Former Orr assistant who played hs ball with Kenny Anderson and coached at St Peter's has Marist in MAAC semi with a shot at Merrimack tonight
Agree but sense he’s content where he is.He's be a sneaky head coach pick for a program with good NIL pockets. He's one of the best basketball minds out there, and with NIL dominating recruiting more than the styles needed in the past, he could really excel...even moreso if you get him a couple of assistants to fill any actual recruiting work still done.
He's a very good MAAC-level coach. If you want to succeed in the Big East in this crazy NIL era you can't hire a guy like him.If we were to lose Sha for any reason in the next few years, would it make sense for us to give him a look?
Unless maybe you have a kick *** GM who could be the lead on negotiating with players that the coach targets and takes that off his plate. He's a very good MAAC-level coach. If you want to succeed in the Big East in this crazy NIL era you can't hire a guy like him.
And then when that doesn’t work we can hire an assistant GM. Because the guys in suits always make things betterUnless maybe you have a kick *** GM who could be the lead on negotiating with players that the coach targets and takes that off his plate.
Fair point....but you still need much more money to succeed even with a strong GM....much more money than SHU has historically been able to generate from its giving sources.Unless maybe you have a kick *** GM who could be the lead on negotiating with players that the coach targets and takes that off his plate.
While probably great guy, nothing in his coaching career points to guy who should be head coach at top conference. Other than his few years at SHU, never was at any other P5 conference schools, plus head coaching career at SPU & Marist have been mediocre at best. Think he is in right location, hope he continues to win at Marist.John Dunne is a great guy and knows his basketball but his record at Marist, which has as much resources as any in the MAAC, doesn't say he's a good coach.
