It is amazing to me that Tim Tebow gets put under a microscope and many people hope for him to fail because he is a devout Christian that lives his life for Christ. Many people do not like him for that. Obviously many people love him for that at the same time, but people including the media are very vocal about not liking Tebow. Now, today a player comes out as gay, and he is glorified for it. He is compared to Jackie Robinson. And when people say that they disagree with his lifestyle, they are scorned for it and called intolerant and ignorant.

So how does a player who is gay get praised by the media, whereas a player who is a Christian get ridiculed by the media? That just shows how messed up our country is. Whether you are a Christian or not, if you think people should be tolerant of Collins lifestyle, do you not also think you should be tolerant of Tebow's? It's a double standard.

If Collins wants to come out, he should be able to. And if he is good at basketball, he should play basketball. I disagree with Collins lifestyle, but I don't hate his for it. His lifestyle should have no effect on his professional career. Same as Tebow. If he's good enough to play, he should play. If not, then he shouldn't. I'm just tired of the media, especially the sports media, trying to increase the acceptance of homosexuality. Sports are an entertainment for me, not a political battleground.

I don't think his faith has anything to do with why he gets **** on. People hate him because he got where he is based on his popularity as a college player and an outspoken Christian rather than merit.

I think it's both. The media does seem to mock those that are "openly" Christian, and I think the observation that Tebow is struggling so badly is icing on the cake for them. I think he could play if he'd be willing to try another position. I don't think he'll ever make it as a pro QB. His college mechanics were better before they tried to remake him. His passes now look like onside kicks.

Am I missing something? Tebow was perhaps the best college qb ever. He took over a broncos team that was 1-4 (4-12 the year before) and led them to division title and playoff win as underdog. Tebow is 9-7 as an nfl starter. That's not too bad. Was he pretty? No. Did he win? Yes

Disagree

It seems to be cool nowadays, particularly in parts of the country other than the South, to ridicule Christians. Personally, I think Tebow should tone it down on the field (there's a time and place for everything), but I really think that's the root of his problems, not that he was popular in college and got where he is because of it. And I really don't think he's been given a chance at the Jets. Crap ... they kept Sanchez in when it was obvious he was terrible.

And about Jason Collins. I really couldn't care less about his homosexuality. I don't think he should be glorified for it though ... it's just a fact of his life that he has to deal with.

He Needs to pray to GOD for a stronger throwing arm! Thats his problem. Plus the

fact he is too prideful yo go to tight end which would be a natural position for him. He is what he is.

Tebow was given a choice between the Jets and Jaguars. He chose the Jets so he got what he asked for

Collins is getting positive attention because he's the first. Most professional athletes are Christians, including Jason Collins, so Tebow isn't special.

If the only reason Tebow were "hated" (he's actually a more liked than his NFL career warrants), half the NFL would be "hated" too.

He's hated bc he actually lives a Christian life not just talk about it

Danny Weurfel was a GREAT college QB, and a very outspoken Christian

yet no one was outraged when he sucked out of the NFL.

And for those arguing he's dogged because of his faith, if he were a damn Hindu no one would be bitching about him being cut. The NFL lauds people like Tony Dungy and Kurt Warner, extra devout people. When people like Bill Polian say he should be playing another position, I'll take their word. The NFL cares about nothing but winning.

His problem isn't Jesus, it's throwing a spiral.

Did Danny or Kurt do an anti-abortion commercial during the Super Bowl? Did get criticized for scheduling to speak at an "anti-gay" church? Tebow is much more outspoken than either.

I'm just going to disagree with your point that most professional athletes are Christians. I don't know them, obviously, but there is a big difference in saying you are a Christian and actually being a Christian. I'm going to agree with Chris Broussard on his points today. You aren't a Christian, if you live in constant rebellion against Christ.

On your second point, I agree that Tebow is very much adored by many. But the media doesn't make it look that way. They mock Tebow because he is a bad quarterback and because he is a Christian. There are plenty of bad players that don't get mocked, so that leads me to believe it is mainly because he is a Christian.

He refused to go into a game and run short yardage plays. He was outspoken about it. You refuse to do what a coach asked you to do, and......you know the answer.

That "church" that Tebow was going to speak it wasn't just an everyday Christian anti-gay... the preacher actually regularly preached that Jews and gays go to Hell, period. I'll give Tebow the benefit of the doubt that he probably didn't realize, since he quickly canceled when it was brought to his attention.

