You can't be serious. A small school is ideal for a 67 year old ex-Wall Streeter whose fulfilling his lifelong passion of just coaching football. Rebuilding a P5 program and all that's involved with recruiting etc. is out of the realm of reality. Is our self concept so low that we feel this is the best we can get?great chance for you guys to see his coaching style. His team is 9-1 right now.

I've never seen so many people reaching for straws if RU were to hire a 67 yr old to coach they would be stupider than the people on this board
You are probably right. At this point I'd say 99% of the fan base has an issue with FloodThe RU fanbase is so jaded at this point.
I predict that no matter who we hire that half the fanbase will hate the guy immediately after the introductory press conference. And I'm talking about the RU diehards. lol
Hire him and let him get a young talented staff to train his successor
It still doesn't solve the age issue or resulting negative recruiting.
He'll be 67 before the start of next season. I'm guessing that'd eliminate him right there. Can you see him as the long term face of the program? I can't.

This hire is not about getting a Coach that's going to be here for the next 15-20 years.
This hire is about getting Rutgers Football back to a respectable level 7-5/8-4/and 9-3 every now and then. Once the B1G money is coming in 100% then you'll see our new HC either retire or if the right candidate is out there, we will move on and go B1G.
This isn't the hire that we make to win National Championships with, it's the hire to keep us as far away from Indiana, Purdue, and Illinois as possible
Sounds like you are discriminating against Joe Moglia due to his age.
Stick to his qualifications and his ability to improve the RU FB program as HC. College coaches have been very successful at a more advanced age than Joe Moglia.
The easy answer is - it depends on whether we are willing to spend on a real coach or not. He'll be 67 before the start of next season. I'm guessing that'd eliminate him right there. Can you see him as the long term face of the program? I can't.

Still doesn't address the recruiting issue. You have to convince kids you'll be there at least 4-5 years. Just how many P5 coaches are even in their mid 60's or older? Snyder and maybe Saban. Mike Reilly? Who else.
Yeah, it's discrimination. He's a year older than me. Damn old coot.
It's reality.
Name 1 coach who came to a school at that age and had success. Most if not all current older coaches have a history of success at the same school. Saban at Alabama and Snyder at K State are the two most well known examples.
I'm not so sure about Bob Davie....i think he inherited a pretty decent stable of Mike Locksley good recruits he didn't get time to develop....as is usually the case or maybe he's just a better HC than ML....Either way AG seems to be a safer pick in that he knows the area...I don't know what the deal is at the ''U'' lately that no one can win big since they left the old BE...Shalala..who knows..we can't afford to let the talent level dwindle any further and 1 things sure AG can recruit. Or maybe we go in another direction. If no Schiano, perfectly fine with Moglia. If Al Golden is a legit candidate why not Bob Davie? He had a better record at ND then Golden at Miami, turned around a New Mexico team that was 1-11, 1-11 and 1-11, dare say even tougher then the Temple rebuilding job. Experience at Pitt, Arizona, Tulane, ND and Texas A&M. Youths would recognize from ESPN.
Can't hurt...very sensible...maybe JH will get blown away. The guy has 25 years of FB coaching experience. He has coached at Lafayette, Dartmouth and was on Bo Pelini's staff at Nebraska a few years ago. He is 40-11 at Coastal Carolina as HC. He is a CEO type HC and will let his coordinators handle the game planning and game execution. If he hires good coordinators this could work. He could get us through the next 5 years until the B1G money comes in.
He is a born leader and knows how to motivate people and teach them how to be successful in life.
I like him a lot more than a coaching retread like Al Golden. I think we should interview him. Let's see what happens when we talk to him.
A lot of us are afraid of the ''unknown quantity'' he represents i'd guess.I don't know why anyone would not like this guy. He wrote the book on winning football.

That's for the new coach to handle. He's the one selling a vision, not us. I highly doubt he would take the job if he was planning on doing something like Fridge did. I'm sure his contract length would be 5 years always.
Not to mention he should be selling the PROGRAM, not himself
Understandable. I just think he'd be the perfect bridge for us now. He'd readily accept a reasonable 5-year deal, then in 5-to-7 years we can bring in someone who we truly believe can lead us to the promised land. Also, I'm not concerned about his recruiting ability. This guy is a closer. As they say, he can sell ice to an Eskimo.A lot of us are afraid of the ''unknown quantity'' he represents i'd guess.
Do you mean "$Money$"A lot of us are afraid of the ''unknown quantity'' he represents i'd guess.
Has he given significant bucks to CCU? This feels like naming the university after Henry Rutgers in the hopes that he would dump his fortune on us when he died.Do you mean "$Money$"
