Bayside's first possession begins at their own 17 after a holding penalty on the kickoff return. It's a toss to the left to junior running back Kyron Brown, gaining 8. On 2nd & 2, it's a nice stop from Qwayon Cleveland, mammoth sophomore d-end with lots of potential for the Stallions. It's no gain for Brown. However, on 3rd & 2, it's QB Kam Kirby with a keeper, gaining 10 yards to move the chains.

Kirby's first pass of the night is incomplete. An encroachment on Green Run brings up 2nd & 5 from their own 41. A solid gain on a QB keeper by Kirby for 18 yards, plus a 15-yard personal foul penalty on the Stallions moves Bayside to the 26-yard line of the opposition. An illegal forward pass penalty on Bayside does not discourage them. They get a completion from Kirby to WR Breon Hardnett for 12, then it's Brown rushing for 7 on 3rd & 3 to move the sticks.

Nice opening drive for the Marlins into the red zone of Green Run. Now can they finish it off with points, preferably a touchdown?

Consecutive incomplete passes by Kam Kirby, missing Breon Hardnett in the corner of the end zone for what would've been a touchdown. Then on 3rd & 11, it's Kyron Brown open in the flat, but the pass was off the mark.

Coach Jon White is bringing out kicker Henry Stinson for a 30-yard field goal try. It's blocked by sophomore Qwayvon Cleveland.

Green Run takes over at their own 30 with 7:13 to go in the opening period. After a 2-yard run with ODU commit Charles Jackson, the future Monarch busts off a 45-yard run down to the Bayside 25. The Marlins defense definitely has its work cut out for them tonight trying to contain him.

Bayside's defense is starting to bring some pressure and QB Luke Ashcraft throws back-to-back incomplete passes, nearly getting picked on 3rd & 14 with Marquis Miles deflecting his toss. Both Miles and LB Isaiah Newton dropped Jackson for a loss of four on first down.

The Stallions leave the offense on the field for 4th & 14 from the 29, and why not? The way Bayside is aligned defensively, they could get a big play with Xavier Clark or Zaevion Cleveland if Ashcraft is able to put it on the money.

It looked like Luke Ashcraft might be a bit late on the throw, but he Xavier Clark is able to get separation from his defender and pay it off with the game's first touchdown.

Clark has been bothered by injuries the past few weeks, but got off to a hot start to the season.

Breon Hardnett returns the ensuing kickoff to Bayside's 39 with 5:22 left in the opening period. The Marlins look committed to the run game in the early going here with rushes of +6 by RB Kyron Brown and +3 by QB Kam Kirby. On 3rd & 1, it's Kirby fumbling the ball on the handoff exchange to Brown, resulting in a loss of two.

Appears the Marlins are punting it away on 4th & 3 from their own 46. Fans in the stands are saying to 'watch the fake.' Well, the Green Run sideline didn't get the memo. Kirby runs for 9 yards to the Green Run 45 to move the sticks. The Stallions might've just given the visitors some momentum.

Heck of a deep ball throw by Kam Kirby to a wide open Breon Hardnett. That extra point possibly halts the momentum that Bayside builtfrom the fake punt conversion and TD, though.

Green Run's Xavier Clarks returns the ensuing kickoff 15 yards to their own 20. Charles Jackson runs outside for a gain of 4. Good open field tackle by Kyron Brown. Then Luke Ashcraft finds Clark for a 5-yard completion to bring up 3rd & 1. Jackson breaks out of multiple tackles for a 32-yard run.

Following a penalty on the Stallions, Ashcraft puts another pass on the button in double coverage to Devin Miller, hauling it in for 36 yads down to the Bayside 1.

Green Run has out-gained Bayside 164-116 through one period of play.

Senior LB Hector Ortiz, back in the lineup for Bayside after dealing with an injury, keeps Charles Jackson from scoring on 1st & Goal. Following a false start penalty on Green Run, the Marlins don't help themselves with a penalty that moves it half the distance to the goal from the 6 to the 3. That's where Jackson finishes off the drive.

