1) There was no contingency plan in place.

2) Will they allow teams to schedule their own games? Or must IHSA take control and bend to all eight voices?

3) Hoops and wrestling will have to wait even longer.

This is what happens when people in charge bury their heads in the turf hoping everything will just turn out ok. Zero planning. Zero protectiveness. All reactive. Absolutely no no no no way to run a freaking billion dollar business. The executives and the committee should resign. I mean if you can’t get the broadcast right. And then you can’t prepare for a snowstorm. You should just quit. The feeds and the mics have been atrocious all day. And it’s like that way every year.

Zero Plan but remember this is ISU call not the IHSA. They should have been in discussions saying they may close the campus earlier in the week
But there is a Force majeure clause, for sure ... thus the closure. It would be proactive to have a plan in place should such circumstances come about.

Here’s a thought. Same bat time, same bat place next Saturday. There. Done. Heck you could even run two games each day. But that would screw some people on Friday. So. Run the 4 games next Saturday. I mean. That’s the best way to do it.

That was my first thought as well.

5a at 3pm on a Tuesday!? 6a at 6pm on Tuesday!? This is infinitely more idiotic decision than cancelling the Saturday games because of snow. This is a deplorable fail by the IHSA. It will force parents and family to take a day off of which may not be possible for some. Most parents don't have the luxury of taking a random day off of work. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of the players and to force parents and family members into this predicament is absolutely despicable. If this is the final decision then the directors must resign and pay back their salary. Such an egregious and thoughtless decision. Awful awful awful fail, period end of story, no human is smart enough to convince me otherwise, I am 100% correct, mic drop!

And after reviewing the budget for the IHSA, I would recommend that the IHSA put on a few Steak fry and auctions.

It sucks for ESL. That commute is brutal, and was on the road the last week too.

While very inconvenient, and the IHSA should of had a backup plan in place… I don’t think SF or PC will be hurting with parents/family/friends/students supporting their team, no matter what the time or day. Same for Fenwick.

You said it yourself. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. If so, people will find a way.

Personally, I’d prefer to play Sunday or Fri/Sat the following week if no venue conflicts. Or other mutual agreed site.

Important note - every Catholic school has testing day next Saturday. I imagine that’s a big reason the games can’t wait to next weekend.

I'm not positive but I feel like it’s a rule that IHSA games can’t be played on sundays.

It looks like Bloomington Normal is only forecasted to get 2 inches of snow now. Hindsight is 20/20 but it absolutely could have been played today based on current projections with minimal disruption.

I do think the “fear porn” a lot of weather outlets are putting out these days 100% factored in. You don’t get clicks on the internet forecasting and running models every 3 hours if there is going to be 2 inches of snow…

Thought the same thing regarding Sundays until I looked up the IHSA by-laws. Contests may be played on Sundays.

“They should’ve had a backup plan for a weather event that will make long distance bus travel with kids nerve-racking at best.” Well I don’t know what that plan would’ve been. Even if we had a Lucas Oil Stadium in the middle of the state, a big issue is still getting there… not playing in the snow.

You want to rent TWO stadiums for a backup plan? Fine. It would’ve likely been NIU, right? And they would’ve banged today anyway.

“People should resign.” I personally witnessed an 8-team basketball tournament get cancelled last night, and all the calls and emails and desperation that were involved. And that was just to cancel…. To tell everyone NOT to come…. I can’t imagine trying to find a football stadium with close to a full complement of workers, law enforcement, etc. And then get all of that redirected somewhere else.

Stuff happens. I’m confident the decision-makers are doing their best to come up with a great solution that’s as fair, safe, and manageable as possible to get the games played ASAP.

Does anyone know what the IHSA controls when using a venue. Does the IHSA take total control or do they say you take care of the crowd control? We will take care of the cameras. And on field crowd control?
