transfers and we are missing out. Only in the last few days have we started to see more decisions being made. You have to realize in the days of NIL guys are going to take their time and so lets not worry here.

Would you like a notarized letter mailed to your house with who we've contacted and/or had visited? My guess is there's a lot going on we don't know about. We didn't hear about Spenser until the day before he visited.
Are you a notary?

If we go out and get a transfer at what point does a guy like Cam Spencer ask to get the same $?

On a total separate note....I am sure there is nothing written against a head coach directly or indirectly offering NIL $.

There are plenty of teams better than us landing transfers. I’m not gonna make my judgement until the off-season is over but the excuse about not being able to offer playing time isn’t valid. Many of the guys in the portal would be our best or second best player. NIL money probably has more to do with it than anything.

It's pretty fluid, this may have changed... from 10/2022
"schools can inform student-athletes about potential NIL opportunities and can work with an NIL service provider to administer a "marketplace" that matches student-athletes with those opportunities. They cannot, however, engage in negotiations on behalf of an NIL entity or a student-athlete to secure specific NIL opportunities. "

And what the written rule is and what is enforced may be totally different.

In theory we get Fernandes and it is known he gets $100K. Cam goes in Pike's office and says i am sorry coach but I thnik I am worth what Fernandes got and I may have to enter the portal.

Is there anything against Pike giving 100K to the collective and earmark it for Cam?

The glaring need is improved scoring.from the returning players plus from the new recruits.A point guard who can make shots off the dribble is a urgent need from the transfer portal.

This is why the “declaring for an evaluation” is a waste of time.
Nothing is changing or new information coming out for Clif/Paul. They have already received their evaluation (it is usually given within 2 weeks).

The sooner they make a decision the sooner the staff can finalize the roster and know what they do/don’t need.

Note - you can get an evaluation without actually declaring. See attached for this years dates.
This is why it’s all a dog and pony show for players.

Per NBA rules, the deadline to apply for the Undergraduate Advisory Committee is April 13, 2023, at 11:59 pm ET. This deadline ensures that all UAC applicants receive written feedback from the NBA reasonably in advance of the NBA Early Entry Deadline. (Note: The NBA will consider late applications on a case-by-case basis. The NBA’s ability to process a late application will depend on the timing of the submission.)

You can see how many possessions that lineup played last season - link below, that lineup played 14 total possessions all season. I'll refrain from further comment - it speaks for itself.

The most interesting thing here is that 15 people are actually responding to another stupid gumpper thread or comment. Lol, 😂 😂
Pretty sure you were one of the guys last year that said we didn't need transfers because our bench players were going to be developed into quality Big 10 starters. How did that work our? You weren't the only one though, there were about 50 that are all silent now.

I'm curious what is your point? What does it matter if that lineup played together last season? Honest question.

If we bring in a bunch of transfers then the lineup would have played together 0 possessions.

My point is that lineup is not good and PIke didn't play them together because he knew they were not good together. That won't be the starting lineup next season - my post was a reply to you suggesting it would be.

I shouldnt play along but I will. This is impossible to answer for the mere fact that you cannot quantify how many guys from non P5 truly can play at this level and be contributors. There were people on here questioning Cam and look what he brought to the table. It really is all about fit and what is being asked of each of the roles that are being filled. There are over 2k players in the portal, how many do you think are P5 caliber players?

I’m guessing cam signed a 2 year NIL deal. Miami went through the same thing last year with Wong after pack signed the huge deal. It turned out ok.

That lineup has further assumptions, that Mag comes back starter ready, Hyatt comes back and true freshman are ready to contribute immediately. If we don't get something in the portal we are looking shaky. I'd feel a lot better with a true point and a 7-foot backup center.

I don’t think he’s sitting on his hands. I think we don’t have big enough bags to get who he wants.
The problem is there’s nothing in his pockets but his hands , he got his extension & there’s no money left to buy the players needed to make a run in the Tournament.

It is no secret that guard play is going to be in high demand in the portal with how the final four played out this year. FAU and Miami were teams that had 5 of their top 6 scorers from the guard position 6'0 to 6'4 and UConn and San Diego St had an healthy mix of guards who can break down the defense and front court scoring. We tried Paul there for a season and if he comes back, I don't think he comes back as a PG, he just doesn't score enough to play the position. We need more than just Derek, Cam and Jamichael for 23-24, need an experienced guy for 1 year only, we will be fine in 24-25.

If Mag isn’t ready who is going to play the 4. Hyatt stinks and the true freshman is unproven. Same thing with the point, it’s Derek and another true freshman. We also need a legit back up big man, or a starting big man, who knows