On a tangentially related note, Tebow just screams closeted gay. If he ever came out, all these people who claim to love him would turn their back on him so quickly...

If a church follows the Bible, it will be "anti-gay"

Well said. It shows how screwed up our society is. I don't give a **** what Collins' sexuality is, and neither should anybody else. So the media should quit forcing that crap on us like it's something great.

And I'm all for people doing whatever they feel led to do....but a lot of gay people preach for "fairness", yet they want to make some big announcement to tell everyone they're gay. Guess what, heterosexual people don't make an announcement about their sexuality, and you shouldn't either. If you don't want to be looked at as strange, fine....but don't expect to be looked at like Martin Luther King for your sexual choice either. I just don't get all of the hoopla about it. Do your thing and quit acting like anyone gives a ****. And media, quit making them feel like we all give a **** if they're gay.

So are you saying Collins IS "special"? ********, he's gay. Quit acting like that makes him "special". What does being the first Christian have to do with being "special" anyway? I think Tebow IS special because he uses his platform to glorify his God. Is he perfect? No. And he never claims to be. He just tries to be a good person, a good Christian, and to lead by example in his faith. Yet he is **** on for it.

What has Collins done? Admit he likes guys? Who gives a ****. Why are we even talking about him? If you want to be treated equally, then don't make a spectikal of your sexuality.

People hate Tebow because ESPN na tdhe likes shove him down our throats

And his talent definitely doesn't match the hype. Personally I like Teow, but I could see where people would get tired of constantly hearing about a very mediocre NFL QB

I live in New York. Everyone was pissed about Tebow coming to NYJ because he can't hit the broad side of the barn. Had zero to do with a Jesus. They chronicled Sanchez and Tebow all year and gave Sanchez just as much crap... But from being a tool rather than being a Christian.

They had paparazzi follow Tim around and take pictures of him on dates and everything (Yes, he went on dates with women. ESPN didnt pick it up because it's not a sports issue). Again, wasn't a big deal about him being a Christian.

When he spoke at that church in Texas right after he signed with NY they talked about how "captivating" he was. I don't think there's an anti-Christian agenda going on in news that glorifies the gays. I say that coming from the most liberal media outlet in the world. Maybe you perceive it that way, doesn't mean it's true.

I personally like Tebow as a player. I 17'n hate him off the field. Not because he's a Christian, I AM a Christian.

I think most Americans agree with me on that. Most of Tebow's fans aren't football fans and could care less about football but buy his jersey and talk about how awesome he is. He brings that circus with him to teams, which is why I wouldn't want him on MY team. Obviously that's a huge storyline and ESPN talks about it (albeit too much). Christianity somewhat related? Yes. But that's not why people hate him.

Pick any one. I thought, from your response, that you had some in mind..."no argument here."

Not one in particular. The church does seem to be soft on some sins, but harder on others. I do think the church shouldn't hate the gays, but only the sin of being gay. Jesus reached out to every sinner while having compassion on them all. The church would do well to learn from the One who started it. There sermon over...

He spoke at a church of 17,000 in Texas. He was "captivating."

Churches shouldn't be anti-anything, by the way.

If a respectful gay man started attending your church would you turn him away? I certainly hope not. Not if you're going to accept alcoholics, cheaters, smokers, people who cuss... I could go on forever, baby. Every single person who claims Christianity isn't good enough for hundreds of reasons. That's the point right? Every church is anti-[you name it]. Churches for some reason have singled out homosexuality as the one thing that isn't good enough.

The argument of people abusing marriage for tax purposes? Right. Because two straight men would love to run into people like you every day and say they're married. I met so many people this summer who were (heterosexually) married to gain US citizenship. Marriage is already used as a scam. That ship has sailed, buddy.

No double standard. Jason Collins is admirable because he is a standing up to the oppression of basic human rights. Tim Tebow is disliked by many because, number one, he is the poster boy of an institution that actively oppresses those rights. And secondly, he pontificates any time he gets that chance, and lastly, he's not a good quarterback.

You can try to pretty it up all you want, but that's the bottom line.

And yes, how dare the media attempt to increase the acceptance of basic human rights.

Accept the sinner while not accepting the sin. The church shouldn't turn anyone away. Jesus died for us all. The church shouldn't accept any sin as ok though

How about the government? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you probably support a ban on same sex marriage.
