You would have thought them losing Simmons and started a D2 transfer would have made them miss a beat but they dominated Arkansas offensively. Trinidad and Tobago actually looked better than Simmons to me. We aren't sure how good Arkansas's defense is but Kiffin can dial up some offense.

I think the likelihood of their achieving the highest level of success with Kiffin is dubious. But that MFer will have them in the conversation every year he’s there. And it sucks donkey balls to think about. He needs to move on ….. quickly.
What he’s done in 5+ seasons is easily the highest level of sustained success in Mississippi since the late 50’s-early 60s. Yes. That MF needs to move on.

Saturday night was some high freaking level coaching by LK. In saying that they have mastered the portal, spent top 5-10 money in the portal, spent top 5-10 money on LK and PG, and will still probably go 8-4. Overall they aren't getting a lot of bang for their buck. Reminds me of the OM girls I took out in college except it was the opposite. A LOT of BANG for the buck.

I don't know if he's a QB whisperer or the system sets them up for success. Whatever it is, he's good at it.

17 OM for hiring him.
I think he is just good at implementing plays that are simple enough for QBs to execute well but still effective? Matt Corral seemed damn near special needs and he was effective. Granted he had a lot of talent so maybe it was just good coaching and a talented enough QB. Alternatively he just has a great eye for talent because Chambliss wasn't wanted by anybody out of DII to my knowledge. Or I guess alternatively Arkansas defense is just horrendous, but hard to tell based on prior competition.

I disagree. If you are spending $9M on the HC (#11 top paid) and $2.15M on your DC (#4 top paid DC) a fan base should expect top 10 results. I assume they have a top 10 NIL budget. I don't know.

I'll compare that to BOC who is now the second highest paid HC in college baseball. He will need to host most years and make it to OMAHA "most of the time" to be worth what we are paying him.

Lastly, I hear you. OM has truly left us in the dust in a lot of ways since LK arrived. Maybe it's worth the overpaid salaries. The thing about LK is that he has completely turned his life around off the field. He would have been fired if he had not been in media friendly Oxford his first 2 years there.

If you look at the box score, Arkansas outplayed them, and the turnover was the difference. And obviously home field. I'm not nearly as high on them as so many others.

They might lose to Tulane. Trap game between Arkansas and LSU. And Tulane is good.

I'd say they're getting what they are paying for. Just like MSU, they will have to overpay for certain things. I don't know what they are spending on NIL and how sustainable it is, but if it's sustainable, then they are doing great for what they are doing. Any year they are still in the playoff discussion in the last couple of weeks of the season is successful for them. With the expanded playoffs, they will need to make it some.

I don't know if they're particularly good this year. Beating but not dominating UK and Arkansas probably doesn't spell a typical playoff team. But they have LSU, UGA, and OU as the only games really of note. UF, USCe, and MSU are all presumably going to be within spitting distance of UK and Arkansas, so plenty of places to misstep, but if they win those and go 9-3, that might get them in the playoffs this year. Or probably better for them, knock off one of those three so they have at least one good win and then have a misstep against somebody else.

He went 9-3 with the best roster and the easiest imaginable schedule last season. One of those 9 wins was against GA. That they won their hardest game and still missed CFP is inexcusable.

Kiffin is Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde.

What's also inexcusable is running an already hurt QB1 out onto the field only to make his injury worse.

We'll see how good Arky's D is throughout the season.

Dude can really get a loaded team right up to the gates of the promised land playoffs. But can't ever get a ticket in due to losing games they have no business losing. Super awesome until the pressure hits.

Agree. He is apparently very good at recruiting the type of players that fit his system and puts them in position to be successful.
And he’s kept his nose clean, too. I didn’t expect that. I figured he’d have been up some some of his usual shenanigans by now, but nope.

He's better than Vaught, Tyler, Bellard, Jackie, Billy Brewer, Tubberville, and Mullen. I hate it, but it's just the reality. He knows how to put it together, and I would not doubt the possibility of him making a deep run at some point.

I marked out all the stuff that doesn’t matter. And he went 10-3.

We can debate what Kiffin’s ceiling is there (I personally believe they’ve pretty much already hit it). But what’s undeniable is that he’s raised their floor a great deal. He has never had a full regular season record worse than 8-4.

Probably the only thing that worries me

He’s good enough to keep them good but not good enough to move on

Are they?

again I’d switch places with their last 5 years but they’ve spent a lot of money and had a super easy schedule the entire time and haven’t over achieved by any means.

id argue they have underachieved based on expectations.

IM NOT SAYING THEY ARENT OR HAVENT BEEN GOOD!!!

Kiffin has coached himself to several losses in games that he should have won. Maybe he has turned the corner on the high risk stuff this year. We'll see.

Hell yes they are. 10 wins is worth it. Every time. Their “underachieving” season last year is equal to our best season in the last 84 years. Whatever it cost, it was worth it. I wish we could “underachieve” and “not get our moneys worth” like them. It pitiful to keep denying the truth.

We would have been in the playoff in 2014 if it was 12 teams. Possibly 8.

no one is denying anything as much as you are blowing it up

It’s hard to play the schedule game with OM last year because they were all over the place. Literally lost to 4-8 Kentucky at home and also smoked Georgia and South Carolina.

If Elijah Moore doesn’t fake pee in our end zone, Kiffin was on the verge of taking the Arkansas job.
