Well, personally, I have tremendous respect for Kaepernick. I'm not black by the way, not that it should matter. I could list many reasons for my admiration, but it would merely turn into a political debate and I've no desire to spark or participate in that type of exercise on this board.

Even if I DIDN'T feel that respect, I try to live my life according to the first four words of Luke 6:37 and Matthew 7:1 -- Thou shall not judge.

But hey, to each his own.

Can I respectfully ask why?

His movement was based on a proven lie. The data is clear, what he claims is happening isn’t. And to wear pig socks?

Sorry just can not fathom respecting any of that. To me, it sounds like soft bigotry. Just respecting it because you want to appear a certain way toward others, and it’s not helping anyone. It’s destroying younger generations of disadvantaged youth.

Again, respectfully.

Brought your attention to what? You already said you don't consider history pre 1964. So by your own words you can't really even consider what CK said because it was about pre 1964. [winking]
Exactly. I had no idea what the hoopla was all about, so I started reading up on it. Found that the 13 original colonies and how they came into existence was pretty awesome. Those same dudes made this other thing called the constitution, which was later used as a tool to end slavery. Man, have I been missing out on all that great history. Thanks for shitting on it, Kap. I would have never known!

Crazy thing is.....my Great Grandpa was an immigrant who came to Ellis Island to start a better life. My ethnicity is often made fun of and stereotyped I’m movies, yet I’ve never found it offensive. Maybe I have just come to expect it?
Maybe I’m not sensitive enough? Maybe I don’t take myself so serious?

Also, I’m in Canada right now fishing. Granted, yesterday was “Canada Day”, but this is my 3rd straight year visiting at different times. My wife noticed how many flags are flying & how much pride they display in their country. I agree.....it’s almost frowned upon to be “proud to be an American”
Same with being white. If a black person says “I’m black and proud to be black” they are applauded. If a white person, especially male, say “I’m white and proud I’m white.” Then they’re bashed and automatically a racist. It’s like people expect whites to be ashamed they’re white. It’s a damn joke.

The OP is an established troll. The purpose of this thread is to try to get Kentucky fans angry at a former Kentucky player. How is that not a bannable offense?
The op is the dumbass that bet the farm on Kentucky and lost on a last second meaningless fg. Funny as hell. It’s ironic how he now only shows up when it’s negative or controversial

Nice come back. You’ve got nothing.

Yes please more billionaire athletes please tell us how to behave. I’m all for the wealthiest among us to scold.

Want another lashing?

Another, maybe you could provide my first "lashing"? Seem to have missed that one. Not sure how you are really going to lash someone on an anonymous message board, but as your post count indicates, this whole message board thing obviously has a very high degree of importance and impact in your life (if you can really even call it a life), so to each their own I guess.

Lol, come back? It was the truth. You know nothing about being elite in anything.

Your mindless drivel trying to act otherwise is entertaining though. So kudos for that I guess.

Also, would love to see your evidence of this "proven lie." I'll be waiting.

It's amusing you call people ignorant, lazy, uneducated and so forth while you did not even have the ability to earn a high school diploma.

Exactly how is the rebel flag Anti American?
Lmao is it really that hard to understand? They broke away from the union and started a war against the United States to become their own sovereign country. Confederacy literally stood for everything that is against American values.

He has to say that. In elite circles you have to conform to the majority. The majority of elite athletes today take up the cause to make themselves feel like they’re still “down with the cause” to regular people. Victimization is their formula for attention and also keeps them from being labeled as exploiters themselves which a lot of them are.

I’m not surprised.
Then elite athletes need to grow a pair and tell the truth. CK is basing his complaints on lies and half truths. It's lazy, its disingenuous and it's offensive. The fact that KAT supports him makes me think less of KAT. If he is supporting him because he "has to", I would think even less of him to the point of disliking him.

Ok one more.

I just love how generation soft bigotry will forgo all logic and data to entertain False ideas and position for the sake of appearing moderate and tolerant.

God, please speed this process up. Let us jump to year 3,000 and maybe by then we’ve moved passed this nonsense.

Until some of you spend time in the inner city trying to unwash disadvantaged youth from thinking their life is pointless because everyone is trying to destroy them, stfu.

Now I’m done.

If you wanna take a knee to the national anthem and shame yourself, that’s your choice.
But as for me and my house we will serve the lord, and stand for the flag. Go ahead and stand on your millions you got from playing a basketball game. Your pedestal is laughable and I don’t see you as an important voice of the American people.
It’s embarrassing, Towns, you just got a free ride to college tuition and open door to the NBA.
You don’t have to stay in this country if it’s so bad.

Most black athletes probably think that

Why bring it like that? Do they have to be black to think that? Sorry doing that cheapens you or anyone else that make those type broad statements inclusive of a group or a race. Do what you want to do...

Regardless of what happened back then, everyone that I know that flys that flag does so out of southern pride. And yes that includes some black people.

You’re probably a yankee so you don’t get it.

That is close to it. I'd sure hate to have to live on the difference.

For 1 there’s nothing to be proud of about what happened. The confederate states broke apart and got their asses kicked. So be it. Also I’m from somerset lmao about as SoKy as it gets. There’s nothing to get about a flag and confederacy that resulted in lives being taken because of idiotic oppressive ignorant southern values.

I’m more disgusted with Nike than anyone. That said, I understand why they cave. It isn’t about bowing down to Kaepernick. They know by allowing him to guide the conversation, they get market share among the people who spend silly amounts of cash, typically cash they don’t have to spend, on all their gear. Kaepernick is a pawn for Nike. The very machine he claims to be fighting. He’s just not smart enough to understand.

Bam. Good post and you’re exactly right.

We pretend these guys are above, but in reality the majority are uneducated adults who rarely cared about school. They’re athletes. I was the same way at one time.

Had someone taken me at that time and paid me 100 million, no telling how screwed up my views would be.

Sorry just can not fathom respecting any of that. To me, it sounds like soft bigotry. Just respecting it because you want to appear a certain way toward others, and it’s not helping anyone. It’s destroying younger generations of disadvantaged youth.

Again, respectfully.

I appreciate the "respectfully" part, although the insinuation that I'm merely saying it to "appear a certain way toward others" seems to fly in the face of respect. But no matter.

Seriously, there's no way to share an alternative opinion without things getting ugly. That's just the way it works on this board. And just the thought of that incessant back-and-forth makes me tired. But I will share a couple things just because it's probably rude not to:

-- The right to protest is protected, of course. But you can't agree with that right while simultaneously telling someone how, when and where to protest. I don't agree with his methods, but I respect that he chose a tough road, and paid for it.
-- Affecting significant social change is always painful. For example, the civil rights movement would not have occurred as soon as it did had it not been forced by the black community partially through violence, vandalism, etc. Sometimes it just has to get ugly. That's been proven for hundreds of years. Kaepernick's approach was ugly, controversial and divisive, but that's fine with me. It got him, and others, on the covers of magazines, on talk shows and everyone talking.

I'll leave it at that. And as far as "the movement was based on a proven lie," I think that's only partially true, but not worth debate.

Regardless of any of that, I enjoy your participation on this board.
