and bring back Hank Flick.

Having some type of student group would be nice, but if the BSU runs it, it will suck. I grew up Baptist too, so don't think I'm just bashing theBSU.

students?

Two of the most frequent suggestions were to move the students back down low and to bring back Flick. A lot of people are saying the atmosphere is going to be primarily driven by the students first. Will Flick matter to them? Do they actually have nostalgic memories of Flick that would get them fired up because he is announcing or is it because the new guy isn't very good?

I also wonder how much effect it would have too. I just can't see a student telling one of his buddies who was not at the game when Flick came back the following week "Hey man, you have got to come to the game tonight. We have our old announcer back!!!"

He says **** on the PA that you scream back with. Like players nicknames - everyone would finish it for him. He made the games fun.

I don't understand why they interrupt whatever music is playing to blow out the gym with rap for five seconds. And it's not because I don't like rap, it just makes no sense. It is supposed to get people back into the game I guess, but it actually has the opposite affect. More pep band, less music through loudspeakers.

Have the announcer make it fun rather than all of these cams that seem to be annoying. I think grasshopper could easily get that implemented this season.

the main reason for reseating the HUMP years ago were that people had tickets for cheap down low and never showed up and the same complaining going on now was about the locals who were grandfathered in...
I think money was the main reason, but this is definitely a point that is being overlooked. There is some revisionist history going on here. There was a huge problem before reseating with the season ticket holders not showing up and not making their tickets available for others. The only problem reseating has caused as far as atmosphere is what it did to the student section in the process.

My argument against your points:<div>
</div><div>1) Basketball players have a much greater identity than football players. You can't help but notice the personality of basketball players and I think this, at the very least, subconsciouslyinfluences your response.</div><div>2) Our ******** basketball players have been our stars in recent years. Football players with questionable attitudes usually don't receive much playing time.</div><div>3) I don't think we've had any shitheads on our football team in the last 3 years. If we have, casual fans didn't know about it.</div>

The problem with this is that weALREADY HAVE these type of guys. Moultrie busts his *** and is probably the best player we have had sinceRoberts. Steeleis becoming a crowd favorite. Hood is Hood. Fans love it when Lewis does well. Bost may havebeen a bit of a head case over the years but I have never questioned hiseffort ordesire to win.

The problem is with us, the fan. We need to get over this type of thinking, support the team we have, and quit making excuses.

I think that Moultrie is lovable (although he loses fan points as a transfer--he kind of quit on his old team), as are Steele, Hood, and Lewis.<div>
</div><div>I have questioned Bost's effort many times and have been told by former players that he has quit on the team before and will not listen to the coaches. Also, he's served two suspensions, I believe. Our coach is certainly not lovable, nor is Sidney.</div><div>
</div><div>But, I agree, things are getting better. I'm not sure what fans are making excuses, as you say. This is not an excuse, this is a valid argument. Hell, two years ago we had fans throwing cups on the floor, last year we had a fight in Hawaii, and we've lost many many players to transfers. On the scale of lovability (Artest to Durant), I'd put us at Andrew Bynum. </div><div>
</div><div>I don't feel the urge to care as I once had for MSU basketball.</div>

According to my source at MSU, the students asked for the seats they are in.Now..there may be more to it than that. Maybe they asked for the seats they are now in because they did not have the choice to sit where they were previously...I don't know. </p>

There's not really anything more Moultrie or Hood could do, and nobody outside of Sidney or Bost have ever to my knowledge done anything to make them unlikeable. I think it just takes time for people to get re-invested. That said, I agree it's not an excuse, and if I didn't need a plane ticket to go to the games, I hope I'd go and would still be as loud as ever. But I am just not nearly as excited about this team as I have been for similar teams in the past, and this is the only reason I can think of as to why it'd be that way, and I can understand if some of the people close enough to drive to games have the same issue.

