North Edgecombe was the 16 seed in 1998. They beat the #1 Seed Camden County in the East (6-0) took over home field advantage. NE got healthy towards the end of the season, had to win the last 2 regular season games to get into playoffs. They went to lose to Starmount 22-20 in the State Championship game that year. For all the historians, what's the lowest seed to ever make it to a state championship, regional, etc.
North Edgecombe. 16th and final seed, defeated #1 on the road. Back then, if a 16 beat a 1, the 16 stole home field advantage the rest of the way. So the 16th seeded NE had all these better seeded teams come to them, and defeated each one all the way to the 1A championship, where they eventually lost. For all the historians, what's the lowest seed to ever make it to a state championship, regional, etc.
Guess I should have read this before I typed virtually the same exact thing lol.North Edgecombe was the 16 seed in 1998. Being that Hayesville is from the rugged and battle tested Smoky Mountain Conference they will fair pretty well. I’m sure they will be disciplined and nothing EW will do will surprise them. EW im sure will not overlook them.. but these bye weeks provide time for athletes to heal but also give teams that have good rhythm a chance to get a lil off beat and possibly lackadaisical when comes to resuming game time again. How does Hayesville match up against EW? Well assuming they beat HT.
If EW is a true contender, they will have no problem beating Hayesville. I believe they are.Being that Hayesville is from the rugged and battle tested Smoky Mountain Conference they will fair pretty well. Like Otis said this game should be a running clock game if East Wilkes is a true contender and I think they are and I believe it will be.Being that Hayesville is from the rugged and battle tested Smoky Mountain Conference they will fair pretty well.
