Tastee is another subway just located in Edison. If you think that is good you haven't tried real subs with real bread . I feel sorry for you .

Agreed. I heard so many great things about Tastee subs when I got to RU and came away so unimpressed after eating one. The bread sucked - I don't get the hype.

If you're talking chains Primos blows away Subway and Jersey Mikes. I did hear good things about Jersey Mikes cheesesteaks though.

Subway is only popular for a few reasons...

It is cheap, their points system for getting free food and they offer a veggie patty which appeals to a lot of people.

I don't get the hype either . Bottom line is the people that like that just do t know any better. Kind of like the guy that thinks Olive Garden is good Italian.

The very idea of North Jersey Mike makes we want to puke. PRIMO HOAGIES 4 LYFE~!
I live in Primos country (Wayne, PA) and although PRimos is the best option here, it does not hold a candle to Jersey Mike's.

Tastee Sub on Plainfield Ave in Edison is the best of the bunch. I simply cannot get enough of that place.

Ahhhh, Greasy Tony's. Extra onions, 10 cents; extra tomato 10 cents; extra grease --- no charge.
no, not Tony's...there was a place on Easton up towards Old Queens on that side of the street in the late 70's. Their specialty was the hot RB and Prov....Mayo, Onions, warm veggies, etc.. since I was on Stone Street it was just a drunkin stumble up there. Or a stop by after going to that GoGo bar near the train Station.

In Jersey there are straight Subs..and then there are those late night '"Trash Cans" ...well before the Fat Sandies... where you mixed with the New Bruns night life to get your late night "fix"

Primos absolutely does NOT blow away Jersey Mike's or Tastee. Not even close. I have to settle for Primos, because it is the closest thing I can find to either JM's or Tastee out here on theMain Line of Philly....but it falls far far short.

And Primos is the most overpriced sub on the planet. PERIOD. 9 dollars for a "Primo" sized italian sub....the exact same sized sub that costs $5.50 at Tastee.

Plus Primos calls it a "Hoagie." Disgraceful.

Tastee is so overrated it's not even funny. To me what makes a hoagie/sub is the roll and their bread sucks. It's soft like a baby's butt.

Jersey Mikes is decent but I would still take Primos over them.

And it's 2015 $9 for a hoagie/sub is about the standard rate. Tastee sucks so I don't care if they're charging $5.50.

If you think Tastees isn't good, then you have simply disqualified yourself from having a say in what a good sub is.
buggsy that is a funny one. I live in Edison so I know tastee and that is not a great sub. It's a sub and it's acceptable if you needed on a sandwich on the run but we are talking about really good subs in NJ . You need to get out more. Maybe take a trip up north jersey .

Troops in Clifton has always been, and will continue to be, the best sub in Jersey.

Sorrentos in Freehold is pretty good.

Jersey Mikes satisfies the craving for a soft bread, oil and vinegar, onion, italian seasoning sub. The "meat" they use scares me, though. lol.

You guys are making me hungry. I grew up in Union County and there were great sub shops in Elizabeth, Cranford, Kenilworth, etc. Been living here in Bergen County for 25 years and still can't find a great one besides Jerry's. Any Bergen guys that can give me some recommendations? The Italian deli's have good bread, but I find it lacking up here.

First jersey Mike's I ever had was in Houston. It was out of this world. Been waiting for them to expand out West for years now being I live in Colorado and travel mostly to the west coast. Chowed down on Jersey Mike's when I visited Pt Pleasant. Never eat subway unless I'm desperate.

Yeah Subway is not very good at all.

They opened a Jimmy Johns on Eisenhower Parkway, not sure which town that is off of 280....they make a pretty good tuna club

Yep, you're right. The place was pointed out to President Obama for being one of the best while he was in NJ a few years ago.....and they had to drive through "North Jersey" to get there......but I need to get out more.

Really funny RUbacker.

Sorry, your taste for subs is simply lacking.

Obama wasn't visiting a Primos when he was in NJ, was he? Nope. It was Tastee's.

Tastee's bread is awesome, and is what makes me love the place....but fine, keep getting ripped off for an average sub at Primos, and i'll pay far less for a far better sandwich. Deal?

Subway has got to be the worst sub chain in America. I have no idea how they got to be so popular.

They are popular in areas that don't know what a good sub is. Where I live, Subway is the only place to get a sub unless you go to an Italian deli. The two things you will have a hard time finding when you get out of the NY Metropolitan area is good subs and good bagels.

Fortunately, a Jersey Mike's is being built right down the street from us along with a Starbucks.

God heard my prayers.

Subway is flat out terrible. Why would anyone ever go there when NJ has so many delis and sub shops.

Id go with Just Subs in Hillsborough and I think they have 4 or 5 other locations throughout Central Jersey
I never understood anyone in Jersey going to a chain for subs or pizza, when you can find a better, local version in just about any strip mall in the State.

Deal. Just because somethings popular doesn't mean it's right.

Tastee is the Notre Dame of subs - always popular but grossly overrated.

Put down the crack pipe, kid. If you're equating Tastee and Subway, than (a) you haven't been to either place or (b) the constant drug use has fried your brain or (c) all of the above.

Tastee is a perfectly okay sub that is considerably better than any Subway which is pure crap. And sure, it's far from the best sub I've had. But there are plenty of local delis that make great subs. And when I feel like it, I can and do make better subs at home.

But if I'm in a hurry and in the area, Tastee is just fine.

Lastly, your comment about how you feel sorry for me because of "real bread" actually made me laugh out loud. Talk about your first world problems.
