Whether or not you are a KF fan or a KF detractor one thing is crystal clear Rutgers needs a change in leadership at the head coach position. Without comment on strategy, coaching, recruiting, retaining current recruits, game day planning, off field issues, the program has reached a point where the only solution is a change in leadership. Also probably require a change in leadership at the Julie H. level as well.

Yeah, Julie should be fired for allowing Pernetti to hire Fludd, lol. Why are people tying themselves into knots trying to tie Fludd failures to Julie's future? It makes no sense to me.
OP why does Flood sucking as coach mean Julie should be fired? Shouldn't the AD get to make at least one head coaching hired for their own?
Julie with her baggage will be an impediment to bringing in a coach with the necessary credibility to change the culture and build a program. Also it may be necessary to either allow the new FB coach to have input to the AD job or in fact be the new AD. The other alternative is make Julie the figurehead with the new FB coach reporting to someone else in the admin. hierarchy
What you just stated is your opinion and you're entitled to that but please don't throw it out there like it's a proven fact.
Hire a FB coach and let him pick the next AD, seriously. Will the next AD oversee football or all sports?

The common denominator in all 3 of your scenarios is to cut Julie out of the picture, that says alot about you're agenda.
Barchi, Herrman and Flood need to go. Rutgers will never challenge for a big10 Championship while any of the three are there,

KJ _RU that's your opinion and you are entitled to it but try and come to grips with the reality of Big time college football. In many programs the football coach does not report to the AD but to someone else in the Administration (not in the athletic department) usually an executive VP. If the HFC is the AD then an Associate AD runs the day to day. Julie Herman is not the answer, she is not a leader amongst her peers in the Big or anywhere else In P5, (I won't even get into her relationship with the media) she is not what RU needs as the face of RU athletics. so it's not about having an agenda it's about neither KF or Julie Herman being capable of the leadership necessary to change the culture of RU football internally or externally.
I don't blame Flood. He applied for the job, got it and here's where we are. Should he go; yes but I don't blame him, I blame the people who have kept him as HC. Flood is a pretty average coach. He's stubborn which has killed the team this year.

Why would an up and coming coach come here if the AD that hires him is potentially on the ropes? Do you believe that Julie is on solid ground when she's not allowed to talk to anybody?

Whether she isn't allowed to talk to anybody, or "chooses not to talk to anybody" anyone that believes that's good and acceptable is living under a rock somewhere. It's not whether she and Kyle Flood are good people or not, it only matters that neither one of them is getting it done, and at this point there is no confidence in either one of them. There needs to be a change in leadership and direction and both Flood or Hermann are at the heart of the problem. If anyone can honestly make the statement that Julie Hermann has improved the image of Rutgers Athletics and has a great relationship with the media and major donors then you are smoking funny weed

I don't hate Julie . She is ineffective due to her own miscues and poor leadership by the Administration and the BOG.

So true. That and she's not Tim Pernetti. What people forget is She's not a politician, she's a college administrator. Quick, without looking it up tell me the name of Ohio State's AD. How about Iowa's? Florida state's? Clemson's? Yeah, that's what I thought.
Her job is not to give public addresses to make fans feel good about things. Her job isn't to comment on athletes and coaches off the field/legal troubles as they happen. She is not the GM of a pro sports team. People need to get their heads out of their asses and realize she's a college administrator.
Everything you said in this post is an unbelievable effort to tie Hermann to Fludd. You imply that if one isn't happy with Fludd then you shouldn't be happy with Hermann...if one believes that Fludd has the program headed in the wrong direction then you should feel the same about Hermann and the rest of the department, (a department that has 3 programs nationally ranked right now). The department was a mess LONG before Hermann was hired, her decision to put her nose to the grindstone and minimize her contact to the press isn't an indictment of her inability to run the program. It says to me that she is focused on doing what it takes to push the athletic department forward as opposed to getting caught up and distracted with all the nonsense that local media and determined haters try to do to distract her.

