I like the side of the bracket that Starmount is likely to land on, simply so the Rams could possibly be matched against some different competition such as Bishop, Mitchell. There could end up being a rematch with the friends in Sparta?
I think Starmount has the easiest path to the West Finals in my opinion based on what I see in the bracket. Murphy has CSD and Corvian, two unknowns and a very good East Wilkes team.
Bishop is an unknown at least to me. Starmount is familiar with South Stanly and Alleghany

Murphy may have gotten the #1 seed but Starmount at #2 has a much easier path to the western finals
Alleghany and starmount side much easier...east Wilkes got corvian then Murphy...brutal
That CSD and Swain match-up in the second round will be interesting
If I’m Murphy I’m happy everybody has to come to them though. I think the Dogs come out of the west.
For sure! I know there’s been talk of a good bit of talent on Corvian but they have a young QB. Going to be hard for a young QB to go in there and win.
If you simulate the west playoffs on HSRatings (formerly Calpreps) it has East Wilkes coming out of the West with a 17-15 win over Starmount in the western finals.
Honestly this wouldn't surprise me too much. There is a HUGE debate going on in the community right now of who the conference champion is. Some have even tried to get the teams to line up next Friday night because of the bye to see once and for all who the better team is

Even though they have a 9 and 1 record i think Alleghany has the easiest third Rd appt in Bishop.
I could see EW coming out of the west if they stay focused.
As for conference champ, it's Starmount. They both are 6-1, with Starmount winning the head to head. If West Wilkes was also 6-1 in the conference, then it would be a three way tie.

I dont have facebook but i have seen screenshots and heard the chatter about this. I think its completely insane if this ever was to happen. Theres simply no sense in risking an injury over a meaningless game. In all actuality, conference championship means nothing. However, Starmount and East Wilkes do indeed have a identical conference record, with Starmount having the head to head over us, resulting in Starmount being conference champs. I guess with us beating Alleghany by 32 (without their star QB) and West Wilkes by 18, and Starmount losing to West Wilkes and escaping Sparta with a 1 pt OT victory, makes some of the fans wonder if EW is actually better than Starmount. Either way, until we meet again Starmount is the better team and will be the 2025 Conference champs.Honestly this wouldn't surprise me too much. Unfortunately for us we do have a hard road to get to the finals in Corvian and then Murphy. I do think we are playing our best football all year, but lets not overlook anyone. One game at a time.
Do you know much about Bishop? I've been curious about them. Didn't you mention that you knew something about South Stanly this year previously? I wonder how they are this year
What makes it even crazier is the ones calling for a rematch next Friday played at Starmount and have kids at East Wilkes lol.
Doesn't suprise me. Heck I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch myself, but not in the same idea they have. Probably the worst game EW played all year maybe even Starmount too. On EW side Penalties was absolutely ridiculous.
Don't know much about either....just what I've seen on maxpreps. South Stanly has won some very close games that I don't think should have been close and lost early this year to a bad Parkwood team somehow. They gave starmount a decent half of a game last year. Will be interesting to see a rematch this season but starmount is definitely better. South has some good athletes and majority are seniors. I know bishop beat South Davidson Friday but I think there record is very misleading considering how easy there schedule was.
Just out of curiosity, what is the furthest EW has ever made it in the playoffs? I can't remember a time where they were as good as they have been the last 2 years.
It's just going to depend on Swain's health. If either or both of #6 (RB/CB) and #16 (QB/S) are out I think it could be an uphill climb for Swain against CSOD.
I’ve said it before and I will stand by it, the only team in 2a that Murphy needs to worry about this year, assuming the Dogs are healthy and playing well, is Tarboro. Nobody in that west bracket is coming to Murphy and winning if the Dogs play to their potential. But, sometimes unexpected things happen. That’s why they play the game.

Murphy can't overlook anyone though. Their side of the bracket is the toughest. I do think they'll be in the regional finals if they play like I know they can.
Lost last year in the 3rd round to Mtn Heritage.
Not sure without getting on maxpreps about others but I know 2015 lost in the 3rd round to Mitchell. Probably the best team East has fielded since that year
I feel like they were decent in the mid 90's with a big QB. I think he might have played D2. Can't remember if the rest of the team was good, though. Early 2000s they were REEEALLY bad. It is good that they are competitive now.
I agree. Anything can happen. Can’t take anything for granted, especially in a one game and done situation.
I think it was the late 90's early 2000's when Luke Samples was the QB. He was a heck of an athlete. He went on to play at Catawba and set records there. I'm not sure if he worked out for NFL teams but I do know that they wanted him to. He just hung his cleats up and was done.
What about #50? He got one of the worst chop blocks I've seen in high school on his knee against Murphy. He ok to play?
No clue, but you weren't actually asking were you? I hate the kid got hurt, but looked like it was a missed down block on #56 and #50 got taken out in the process.
Of course if we're going to throw around accusations I'd add that Swain was going at #71 of Murphy's knees all night and eventually took him out of the game in the 4th Q.

It didn't look like a missed block to me. At all.
I was just wondering if the kid was ok. He was holding that knee and rolling around in obvious pain.
I’ve heard that some swain fans have been accusing Murphy of playing dirty since Friday night, even going so far as to accuse the Murphy coaches of teaching kids to play that way. We know that is complete BS. Don’t take the bait. Just a few sore losers crying because they got stomped.

Eat Wilkes will be physical and have speed up front and skill positions. I think 3 in backfield won state in track last spring. Playing at Murphy on cold Nov night will be tough!
