@bmarcello: New MSU blog post: It's on: Mississippi State will face Oklahoma State in 2013 http://t.co/d8WnK7VP #msstate
I don't like it. I see Stricklin has a different idea on scheduling than Byrne. I like the guaranteed win cupcakes personally but if we do win that game it would be huge for our program.
i guess i'm one of the few MSU fans that doesn't like beating my chest over an extra W when that W comes against alcorn st or whoever. if we need 4 gimme OOC Ws just to get bowl eligible, then we don't deserve a bowl. and i'm not one that's gonna get wrapped up in the prestige of the cotton both v. the chic-fil-a bowl or whatever if we go 8-4 instead of 9-3 due to an L to okie st to start the season. imo you play to win championships, and you win championships by beating teams like okie st, not by sticking with the mentality that you need 4 easy OOC games just to make sure you get bowl eligible.
We're not the ones who will play A&M at home again next year. Bama is. Bama has 4 home division games this year and 2 road games. A&M has 4 road games and 2 home games. Everyone else is 3 and 3. The easiest way to fix this is to just have A&M go to Bama again next year. And that's what the SEC will do. Where are you hearing that Vandy will be our rotating opponent next season? I'm guessing it will probably be either them or Missouri, but that's just a guess.
Why would it be Vandy? Did the change the rotation to playing a team once every 6 years or are we still doing a home and home with the east?
Scott is supposedly holding firm to our scheduling philosophy- seven home games and making sure that we have a managable schedule. If that rumor is true- then Scott is being true to his word as well as getting us into a pre-season bowl game that will net us a good bit of money and exposure. Good move on his part if all of this is true.
it's worth playing this game for recruiting purposes alone. nationally televised in a recruiting hotbed. also, we are currently ranked 19th despite being 5-0 because our non-conference schedule is a joke. we are behind like 7 teams with a loss. yall know who started the year much farther off the radar but is currently a top 10 team? oregon st. why? because they didn't shy away from wisconsin and they beat them. also, i like over 1000 miles from starkville, so i'm happy to make 1 home game a year. i'll probably make a special trip to houston though. i'd never make a trip for jackson st or mtsu or whoever. hell, it's hard for me to watch us pummel a ****** program when there's quality games going on and i'm a lifelong bulldog fan. i can't imagine recruits are intrigued to watch us come out flat against crappy football programs. i see the positives of this game far outweighing the negatives. i'm not concerned abut going to the chic-fil-a bowl v. the cotton bowl, however, i would like an early season marquee W that might launch us high enough to be in contention for an at-large BCS spot.

You keep spouting BCS this and BCS that, but this is the last year of the BCS. And we Play OK St next year. And next year, the 4 teams will be picked by a panel just like college basketball is picked. So you better damn well believe that SOS or perception of SOS will come in to play.
