When will these kids learn that these Blue Bloods will recruit over them on a yearly basis?
I saw Ware multiple times and he's very talented, but he really lacks the motor and drive that you would expect out of someone that good. He really tends to drift along during stretches of games and caves in, as soon as something doesn't go his way (a foul isn't called against him OR a foul is called on him).
I am not sure who's going to take a flier on him AND he's likely going to be looking for a duffle bag on top of it. His stock is way down, maybe his price tag is lower now too, but my guess is, he already has a destination lined up, if he's entering the portal now. I can't see Pike taking a flier on him here, but I have been wrong plenty of times.
If anyone could possibly tap into this kids motor and potential, they could have something there. He probably needs a new voice from a new coach, that is more player friendly and can coach him up, in a positive way. Pike is a magician in a lot of ways, this would be one, I'm not even sure he could pull off.

Avg 2 point over 3 years. His duffel bag won’t be that big lol. Prob reiber sized stretched over remaining eligibility

Well if this kid really wants to make something of his bball career, his lack of PT at Kentucky should be a wake up call. Not everyone has that dog in them though which might be the case here

A coach shouldn't have to do cartwheels to convince a kid to fight rather than quit.
He has tools, but the talent doesn't come close to the production he should have. I think when you also have a bunch if highly ranked kids piled together like Duke, Kentucky and sometimes UNC most years, kids can get lost when they see the classmates moving faster and having great success and they're not......then, they start to press and think they have to make a play or score as soon as they get the ball, instead of making the right pass or play.
This kid needs minutes and to knock the rust off. Could he get that in a rugged B1G lineup of opponents, if he didn't get it done in the similar SEC?? Is he willing to battle for minutes or is he looking to lock in 25 to 28 minutes at a mid major, where he's off the radar, at a FIU or place where they don't have all the bells and whistles, the weight room isn't a palace and he's forced to grind it out??
When you watch Dylan Harper, Gavin Griffiths and Ace Bailey on tape, sure, they may have off nights where they don't hit shots, but it doesn't impact their game. They grab rebounds or do other things. Ware needs to be sold on getting every single rebound that hits the glass and becoming a menace on defense, before worrying about shooting or scoring. If he can be sold on defense 1st, I'm all in. Will his circle or people allow him to be coached that way, is the question. Kid has NBA size and skill set, he needs to buy-in, 100%.

He would actually be quite good in the Big 10, he is a physical guy, will bang down low and rebound. They like him a lot down in Kentucky and don’t want him to leave, but understand he wants more minutes. Unfortunately he got stuck behind Oscar Tshiebwe, who has been a total beast in college and plays almost 34 minutes a game.
Last season showed we certainly could need a depth piece with some talent. I’d take him
The talent level at Kentucky versus RU is night and day. I realize that their record doesn't reflect well upon their talent level - but that's a different issue. He was playing behind Oscar Tshiebwe, the 2022 national player of the year, so the 8-10 minutes per game he was playing makes his 2.2 ppl statistically irrelevant. He was a backup to a star and played just to give the starters a rest.
An 8th or 9th man on Kentucky would start @ RU. I can guarantee that if we picked him up he would be a starter from day 1.

I always assumed Cal was a player friendly coach but not sure. Kentucky has the luxury of not waiting for kids to develop or for the motor to turn on, just reload.
He's friendly to the players who produce immediately.
I think of Cal and Pitino like Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader - most of what they were isn't there anymore.
Both were great player development coaches.
To Pitino’s credit he’s still devoted to player development. Even at Iona he had separate 45 min morning practices, apart from the regular afternoon team practices, just devoted to skill development. I believe he ran these 3-4 days a week.
Good for him, getting back to his roots. Pitino going to Iona was really cool.

No idea but from what I read he’s always been a believer in player development. As you said, I do agree some of the veteran coaches when they get a run of success, and 5 stars, probably start to lose that focus.
