Tonight their's was better. IF we were healthy it would have been a toss up.Not by much, not by much.

They will and he will likely tell us his reasoning. Second guessing is easy. Calling plays isn't..Shotgun zone read plays also spreads the defense out and can influence the creation of running lanes. Can't wait to hear his explanation if someone in the media will ask him about it. Winking

I remember the reverse to Westy. I'm talking about the RB's on outside zone and running boot off of that action. The last 2 I saw were for negative yards. One was a reverse to Westerkamp. The other I don't remember who got the ball. Their backers did a great job of filling because our O line couldn't get to the 2nd level to stop pursuit. Wisconsin's DEs were very good.
We have a QB but he was getting pressure all night long. Pretty damned tough to call a good game or play one when you're O line isn't giving the QB much time. I'm sure there would be some things Lansdorf AND TA wish they could do over. You numnuts riding Langsdorf all year need to wake the hell up and figure out Nebraska doesn't have a quarterback. When your qbs mechanics are so pitiful he falls down trying to throw the ball it kind of handcuffs you in what your trying to do.

Probably but we don't know if those were the origninal play calls or audibles. At least I don't. Maybe TA had the option to pull it and run it. Actually he has that option on any play. Eric Crouch did it all the time. TA had the ball in his hands and he gave it up. HUGE pressure situation and we folded.1st and 2nd down in overtime? Winking

No argument on that. Of course TA had several short passes batted down and we had a short field. I would have liked to see a play action pass but heck if it didn't work then everybody would be screamin RUN THE BALL.Pressure neutralizer= screens
The one called went for a first down
Had nothing to do with the offensive scheme. Has everything to do with a feel for the game. Crouch said he OFTEN he would come to the LOS, see the play call sucked and didn't have enough time to audible so he would just improvise. Remember all those QB draws everybody screamed about. That often wasn't the play call. He would just improvise without audibling.I don't believe for one second he had the option to run it...those were straight handoffs to the running back based on the run blocking.
Eric Crouch was running a totally different offensive system than what TA runs...Can't compare the two in this case.

I do not believe Tommy has that much freedom in this offensive scheme. He also wasn't in offensive formations on first and second down that would lend him to just go running around.
- He has the ball in his hands and had the option to audible at the LOS which might have been why we ran it up the middle. We don't know. I've seen Brett Favre take off on a naked boot with his entire offense blocking a run play to other side of the field. Running up the gut late in the game worked for us in earlier games this year and their DE's were killing us with outside pressure.
I see your point, it will be interesting to see what DL does when he gets his statute QB in the years to come that can't run as well. Every play should have a counter to it but it seems he doesn't set anything up off another play to run counter. I know DL is still learning how to be a OC but you have to stick with what's working or at least come back to it sometime during the game.Correct, it's a neutralizer but not when the opposing linebackers are as disciplined and good as Wisconsin. A good screen game is most successful when you're having success in other aspects. And we weren't.
It sure did, wouldn't of minded to see something else called (deep ball) off that same set.
My personal opinion, Langs is in a very tough situation & sitting 7-1 instead of 5-3/6-2, has more to do with him instead of the other way of thinking.

No doubt. Hopefully our O line is healthier and maybe a little more physically talented next year.It is scary to think how many sacks Nebraska will have with a less mobile quarterback and with our current offensive line.

You're overvaluing a "dual threat" that really isn't a "dual threat". A "statue QB" doesn't need to run well, just enough at the right time. Along with many other aspects, such as; reading defenses pre-snap, looking off targets, progressiions, stepping up in the pocket, knowing when to throw the ball away, knowing when to dump, etc, etc.
Huskers fans are enamored with average QB play, just because they can run. It's a big reason why we've struggled as a program for so long.
I told you that I was screaming for an option. I also told you that we don't know what the play call in the huddle was for sure. We don't know if there was an audible or the option for an audible or what. DL has to BEFORE the defense sets, try to figure out what their tendencies are and what they are likely to do in that situation. SO you call the play you THINK will work against what you THINK they will show you. The QB HAS to get you in to the right play or if he can't he needs to call time out. Obviously either TA audibled to those plays OR thought the original play call was right for what he saw from the defense at the LOS....of course that's assuming that TA read the defense and didn't just go up there and say hike. Blindly saying we're gonna run X play because the other sh## didn't work is kind of silly.Dinglefritz...inside runs weren't working in THIS game in tight formations under center. Spread the defense out and give the running back more options to find a lane inside or outside the tackles. You are an avid and knowledgeable Husker fan to know this would have given us a better chance to gain yards.

And there you have it....on the other hand the defense's job is to confuse the QB and even NFL QBs make mistakes and TA didn't have a pocket to step up in to tonight. You're overvaluing a "dual threat" that really isn't a "dual threat". A Zac Taylor type has this team 8-0, in the top 5.

Not really I understand your point. I'm just saying know what you have and put them in the best situation to succeed. There's a lot TA doesn't do well and I wouldn't even call TA a great runner. He left a lot of yards out there as well. What I'm saying is if DL is reluctant to run with a running QB how to you think he'll be with one less capable? You're overvaluing a "dual threat" that really isn't a "dual threat". I actually agree to an extent with your premise it's just that I don't have enough information to judge the calls. The TV angle didn't show the defensive set and I sure as hell don't know what their defensive play call was. I also don't know for sure if the play run was called in the huddle or at the LOS. Hell the original play call could have been a middle screen or a play action pass and the middle runs were run audibles because of what TA saw from the defense. I dunno. The good news is that our OC will explain it and do it in a manner appropriate for family viewing. I like DL and I think given what he has had to work with this year he has done a pretty darned good job. He didn't cost us this game.We are going to agree to disagree on this one.

It appears that way but appearances are often wrong. I'll reserve judgement until I know more. We had our chances. TA had a guy open on the left side for 6 when he threw the long ball but he didn't have time to nor did he attempt to come off of the fade route. They're college kids doing the best they can and taking a physical and mental beating. Love the effort and man we could do a BUNCH worse for an OC. Tom spoiled us.I agree with many of your thoughts. Langsdorf did not cost us the game but in my opinion he sure didn't help in overtime.

And.....Damon is coaching where? I like Damon Benning but sometimes he suffers from premature gesticulation. It appears that way but appearances are often wrong. we'd be 8-0 with zac taylor? no, zac taylor would be deceased.
I've just heard Damon too many times days later have to walk back something he said because "he watched the film again" and decided maybe he was wrong.Just having fun with you.

Zac Taylor took way too many horrible hits that nowadays would have him on the sidelines without his helmet....the guy was a warrior. His talent was getting through his reads quickly and getting rid of the ball. He would be very good in Riley's offense. That's funny, I'll give you that.
The '05 line was just as bad as the current line is. Difference is, there's better playmakers on the outside this year compared to then.
Yes. Great post. Suicidal play calling.OT playcalling on first and 2nd down was horrendous. 2 runs up the middle by the tailback that basically didn't work all night? Put Tommy in the shotgun and give him a zone read playcall if you are going to run it. At least he or the running back could have gained 6 yards or so and made 3rd/4th down easier to convert. Langsdorf basically gave away the first two plays in over time!!!
