Is tampering an issue anymore? It’s an open market. Highest bidders are in great position to land top talent.

Want a contributor from day one. An under classman looking to upgrade or a high level reclassify. There is a shooting guard at Mac Eachern that we have followed who is from Voorhees, NJ. He is a rising senior but do not know if he is eligible or reclassify. Transfered to upgrade level of competition. Moses Hipps 6’ 4”.offered in 2022. Played at Archbishop Carroll in Philly. Main competition is probably Pitt.

I don't understand why any 3 star would want to go to Kentucky where the odds of you being recruited over in every class is basically 100%
Some 3 star players want to tell friends that they were on the roster of a basketball program where getting to the final four is a realistic expectation.

NIL/knowing you can just transfer if it doesn't work out? Hard to blame him from giving it a shot at UK if that's where he ends up. But yes we seem to be a better fit.

Sidenote I checked out the UK rivals board and they are notttt happy with Cal.

Anyone outside of the Top 50 national recruiting circle is considered a loss for a lot of Kentucky fans.

Ironically, this kid might land on Kentucky ahead of some pretty well known kids in the transfer portal. Why Kentucky would tale a kid they're going to recruit over instead of a 1 year rental like Cam Spencer, speaks volumes in my opinion. They must really like this kid or they're luke warm on Spencer. I'd take a flier on this Joey Hunt kid 5 times out of 5 vs a Spencer, he's a 4 year kid and has real good tape/athletic and wiry. I hope he doesn't commit to Kentucky and at least gives RU a look here.

Kentucky has like 7 scholarship players at the moment. He'd get playing time this year and he can always use the free transfer.

Wouldn't bet on too much playing time with 4 five stars plus a 4 star coming in, plus transfers.

If Kentucky hasn't gotten some big impact transfers yet what makes you think they will? Plus if Hart is getting interest from Kentucky, Indiana, and Rutgers it's likely he's better than your average 3 star.

I don't understand Kentucky going after more freshman. They need experience.

They have the #1 class incoming, 5 freshman, a redshirt freshman due to HS injury, a sophomore walk on that saw 8 minutes and 2 sophomores that saw limited action last year and a 5th year Antonio Reeves as their only returning upperclassman.

I mean Lance Ware is a shining example of what the Kentucky brand does for you (undeservedly so). Had P5’s clamoring for him and throwing him NIL despite never averaging more than 2/2 across his three years there

Kentucky has a big time class coming in and they need numbers, RU has made its share of recruiting mistakes , and Indiana has been irrelevant in like forever. Now, if you said he were visiting UCONN, Baylor and Gonzaga I might agree, but watching extended game highlights he looks accurately rated to me. He didn't have many offers originally and his best was Northwestern - sounds about right.

Joey Hart visiting Indiana. Recruiting is tough even if you tamper with a player you might not get him.

https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/rep...get-visit-from-2023-in-state-guard-joey-hart/
I don't think this was a tampering situation. I was told that Hart's dad is having some issues (I think the issues resulted in his dad losing his job among other stuff) so Hart requested a release from his NLI to attend a school closer to home.

In August 2022 I asked someone in Indiana why Hart didn't have bigger offers. I was told "Not overly quick and isn't that good off of the dribble against high major athletes. So really was looking at spot up guy at the P5 level but just didn't have the other parts of his game around that to be a major contributor consistently."

Reclassifying wouldn’t be smart here

Isn't this exactly why Warren decommitted?

We're rapidly becoming a school where lower rated recruits need to think twice because of getting recruited over.

This could definitely become a challenge for us. It’ll be easier long term for teams like UK to recruit bench depth just for the prestige of wearing a blue blood jersey.

The issue Kentucky is having is they've essentially promised all of their incoming freshman that they would play major minutes AND likely start.

So all of their existing roster took the hint and hit the transfer portal, leaving them with just 7 current scholarship kids. One of the 2 holdovers from last year, is still on the fence with staying or leaving as a grad transfer.

If Hart goes to Kentucky, he would potentially be going because it's relatively closer to home and at least for 1 year, he could likely find some minutes and exposure. If he knocks down some 3s, the Kentucky fans will love him, at least for a year before he hits the transfer portal and lands at a Valpo or place like that.

I thought his tape was better than what the scouting reports provided. My guess is he does OK somewhere as well freshman and builds his stock even more. Just being attached to Kentucky in terms of recruiting, does wonders for his popularity.

All of this, plus after watching him shoot, I wouldn't be surprised if that 41% from three number isn't a little inflated.

If Hart goes to the right program (I'm not suggesting that I know which one that would be) and is used to his strengths, he could be effective like Ryan McMahon was at Louisville. Everyone who covers Florida HS basketball, myself included, thought McMahon was too slow and too small to be successful in the ACC. Eric Bossi and I had one conversation about the kid and he wasn't impressed either.

We were all wrong. One day, Dick Vitale stopped sucking up to Coach K long enough to convince Rick Pitino to take the kid. Give him credit, Vitale saw what nobody else saw.

What we all overlooked was McMahon's ability to shoot the ball and that Pitino would figure out how to use the kid.

End result: McMahon redshirted his freshman year (injury) then played in 123 games with 16 starts over four seasons. He averaged 6.2 pts and 1.4 assists. He made 39.8 percent of his shots. Almost all of his shots were threes, he made 39.5 percent of those. He made 40 percent of his threes in two seasons. He never made fewer than 35.3 percent of his threes in any season.

Interesting article in the NY Post about Pitino’s rebuild of St. John’s. When asked what he was looking for in players, he said shooting, shooting and more shooting. If they can’t shoot, I don’t want them. Everything else can be taught, but shooting is hardest to fix.

Give me shooters and a skilled big man.

He played in 2A. Made State Championship game. The 2A HS competition is not great. Had a great senior year, so getting longer looks from the likes of IU, UK and RU after the de commit from UCF.
Lots of varied opinions on this kid. Guess we will see where he lands soon enough.

Both my daughter and son in law are both UK grads and still live in Lexington and this is an understatement. I'll be going out there in a few weeks for a visit.

Down to UK, IU(never offered but visited) and RU. I’d say connect the dotes to Lexington.
Probably, but sounds like Kentucky haven't even offered yet either. He's there today though so maybe Cal does it in person.

Although in this age of NIL maybe he'd be happy going to either as a walk on.

I wonder if RU took a swing at the Kaluma kid from Creighton ?

He's a nice player and would fill a need.
