I'm not sure this has been brought up but this year marked the 20th Anniversary of Salem's first football State Championship (Just Salem.. Not Andrew Lewis). 8 out of the last 20 State Championships is just not something I thought I would ever see. Hell it just seems like yesterday that Salem and Coach White finally got over the hump vs Sherando at Roanokes old Victory Stadium. Man how time has flown!!
Maybe one of my fellow Salemites can help me out with something.... What is Salem's overall record over this 20 year period? What other in state schools have experienced similar success over this period of time or even another 20 year period throughout history?

Hampton and Phoebus come to mind but don't know the numbers over a particular twenty year period.

Only school that comes to mind is Hampton which from 1975-1998, a span of 24 years won 11 state titles and I gotta believe had a record matching that of Salem. It does not happen often that you have teams with these kind of runs. Just consider the fact that since 1998 Hampton has only one the state title one other time.

Can't leave out Phoebus who won 7 in an 11 year span with a pretty remarkable record of their own. Hampton probably would have more titles if Phoebus hadn't emerged as a power.

1996-2016. 21 seasons
230-41. (10.9-1.9 avg)
Coach White 80-20. 8 seasons
Coach Mags 150-21. 13 seasons
13 final fours
9 State Championship games
8 State Championships

Hampton and Phoebus had similar or better numbers. Will try to research it

Same as every year in the end. Last year was last year.

So NFL like. Just build a program with good kids and character. That's the purpose of an athletic program. People keep forgetting it's about the kids.

Ok I completely agree. Although I'm not quite sure if this is in response to my original post because I never stated anything that would merit this type of response.

Powell Valley won 8 state championships between 1982 and 1998. Hampton won their first 8 playoff state championships from 1975-1995 and Salem has 8 from 1996-2016. So, Powell Valley got the most in the least amount of time.

Overall, in the playoff era, these teams have the most VHSL state championships:

Hampton 12
Powell Valley 8
Salem 8
Phoebus 7
Appalachia 6

Three teams have five titles, nine teams have four titles, 13 teams have three titles, 26 teams have two titles, and 50 teams have one title.

Good information and state championships won at any level should be valued and celebrated. One other thing to keep in mind in the case of Phoebus(and to a lesser extent Hampton) is they won those championships playing up in classification. Phoebus' ADM numbers as seen with the recent R&R would have put them in a much lower classification and it was their choice to play up.
