The sixth-ranked Bulldogs (4-1, 2-0 South Division) have sent players to Division I schools across the nation, a list that includes Alabama, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and North Texas.

"It's really nice on Saturdays where you can come home from work, turn on the TV and see your former players," Campbell said. Alabama play-by-play announcer Eli Gold, who recently released a book "From Peanuts to the Pressbox," is impressed with the Bulldog program.

"You'd be silly not to recruit Mississippi Gulf Coast," Gold said. "It's a very fertile JUCO area. You don't want everyone going to Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Cody is a classic example. He's matured physically and a big athlete."

Two Gulf Coast players now start at Mississippi State: linebacker Chris White and kicker Sean Brauchle.

National recruiting analysts have recognized Gulf Coast's amazing stretch of two MACJC state championships and a co-NJCAA national title, all of which came under Campbell.

"Steve has done a tremendous job there at Perk," said Steve Robertson, who covers Mississippi recruiting for Scout.com. "He understands how to recruit as well as anybody, and he makes the most of his out-of-state slots. Probably the best thing about him is that he really cares for those kids.

"They aren't just a means to an end. He sees them as people, and he wants to see them go on and get a degree somewhere. While Gulf Coast has produced a ton of talent, it is not run like a football factory.

Gulf Coast has another talented crop this season. Seven players already have D-I scholarship offers.

The Bulldogs' 6-foot-8 bookends of James Carmon and Wayne Dorsey are ranked No. 1 and 3 on the Sun Herald's Top 10 list of junior college prospects.

Carmon puts Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Penn State atop his list of schools. Dorsey is interested in Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State and South Florida.

"Coming to Gulf Coast was the best thing that happened to me," Carmon said. "They made a man out of me. Coach Campbell is always pushing me to do my best and play harder."

Two Bulldogs have verbally committed to Troy: quarterback Greg Jenkins and wide receiver Brett Moncrief.

Wide receiver Kelvin Boldin (Arkansas State, North Texas), defensive back Dameon Jackson (Ole Miss, Southern Miss, South Florida, Alabama) and running back Vick Ballard (Troy) are the Bulldogs' other top recruits with offers.
