4 yr contract, same money...win or your *** is fired...which one do you take?

SC has a better record the last 10 years
SC has only had 1 losing season, Tennessee has had 4 and is working on a 5th
SC has more talent on their roster
SC has much more HS talent than the state of Tennessee
Tennessee has a huge recruiting budget
Tennessee has a better history, winning a NC in 1998
Tennessee has great facilities

Which is the better job right now?

Based on fans alone, I'd choose South Carolina. The expectations at TN are not tempered enough to make me want to deal with their delusions.

Tenn. hands down - but it doesn't matter, cause Dec. 21st will be less than 2 weeks away **

South Carolina. UT fans have ridiculous expectations of winning the East every single year. They wouldn't be satisfied with 9-3 finishes if it meant 4th in the East.

I would take the TN job, because I don't know anything about being a football coach and I'd rather see them go 0-12 every year.

Tennessee, hands down.

UT has the history and Fulmer showed aGAIN what was possible. They were as good as anyone for most of the 80s and 90s and dominant for about a five year stretch. Basically UT-UF in September was a national semi- or quarter-final type game. Loser was all but out of the picture. SC has not gotten to that level and I don't think they ever will. They will never own their own state totally with Clemson down the road, and Florida, FSU and UT make a living there too. SC's probably at their peak right now. I don't see them ever having a run like UT had in the 90s.

Even when they were down, UT has always bounced back. Always. They were dominant in the 30s/40s under Nelyand, then went down a bit. Got good again, then dominant in the late 60s/early 70s under Dickey, then down again for a bit. Majors came in and was good but never able to make them dominant, then Fulmer stabbed him in the back and the program was off and running again. Even when they fired Fulmer in 08, they had won 9 or 10 games in four of the previous six years. Why did they fire him? Because their expectations are higher than that, and their history justifies the expectations.

I guess if you wanted an easier job, you could take USC. If you wanted to compete for SEC and national championships, you would take UT.

I take the job that pays me the best 11 day front-loaded compensation package and is willing to give me the first 11 days off. After that we're all dead anyway. 12-21-12.

Or you could say that once the SEC East got Mark Richt, SC got Spurrier, and Florida hired Meyer and Boom- Tennessee has found it much harder to keep up

I wonder about Tennessee's ability to recruit well enough.....

...to hang with the elite SEC teams with the proximity and ties to much more elite talent. Same with Arkansas. They are similar, with obviously Tennessee being above them, basically superior in every way. But they are both located in states with not much talent, but both have the money to go recruit elsewhere.

Nowadays, it seems like guys can stay closer to home and play big boy football. Florida and Georgia kids that used to go to Tennessee have other options. But there again, with the right guy, they can probably attract the elite talent again, Lane Kiffin showed that much. I mean, Tennessee used to get guys from California under Fulmer all the time.....those guys will stay in the Pac-12 now.

Not many of Tennessee's players can drive home, you know. Are they going to go in and take Virginia kids from Tech nowadays? I doubt it. I just think that sort of 'home' mentality is stronger now than in years past.

This year, USC. UT is an administrative train wreck. Anyone who has worked in an environment with extremely poor leadership despite great resources can appreciate how hard it is to succeed in an environment like that.

I will add that UT is working on it though....

I go with SC because I think Tenn has to recruit nationally to compete. I think it's going to take a big name coach to rebuild that program. SC is kind of centralized when you look at North Carolina, Georgia, and down into Florida. They've got a rich area to recuit.

Plus, all that orange would drive me crazy.
