what did this guy say ( i've never heard of the show )

He laughed at a tweet that some radio personality tweeted. It was a picture of the Royal couple holding a baby (baboon or small monkey) just outside the hospital. Crude said something to the effect that that was his new favorite disc jockey. It was funny.

For those outside Lexington, can someone summarize?

The link doesn't reference the incident.

If that was all that happened that's a pretty damn lame excuse to fire the man. Reprimand him, yes! Suspend him, maybe. Fire him, Hell no!!

Yeah go back and watch it....suspension ok, but firing is insane. And my wife is black and my daughter mixed. And Im in Lee's corner. He meant no ill will, just trying to be funny about the wrong subject.

The part I don't understand is the timing. It was a pretty dumb thing to say. But if they were firing him why not do it immediately or the next day? Instead they waited way past the point of anyone caring, then fired him.

Just poorly handled all the way around.

It’s unfortunate that society can’t or won’t accept sincere apologies for dumb mistakes anymore. Hate when people lose their jobs over one bad moment.

What ticks me off is mistakes people made 30 years ago or so and those comments come back to haunt you. I'm sure there are things I said back when I was young and dumb that would have gotten me in trouble had I ever become a public future. Having written that this wasn't 30 years ago. It was a week ago. I personally don't think it was meant as racist, I accepted his apology, move on. Society though is what it is and the parent company made the call to fire him. We don't know what else is in his personnel file. The company could have stood by him especially in this state which is a lot more tolerance of the fine line between PC crap and common decency. So my view is if the company decided to fire him that's their call. Time to move on. JMO

I don’t disagree that it’s their call. He’s their employee, if they don’t like what he said, their right to fire him. However, just because it’s their call doesn’t mean that they made the right one. That’s circular logic.

WLEX does have new owners (Scripps), so I'd imagine that plays a major part in all of this, by the way. It's not right, but it could have come from much higher up.

I'm boycotting spelling bees.

Of course...I'm not saying it's the right call or wrong call, just that it's their call. I've fired people before for things that were detrimental to the company and that was my call. My feeling is if the Company fired him then so be it. This isn't New York or California, this is Kentucky where most of us think PC stuff is silly. So I have to think there is more to this.... who knows?? We probably never know.

Fair enough. If there is more in his personnel file, can’t argue there. But if this was solely based on a reaction to this incident, crappy outcome.

They didn't wait until after the point of anyone caring. They did it, after what i can only assume, was due to tne outcry by the new, and mostly uninformed, "mob mentality PC" section of society.

Damn.

I thought a suspension was enough and it could’ve been something like 3 days. And I’m not a fan of his at all.

I'd boycott, but KYT and TVQ are so trash, I'd never watch any news at all.
Barely watch news, but WKYT is the OG. May be boring as hell, but Sam Dick looks like he'd help you shovel your driveway in the winter. Kevin Christopher looks like he'd volunteer to give your wife tennis lessons at the club.

Too much snake oil flowing over at 18 for my taste. Plus, Bill Bryant sounds like Foghorn Leghorn and that's just cool

I agree with you. He made a sincere apology. Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor though. I feel bad for him if he has a clean personnel file. I'm glad I'm not a public figure......man am I glad ;)