Bayside has to be very worried about its defense right now being able to stop Green Run, which has gotten chunk plays both with the passing game and ground attack. They've had four separate plays of 25+ yards - two through the air and two on the run - to set up their scores.

Are the Marlins talented enough offensively to keep pace? Actually, yes. They're averaging over 42 points per game. Howver, at some point, a miscue can make things go sideways in a hurry.

Bayside takes the ensuing kickoff to their own 29 with 11:09 left in the second quarter.

Kyron Brown gets a 10-yard run to move the chains for Bayside. Following a 5-yard run from Brown, it's an incomplete pass as Breon Hardnett is unable to haul in the short toss from QB Kam Kirby. Suddenly, an important 3rd & 5 for the Marlins from their own 44.

Sophomore RB Ja'Shawn Franklin runs for a gain of 11 to move the chains. On Bayside's next 3rd & 12 after a holding penalty on the Marlins, it's Kirby scrambling for 16 yards.

With 6:48 to go in the second quarter, Green Run uses a time-out. Coach Brandon Williams and d-coordinator Terrell Whitehead want to get the defense settled down.

Kyron Brown rushes for nine yards. Quarterback Kam Kirby finds Kyron Brown for a short completion of 4 to move the sticks. Kirby then runs for five yards and gets held to a short gain of one.

On 3rd & 4, it's Kirby getting dropped for a loss of six by sophomore Junious Clay. Decision time for Jon White and the Marlins. Wonder what the discussion is right now with him and his offensive play-callers - Todd Buttermore and Jaquan Glover - before this 4th & 10 from the Green Run 19 with 4:40 to go in the half.

Gutsy scalls and tremendous execution from Bayside. Not just the TD pass by Kam Kirby to Breon Hardnett, but also on the 2-point conversion play to J'Lahni Spears. After an unsportsmanlike / celebration penalty, then to get the 2-point play to junior J'Lahni Spears on a similar throw was even more stunning.

Sophomore Chadney Cross - who had the big punt return for a TD that tied the game up in the second half against Salem two weeks ago - returns the ensuing kickoff 19 yards to midfield. Green Run has plenty of time to re-claim the lead though before intermission hits.

Bayside's defense is doing a better job against the run and Charles Jackson. The Stallions get faced with a 3rd & 7 and despite a low snap from the center, senior QB Luke Ashcraft is able to scramble away from trouble and gain 9 yards down to the Marins 38. Following a tackle for loss on Jackson, it's a 20-yard completion to Lake Taylor transfer Dannuel Maye Jr. that gets them down to the 10 with the addition of a Bayside penalty.

Inside the red zone though, the Marlins defense with Brown making a tackle for loss and Breon Hardnett deflecting a pass in the corner of the end zone step forward. Ashcraft's pass is incomplete on 3rd & Goal from the 11, bringing out the kicker.

That might be viewed as a win/win for each side. Bayside was able to keep Green Run from scoring a touchdown, but the Stallions did break the tie AND they get the ball first in the second half.

The Marlins try to get cute on the ensuing kickoff with a handoff, but they end up getting dropped at their own 12 by Green Run's Joshua Stallings with 59.4 seconds left on the first half clock. Tight end Kamari Eubanks gets a 21-yard catch from QB Kam Kirby, but it's wiped away due to a holding penalty. That backs Bayside up to their own 6.

To me, the wise move would be to run the clock out and go to the break only down three. A safety or turnover here would be killer.

Green Run wastes no time once they get the ball to begin the third quarter. Starting at their own 35, it's tailback Charles Jackson busting off a 40-yard run. On the very next play, he's pretty much untouched to the end zone for six.

The Stallions get that breathing room they badly needed.