What AD in our history has done that in their career, let alone in two years? Give her a chance to hire a Fball coach, give her a chance to see her vision of improving the facilities and infrastructure, give her an opportunity to build relationships with donors...she is asking them to donate LARGE sums of money, you think that might take some persuading? She is going to have to make some big decisions soon, judge her on that and not just the fact that you simply just don't like her.
You simply choose to ignore the obvious, I have had a number of conversations with Julie Herman, she is bright, engaging at a one on one level and seems to be genuine. The issue is her effectiveness and leadership and the fact the her relationship with the media is terrible. Currently with all of the problems football and basketball have had over the last three years RU simply cannot tolerate the current lack of leadership from the AD. I won't even deal wit the football mess. You seem bent on making this a personal issue, it's not, I am looking at performance or lack thereof. you can continue to put your head in the sand and accuse everyone of bias but the state of the program and lack of confidence and leadership won't go away until changes are made and we have a dynamic AD who can deal with the media, and major donor in an effective and constructive way. As well as at some point orchestrate the hire of a football coach that can turn around what has become a moribund program.

That's fair but I don't see a lack of leadership on her part, especially in football. As I stated in a previous post, she is not a pro sports GM...she is a college administrator. Whether she's good with the media or not she's not required to give little snippets every time a football player is suspended or thrown off of the team for off the field legal issues. Pernetti was more visible and vocal because that's really all he had going for him as far as an athletic director goes. He spoke well and looked good in a suit, which stands to reason because as recent as 2006 THE MAN WAS A FREAKIN TV/RADIO BROADCASTER. I like the guy and all but he was not a B1G athletic director, I'm sorry. And her silence on Flood when he was suspended speaks volumes. It tells me that if she has any say in the matter he is on the way out the door and rightfully so. I have been told by a few people that the academic side of the house at Rutgers is furious with Flood regarding the Barnwell saga as it has brought great embarrassment to the university and if that is the case, you know he is most likely a goner. If you want to kill her for botching the Flood firing at the end of 2013, that is more than fair, but note she was on the job less than a year and had to already clean up the previous AD's mess in football IN ADDITION TO totally reorging what had been an entirely inept, mom and pop shop athletic department for decades. From what I'm told she was instrumental in getting Ralph Freidgen in here which saved Flood's bacon and more importantly the perception of our program last year that we CAN compete in the B1G. This woman wants to win. She just needs to figure out how to do it with one hand tied behind her back thanks to her predecessor's stellar negotiating with the Big Ten and a president who can give a rats *** about athletics.
I would agree with a number of your points, but the Ad cannot go MIA either, you are the face of the program and need to be cultivating/managing big donors and positively managing and interacting with the media. Your Mom and Pop comment is on the money, and you can't run a multimillion dollar business with a bunch of ex coaches, RU marketing and development is pitiful and is 30 years behind the curve. While I won't pretend to have seen or read the RU/BIG agreement there clearly should have been caveats that would have added to the share if x # of metro TV sets were brought on board and advertising revenues were bolstered in the NY metro area. It seems as though RU was so grateful to enter the BIG that we failed to negotiate reasonable and necessary terms to move the programs forward.
Bingo. Was the B1G really going to rescind the offer and instead make an offer to, lets say UCONN, if we held our ground a little? No, if they wanted UCONN (or Cuse or whomever) they would have just invited those schools from the get-go. And I hear your point about going MIA, but your head coach is the face of the program, not your AD. That's why he should have just been fired when it was revealed he overstepped academic support and reviewed Barnwell's paper for him in addition to the arrests and team rules being broken by Carroo and Laviano. This guy cannot be the face of the program for much longer otherwise we are heading straight back to the dark ages.

The blowouts are again a blemish on Flood's resume. Last year the overall record outweighed those blowout losses, uphill climb to get to that point again.