I'd like to throw out there that the music playlist for the games could really use some updating... I realize some of the songs are generally typical good basketball game songs, but I feel like we have been using the exact same playlist since the early 90s. <div>
</div><div>Also, I would like to say I agree with most of what has been mentioned above, as well. </div>

I agree with everything here except maybe the BSU and athletes comment. Not sure where that conception has come from, I'm not sure these kids are part of anything except maybe the anime club.

Most students don't really remember Flick... but I think having him back would definitely help. The current PA leaves something to be desired. Getting Mullen out there before a game would FIRE up everyone! Football players/recruits have there own designated seats in the dead middle of the student section... so having them there doesn't help. They have earned there seating arrangements so I am not complaining about that. BUT please get rid of the Rowdies seating privileges! Getting there early doesn't give you any benefits cause they already have the first set of rows blocked off.

The Student Association picked these seats as opposed to being split off. Seating us court side would be a great thing but honestly I don't think we deserve it until we learn how to get off our asses and cheer. This team is really hard to root for but the positive stories ( Moultrie, Hood, Steele ) are starting to outweight the negatives ones.

Props about mentioning the dance team should upset the old ladies every once in a while! We need ANYTHING to create a spark in the Hump!

Seriously, when I was in school there from 2003-2008 we had a great crowd, and a lot of it had to do with whiskey.

Originally - the students had a 1/2 side of the court and a part behind the goal. Then the Ath Dept moved the students to two different sections on opposite ends of the Hump. The SA asked to be put all on the same end of the arena which makes more sense to me.

1st: (and most important) Put the students back where students belong. This will solve the majority of the problems. Back when the students where right behind the bench, in the action along the side of the court, the bottom level stood for 90% of the game. Now, shoved into the corner... Well, the last game I was at, I was sitting somewhere like 8th row, and the guy in front of me turned around TWICE to apologize for standing- because the guy in front of him was standing (because the guy in front of him was standing) and there were only like a dozen of us standing up in the entire section. This was the bottom section. The students are just too far away from the action, and that kills the atmosphere.

2nd: I miss Flick. I don't know if most of the other students feel that way, but the new guy is not made for college basketball announcing. Hell, Flick is the inspiration for my 17ing sixpack username. That dude had it. Bring him back for bball.

3rd: The new branded MSU athletics (Under Ninja/Grasshopper) had tried to milk every last second of downtime to get fans attention for one thing or another. To a degree, I like it, but it may have gone too far. Halftime, anything goes. But if a key timeout in an exciting game is extended to a media timeout, I don't want to see the chocolate unicorn. In fact, I never want to see the chocolate unicorn ever again.

4th: The music has not always been that loud, and bad. We don't need to blast rap or country through the speakers, especially that loud, even pregame. Play the typical lyric-less club/pump-up music, and do it at reasonable volumes. If the music gets drowned out by the fans, that's a good thing.

Besides Flick being brought back, the constant promotions don't allow the crowd to do anything during timeouts. During our last media timeout Wednesday night, when the crowd should have been at its loudest, the band was overshadowed by dude running around with the mic getting rid of T-shirts. Atmosphere killer.</p>

Sidney has made a commitment to be a part of our family. We should cheer not only for him to have a great basketball career but also for him to have a great overall MSU experience and an excellent career following his time with us. He's made mistakes, but you talk like someone who never forgives Are you some kind of preacher? Your horse is too damn high regardless. Get off it; you're making me sick with your ******** piety and overbearing judgment of others. What a fan. Cheer for BYU or something.

don't have reserved seating for ANYONE. Show up early for the best seats. Show up late and you sit in the rafters. Make the entire Hump an open seating policy with strict security to ensure no bullying. Secondly do fun things at the game to get the crowd more involved.

