I've seen 2 different versions of playoff format?

which is right?

Seed all first place teams by RPI and then the rest of teams by RPI's? Only first place teams in a split conference can be considered a champion?

or

Seed 1st place teams by RPI then 2nd place teams by RPI and the rest as Wild Cards by RPI?

or

Qualifying for playoffs
Conferences with 1-5 teams have 1 automatic berth. Conferences with 6+ teams have 2 automatic berths. The highest team in a split conference receives an automatic berth. At large berths are determined by RPI after the others are qualified for the playoffs.

Seeding
1st place teams by RPI and then everyone else by RPI. Automatic qualifier from split conferences only get the 1 seed if they finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd overall in the conference and have a .500 winning percentage or higher