Bayside sees a completion on 2nd & 8 to TE Kamari Eubanks wiped away because of a holding. They get stuck with a 2nd & 18 from their own 7. A short completion to Kyron Brown only gains five yards, and then on 3rd & 13 it's that lanky sophomore edge rusher Qwayvon Cleveland stopping Kam Kirby for no gain.

This might be getting away from the Marlins here.

As mentioned earlier, Chadney Cross had the key punt return touchdown that tied things up against Salem two weeks ago and now it's Devin Miller's turn to find the end zone on special teams. It's actually the second big play of the night for Miller, who earlier hauled in a 36-yard pass from QB Luke Ashcraft.

Now, the Marlins are forced to go away from the running game a bit, so this will complicate matters for them now that the deficit has grown to 17.

Faced with 3rd & 8 from their own 35, the Marlins see QB Kam Kirby finds RB Kyron Brown out of the backfield for one of their better chunk plays of the night. It's a gain of 29 to the Stallions 36. Junior DB Tayron Whitehead saved it from being an even longer gain.

Kirby is sacked by Green Run sophomore DE Junious Clay. Before the game, one of the Green Run assistants was raving to be about Clay's versatility and mentality as a defender, capable of lining up at several different spots.

A pass interference on Green Run's brings up 3rd & 7 for the Marlins from the Stallions 33. Kam Kirby fumbles on a scramble, but is able to recover the loose ball. Howver, the bad part for the Marlins is he's holding his foot / ankle and has to be helped off the field with 5:51 to go in the third period. Even though it brings up a fresh set of downs at the 19, the Bayside players and coaches are hoping their field general is OK moving forward.

With Kam Kirby going down, it means that starting linebacker and junior Isaiah Newton gets thrust into duty at quarterback.

After handing it off to Kyron Brown for three yards, Newton scrambles ahead for about six or seven, but it's brought back on a holding penalty. Flushed out to his left, he ends up finding Brown for an 11-yard completion on the next play.

Senior WR Seven Washington makes a terrific adjustment for the catch on the pass from Newton on 3rd & 6 to gain nine yards and put them inside the Green Run 10. The Marlins burn their first time-out of the half with 3:10 to go in the third period.

Kam Kirby has returned from injury for Bayside at QB, but immediately following it's a false start penalty on the Marlins. There ends up being penalties on each side before an incomplete pass on 3rd & Goal from the Green Run 5 with 32.5 seconds to go in the third quarter.

This right here is essentially the game for Bayside if they have any hope of making a majestic comback.

Junior DB Tayron Whitehead intercepts a pass in the end zone for the host Stallions to halt a Bayside drive that took up more than 67% of the period.

Charles Jackson then concludes the third quarter with a 21-yard run, giving him 176 yards rushing on 14 attempts.

Green Run tries to get a methodical drive of their own going. Charles Jackson brekas off a 21-yard run and Devin Miller makes a 32-yard catch from QB Luke Ashcraft. However, the Bayside defense finally stiffens for the first time tonight and keeps the Stalions off the scoreboard, thanks to a pass breakup from talented freshman Jy'Aire Collins.

Then it's Kyron Brown blocking a 32-yad field goal try by J.J. Thompkins of the Stallions.

That gives Bayside the ball at their own 21 with 7:15 to go in the contest.

Not much of a sense of urgency for Bayside here as the game has slowed to a crawl with all these penalties. Kam Kirby complets a pass into Green Run territory, finding freshman Jy'Aire Collins for 14 yards. On the very next play though, it's an errant throw by Kirby, intercepted by Green Run's Kason Dockins.

Now wih 5:46 to go, the Stallions are basically in run the clock out mode, leading by 17 in a game that was actually tight - 17-14 - at the break.

Green Run kept it all on the ground that series on a night when Charles Jackson rushes for 246 and 3 TD's on 17 attempts. De'Zhawn Smith - also known as A-Gap - ended up getting 44 yarads on six attempts.

The Stallions run for 292 yards on the night.