2. Take the Mic-Guy and throw him in Eckies Pond. That guy sucks beyond belief and is getting worse. Turn the mic duties over to the cheerleaders. It is their job to help get the crowd pumped up. Have them go up in the stands and lead cheers or something.
Get rid of the mic guy big time, but not in Eckie's Pond. I don't want to remember his legacy every time I see Eckie's Pond. The cheerleaders don't work either everyone just gives them dumbfounded looks.

According to my source at MSU, the students asked for the seats they are in.Now..there may be more to it than that. Maybe they asked for the seats they are now in because they did not have the choice to sit where they were previously...I don't know. </p>
First of all we were asked if we wanted the student section back together. We said yes. Instead of giving back our old seats we were placed behind the goal in the worst seats in the Hump. We got gyped big time. Move us back get us in the game don't push us in the broom closet. We are attending the school. It feels like we are being traded for money. <div>
</div><div>Second, as everyone says everywhere, the mic man needs to go. He isembarrassing. He is missing a huge attribute of actually being charismatic. He is not in any way. </div><div>
</div><div>Third, attitude. I am a Junior in Computer Engineering and I am not able to give 5 hours out of my day to go early to the basketball games so I will be put in the rafters every game and will have to watch the Kentucky game on TV(sigh). Point is I am stuck up there and the past few games my friends and I have beenharassed, literally harassed, for standing up during a basketball game. I have been dog cussed, made fun of, even called a wierdo for standing at a sporting event. One group harassed me for the whole first half then left during half time to go to a bar and watch the game in a more appropriate setting. This is piss poor. These people are the norm. I hate it and it makes me sick, but these are the people who attend our games. Those who don't have a love for State and didn't know anything about it before they came here. This is a byproduct ofenrollmentincreasing by 2000 students since my Freshman year. Our students are watered down and have an attitude of apathy which is sickening.</div><div>
</div><div>Fourth, the Rowdies are gone. Everything that they were is extinct. I've been up front cheering with them in years past and trust me the guys that are up there now know nothing. They need to be swept under the carpet and let things developnaturally, otherwise you get the dog crap that is the Dawg Pound. I know most of the five guys from on campus experiences and they have no charisma. There is nothing wrong with the Candy Man leave him be.</div><div>
</div><div>Fifth, the band is the key. No one likes the mic man. No one cares about the Cheerleaders. No one acknowledges the Dawg Pound. Stop nutt cutting the band. Let them play. Let them get involved. Mississippi state has good cheers, but none are utilized as much as they could be due to the copious amounts of advertisements and bull that goes on during the timeouts. Also when they get more playing time they need to learn new songs. This is where you bring the atmosphere. Nowhere else can you bring instant improvement like this. </div><div>
</div><div>That's my two cents believe it or not. I just am giving educated guesses off of personal experience.

</div>

I think you correct this by when you move students back to the middle, say first come, first serve. I think you really make a push with students to get involved, not with a special group though. Just as students. Make a push with the greeks, but don't allow them to save blocks of seats or you end up pushing out people again like you did with blocking seats off for the rowdies.
Pass out pom poms, serve pizza for those students there camping out 4 hours early, etc. Maybe encourage the football players to go to games, or other athletes, and then show them up the screen. Let students realize, this is the place to be.
This is it to me. I satmidcourt on the front rowfrom 2003-2008 and we had some of the best seats in the house. My crew would hang out there, and there were otherregulars in the maroon seats at midcourt (between the stairs), next to the players tunnel, under the goal - there were several different cliques and we all had front row seats, or at least in the gray seats down there.

Splitting the students up - you basically have two options if you want the good seats now. You're sitting with the "Dawg Pound" and the guy in the referee shirt, or you're sitting with the Candyman on the other side of the goal. If you don't mesh with either of those groups of people, you are forced tosit up higher in the stands (see the Hood's Hoodlums crew) and not be as involved.

Give more than 8 people a front row seat. And give them some of the best seats in the house. Then there'll be a reason for people to show up early and wait for the gates to open. And that was half the fun - hanging outside with your friends in anticipation of the game.
