Good question, trumpet. In my view, some reasons I would not recommend Rutgers is it has an administration that considers FB (maybe all sports) an evil; a (hopefully only) small but vocal faculty that is anti FB; a local media that is anti-Rutgers in all aspects of the school (not just sports and FB). A relatively inexperienced and unproven coaching staff (I know we've sent a lot of kids to the pros, but that was under a completely different Coach, AD, Administration).
I would question whether my son would want to be subjected to all the distractions that seem to be constantly present In the Athletic Dept. I'm talking Mulcahy, Pernetti, Hermann, Rice, Hill, Flood, player arrests, etc. I'm sure I'm missing some others.
If you need to play for a NC, RU is probably not for you. It may change in the future, but for now... Everyone wants to play for a winner, but half the football teams are losers. We've been pretty good at winning the last decade, But not @ the level many 4*and 5*s want.
Hey, I believe RU has some serious positives. I've always been proud of the way our athletes (in all sports) sound when giving interviews, speaking, and have had success after their playing careers. Especially compared to so many other schools that really don't give a damn about their student-athletes' education.
I think the facilities (FB) are very good, the smallish fan base is rabid. The FB 'family' atmosphere is wonderful (though I don't really know how it compares to other schools). Academics and support are first rate. While the APR has softened as of late, the story has not been adequately told. It should be shouted from the mountaintops. As an Aggie, I always loved the campuses (sp?).
Look, RU is perfect for some athletes. It's the exact opposite of what others want. There are some kids that RU automatically has a lock on, more others they have no shot at (now). It depends on what they want, and can they be convinced that Rutgers can provide it? Better than another school.
