I think we know from experience, do we not, that when we hear, "It is not about the money ..." then the unassailable conclusion is that it is about the money.
Yeah, it's easy to say that, but if you're making $8M and LSU offers you $15M what are you going to do? Plus, there's plenty of hot co-eds at both LSU and Florida.I think we know from experience, do we not, that when we hear, "It is not about the money ..." then the unassailable conclusion is that it is about the money.
Saw the rest of the quote earlier. Lane says Sexten tells him to shut up, we need to get this and we need to get that. Lane says I don't care. Sexton says "well I do."Live look in on Sexton:

I would even go as far as to predict that in a very weird twist of fate, Kiffin is about the become the highest paid head coach in college football. At least temporarily... Kinda strange for a guy that doesn't care about moneyI think we know from experience, do we not, that when we hear, "It is not about the money ..." then the unassailable conclusion is that it is about the money.
Honestly if Lane or any coach is smart it won’t be about the money. Any of these jobs will pay an insane amount of money. How you fit at the school & how it fits with you are more important. It’s not about money because there will be 3-4 comparable offers on the table and in this atmosphere a couple hundred thousand either way isn’t very big of difference.
The answer is patdog. He will be heartbroken that he has left Ole Miss.Who will be more disappointed - MSU fans if he stays or OM fans if he goes?
I want y'all to go house poor keeping Jimmy Sexton happy and have no money left to compete the way you have on the NIL side. That way we get ornery passive aggressive Lane - my favorite version of Kiffin.Who will be more disappointed - MSU fans if he stays or OM fans if he goes?
He is great entertainment. I hope he leaves. But I don't even have a clue what will happenThe answer is patdog. He will be heartbroken that he has left Ole Miss.
If he doesn't leave, I question his sanity. OM is not a destination job like you think it is.Who will be more disappointed - MSU fans if he stays or OM fans if he goes?
Depends on what you want. You're not going to win a national championship there, or even a conference championship. But it's a pretty good job. Most coaches would like to win a national championship though. If he doesn't leave, I question his sanity. OM is not a destination job like you think it is.
Haha. Kinda like when we hear "I'm not racist, but..."I think we know from experience, do we not, that when we hear, "It is not about the money ..." then the unassailable conclusion is that it is about the money.
I suspect you are right, but you can get to the playoffs. If you get to the tournament anything can happen. If he doesn't leave, I question his sanity. OM is not a destination job like you think it is.
He won't. It's gonna get harder with the 9-game schedule. And he's not even in the playoffs this year. One loss (looking unlikely) and he's probably out. Won't be more than 4 SEC teams max, and right now UM is #4, barely ahead of #5 Vandy. One bad loss and they could easily be out.He makes the playoffs on a regular basis (and he will),

If LSU wants Kiffin and Kiffin wants to go to LSU, Mississippi being in the playoffs won't stop it. That's two very big ifs. We don't really have any idea where he stands on UF, LSU and PSU lists or how interested he may be in any of them. It's all speculation at this point. The timing of the LSU job is not optimal. They're going to want to get someone onboard soon. UM is very likely going to make the playoffs. He won't have time to work the portal as long as UM is in the playoffs unless he quits before seasons end and I don't see that happening either, especially after the way he cried like a little ***** because they didn't make it last year. Plus, when you have as much money as these guys have, well a couple of million more isn't a whole heck'uva lot to them. I mean, how much more money do you really need at that point. It's not like Lane came from a poor family to begin with. I think he stays.
I think this is what people honestly mean. As long as it's "reasonably close", they're not just going to make a decision based on the money, with what counts as "reasonably close" probably mostly being an absolute measure of money at the low end of the salary scale, before becoming more about a percentage difference, before being dominated by absolute amounts again as you get into crazy high salaries. It’s not about money because there will be 3-4 comparable offers on the table and in this atmosphere a couple hundred thousand either way isn’t very big of difference.
I think you are overestimating the appeal of spending a decade at a place where you can't win a championship. That's just not how these guys are wired. If he wants it easy, he can retire right now. I would bet that if you ask most coaches if they would rather make $100M over ten years, or make $60M over 6 but have a chance at winning a championship, they are taking the shot at the championship. At OM - he is super large and very much in charge and will be for as long as he wishes. He does not have to win an NC to own Oxford.
People in Oxford don't mind his 'grab your popcorn' antics and 4th and long inside your own 20 decisions. He is helping them win the PARTY!
He makes the playoffs on a regular basis (and he will), the fanbase will be happy. The only time they may get agitated is if State advances a round further than they do. That's a long way off - if ever. OM will never ever do better than Lane - They will find a way to pay him what they have to to keep him.
If Lane ended up in UF, LSU, Bama, Texas, etc., he's in a world of high expectations and hurt. He don't need that.

I actually think that's the only thing that might keep Kiffin at UM this year. There isn't really a great team out there that I can tell (unless it's OSU), so Kiffin may actually think he has a chance at winning a championship this year. IF that's the case, hard to abandon his team in the playoffs, but I would assume LSU and UF may not be willing to wait for him to finish. If LSU wants Kiffin and Kiffin wants to go to LSU, Mississippi being in the playoffs won't stop it. They'll end the season with no wins over a ranked team. That team isn't getting close to a national championship.I actually think that's the only thing that might keep Kiffin at UM this year. More than anything else, Kiffin wants to win. He isnt going anywhere until the playoff scenario is no longer a thing. He thinks he can win a title and it's just not logical to leave a place competing for a title so that you can go someplace to compete for a title. If LSU wants Kiffin and Kiffin wants to go to LSU, Mississippi being in the playoffs won't stop it. Who can they not beat? I didn't see them play UGA, but they seemed at least competitive watching the score? Was there somethign in that game like Ole Miss being +4 in TO margin or something that would make you think they can't upset them? I would assume Bama is in roughly the same shape. Maybe they should beat UM but doesn't seem obvoius. They'll end the season with no wins over a ranked team. That team isn't getting close to a national championship.
I'd be over it in about 1 minute if he does announce he's staying. Won't change a damn thing for our football team, unfortunately. I imagine and hope that it would take y'all a lot longer than that to recover. No offense**Who will be more disappointed - MSU fans if he stays or OM fans if he goes?
That's a very optimistic way to look at it, which I understand from the OM point of view.More than anything else, Kiffin wants to win. I say he stays where he is until the Alabama job opens and it probably won't be that far off.At OM - he is super large and very much in charge and will be for as long as he wishes. He does not have to win an NC to own Oxford.
