If true, then this plus Wilson being demoted but retained are wonderful late Christmas presents. Well done Dan

I understand that the world of college football is very different

than the real world, but in my line of work, you either perform to your job responsibilities or you're let go. Demotions just don't happen because rarely does anything good come from it. Justified or not, it creates resentment, awkwardness, and rarely anything positive.

I understand that the moves on the defensive front seem to make logical sense, but we'll see how things play out... I hope it doesn't hurt us in the long run.

Demotions really make sense in the corporate world though. People are usually promoted up to their level of incompetence, meaning they will get promoted until they no longer do their job well. Then they are let go. Why not demote them back down to the job they did do well?

Maybe he's becoming recruiting coordinator....a different career avenue. He is a successful DL coach so it doesn't make sense to just fire people when they get promoted for success, but don't have the same success with their promotion. Move them around, see if they find their niche. Hopefully that's what's happening here.

Peter Principle. I like your idea. I do hope, however, that my employer continues to allow me to occupy my current position, which is clearly at my level of incompetence.

Yeah, it's idealistic. Not too many people will be interested in doing their job too well after a demotion.

Maybe they are let go because they are overpaid for their reduced responsibilities. Sometimes people don't like the job, but they like the paycheck. Like TD said, it's important to retain people who have time in the system. Its less hassle to reassign them than (to hire and) to train someone new. They just need to be put in a position to succeed.

Unless they are moved to different 'field' like I outlined in the other post. Something they can more easily succeed in and flourish. In college football there's obviously two big fields....scheme and recruiting. I think Wilson has found his niche in recruiting, if he'll go with it.

Ok, lets discuss, the recruiting coord position so many of you seem to think exists....That guy actually doesn't recruit....He's the guy that schedules hotel rooms, weekend visit schedules, etc. and has very little, if any, contact with recruits. I think Rocky Felker currently holds this position. So, please, make sure you understand a title/job responsibilites before you want to give it to a guy.....

I'm sure you can call it whatever the 17 you want to call it to justify more power and a raise, and in turn keep Brewster locked in. Call it the mother17ing Crootin Stud if you want to...just make sure he knows it's a promotion and give him a raise. Some of you take things too "matter of fact" sometimes.

I'm pretty 4sure that Tony Hughes is Recruiting Coordinator and Felker is Director of Player Personnel. And yes, that's exactly what Felker does.

That would be Tony Hughes who does recruit, Felker sets up the visits and appointments and deals with the high schools...please make sure you check your facts before you post idiotic comments

^This^

Not to mention that it can make things extremely awkward and unproductive when a former boss is suddenly just a coworker or possibly even a direct report. I'm not at all saying that it's impossible for it to work, but it's most definitely something that typically sounds better in theory than in actuality.
