Kentucky is going to allow high school seniors an extra year of eligibility

Since the NCAA's allowing collegiate players to come back, i personally have no problem with it. My only concern would be Seniors coming back, who didn't touch the field often. Senior coming back because of limited exposure, with potential to play on Saturday, i get it. Senior coming back for just recreational purposes. Keep it moving.
What about the academic side of it? So, really no need to take any classes or to make even a marginal effort. Posters on here often refer to ”snowflakes”. This is the ultimate snowstorm. I know it’s been tremendously difficult on folks for many reasons. But this isn’t the answer.
If athletics and a collegiate future is the issue, junior college or prep school may be the route. This is ludicrous and a great example of the tail wagging the dog.

some college coaches advised they would only bring back all conference or seniors that would start only. Marginal seniors, 5th year Srs, and non contributing seniors would be asked to leave. The coaches reasoning was the SR. at max had one additional year vs. a freshman that may be forced on the bench, or limited for a senior thats not going to be back the next year. Participation always tracks down, this is why youth leagues try to get younger vs. trying to hold onto older players.

This is a great way to discourage underclassmen from playing if they've been working and waiting their turn. Then the senior stays and you still have to sit. And why not give everyone another year then? Redshirt them all. WTH.
I don’t know a lot about Kentucky football. But from looking at their association website, looks like they played a fall season. Appeared to have quite a few games cancelled due to Covid, but apparently had state playoffs and championships in December.

Not a fan of this. It's your four years, time to move onto to bigger, better things. Like ocdavis said, they had playoffs and state title games.
I might would do it for my son if I lived in Kentucky .He is 17 and graduates this year.Want be 18 till September. He had a pretty good ACT score 29. If there could be a way for kids to take college classes to get a jump start on college would be great while repeating their senior year. Then you never know I kid might get a better offer from a College. There still needs to be a age limit.

I’m thinking that, if this passed 36-0, a Kentucky state senator has a kid that didn’t get any playing time.
Well I'm not sure I agree with this law but I wished the NCHSAA would have just allowed a 10 game schedule to be played through May and no playoffs. Having a son that has already had 2 games cancelled and one postponed this week he is now down to 4 games. He is a junior but it sucks really bad for the seniors. They have a few really good seniors that needed some decent film opportunities. At the rate of cancelations they may play 1-2 more games and since they lost 12-7 in a split conference they are probably out of playoffs.
I did hear a different slant on this in the state of Washington that apparently is based on a New Jersey law.
They are allowing juniors and seniors to repeat this year. But their academic slate is wiped clean. If a student chooses to do it, they start this year over as if it didn’t happen. It’s based on the premise that students did very poorly and should be eligible for a redo.
Each school system would decide whether to allow it and the legislature wouldn’t mandate any athletic eligibility. That would be up to their athletic association.
Doing that for academics makes a lot more sense to me than it having to do with athletics. A kid might benefit athletically but would still have to strive academically.

No playoffs? You have all these other sports with playoffs, why get rid of them for just football? Cases are going down and study after study has shown little transmission of the virus from athletics. I hate that for your son though, that stinks.