I said I didn't know what was in the agreement, I simply said what is reasonable and expected to be comprehended by an experienced negotiator in this market space, if the items I mentioned are in there well and good, if they are not then they should have been or other contingencies should have been put in place. If you are aware of specifics be forthcoming if not the you are like everybody else speculating, "you don't know what you don't know"
The one thing I keep hearing some people say is that Julie isn't providing leadership. What does that mean and please be specific...how do you know she isn't providing leadership, how do you know what she is doing on a daily basis to cultivate donors, strengthen programs, build bridges, and push the program forward. To simply say she isn't providing leadership sounds pretty bad without context. The fact is, leadership can be provided in many different ways, just because you don't see it every time you turn on the TV or get on the internet doesn't mean it's not happening. I don't care if Julie plays well with the media or not, what I care about is her building and developing a strong athletic department.
The face of the program is not the AD, depending on the school it's the head football or basketball coach. I guess some of us got used to an athletic department that was mismanaged and run backwards. Pernetti spent alot of time in front of the camera because that's what he knew, but his hiring of Rice and Flood was his true job and he failed miserably. I don't care if Julie is never in front of the camera again as long as she does her actual job, building this department. I'll judge her leadership on what she is actually doing and actual results. IMO, saying that Julie not talking to the media is an example of poor leadership and will lead to failure is a very poor arguement, especially given the fact that our previous AD lived in front of the camera.
Beg to differ with you the AD is the face of the program they are the front person for the program with both the media and the alumni and major donors You keep saying you don't care if she talks to the media, while that is your option to believe that, it is virtually impossible to have a strong positive image and sell the program without talking to the media, not just the press but the electronic media as well. RU & the AD and yes the football coach need to be in front of the media creating a positive image for the program and the high profile sports. That will also do wonders for fund raising as well. RU and RU athletics has real issues with media image and that needs to change if we are to be successful. (a little winning won't hurt either)

oh just stop, are we in any of these media markets? do you know what goes on in media markets across the country, I don't, but I am painfully aware of what is going on and not going on in the largest media market in the country where I live and get both printed and electronic news. Rutgers Sports has an image problem, the AD has an image problem, KF has an image problem, wake up and look around and try not to make arcane arguments that have little or nothing to do with the issue, at this point this has become tedious. so post your final reply I am done.
I respect your opinion I just happen to strongly disagree. It seems your biggest problem with Julie is that she isn't out dueling with the media on a regular basis.You keep saying that Rutgers has a negative perception and Julie isn't doing anything about it. What should she be doing? Simply talking to the media isn't going to change anything. What will change it is building a strong athletic department, hiring the right people, and most importantly winning in multiple sports. It took a long time for the perception of this program to get to where it is, it may not take as long to change that perception but it will take some time...and it will take much more than having an AD play nice with the media, no matter what market we're in.
I hate to keep saying it, but Pernetti was good with the media and our perception got worse durine his tenure du to his poor hiring decisions. We finally have an AD with substance, ability, and vision...I can't understand why some want to run her out of town without giving her a real chance at making a difference.

This change will come in my opinion. But no one really knows who you're going to hire to replace Flood. A while back I remember reading a post from "Southern Gentleman" saying, unless the university as an institution is willing to adopt a winning ideology and invest long term in their football program by hiring and supporting a competent AD, an experienced HC & Co. you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Truer words have not been spoken.
I think it's obvious now that Flood has sealed his own fate at this point. But I don't think Julie H has yet. Her ability to work or not with the NJ media has no bearing on anything, since NOBODY is ever really able to work with any of the media in the NY/NJ market. What IS important with determining Julie's effectiveness to date is how well the fund raising efforts are going in regards to the Master Plan. And unless I've missed it nothing has been released to date to say how much money has been raised. As the AD probably the most important part of her job is fund raising. Until we get a clearer picture on that I don't see how we can truly judge her job performance.

His primary role is concerning the overall university and its absorption of the University of Medicine and Dentistry. He was appointed with almost zero regard to his ability to lead a successful big time athletics department. And that was intentional. The university's primary responsibility is to education and everyone from the BOG to state gov't and the university's own faculty and staff have shown no ability to equate successful athletics with increased success in other facets of the university. Until you get everyone to buy into the idea that success in sports HELPS with overall university success Rutgers will not be investing in a top HC or going on a building spree using loans anytime soon.
