Wow, playing football must be amazing for this guy. First, he is talented enough to play the game at a high level. Second, he gets to hang out, shower, get sweaty, hit the hot tub, etc. with a bunch of young, very fit dudes almost every day....

Professional people compartmentalize. Every interview of this guy indicates that he's a professional and a great teammate. If Mizzou players had no problem showering and playing with him I don't see why you should get a vote.

Takes a lot of courage to come out now,knowing that his draft stock will probably drop due to some NFL execs being uncomfortable drafting a gay player. I wish him the best of luck and support him 100%

Well, hurray for him. I don't respect him anymore or any less. Basically he has told the world, "I prefer sucking dick and having other men poke me in the a$$"... Well, give him a gold medal.... I frankly don't care and would have prefered not knowing... I'm not homosexual... Does it make his and everyone else's world better knowing? I was thinking the same thing. If some famous football player announced tomorrow that he is not gay, would the rest of the world give a rats? Hell, it wouldn't make the news.

I'm sure there are some teams who might take a chance on Sam and his now inherent publicity, but given the other doubts about his skills, there's no telling what round it might be. Unfortunately, the current tilt of our society means they'll blame it on homophobia instead of realizing they've helped create this situation.

Exactly. He's not going to be the only gay player in the league, and it's probably not much of a secret among the players which ones are gay. A couple of former Houston Oilers said a couple of months ago that there were a couple of gay players on the Oilers in the early 90s. Nobody cared.
He said one of the reasons he came out now was that he heard rumbling in the locker room when he was in Mobile for the Senior Bowl. This pretty much let him know that the secret hadn't been kept too well, and he wanted to maintain some respectability about the situation by announcing it on his own terms rather than waiting on a news story to break.
Why is this even an issue?
Does being gay make him a better player? A braver person? Who cares what type of person he prefers sexually?

As a straight guy, I don't know if I could handle this. I mean, think about showering with your teammates. You're all young, in good shape, and usually playing a game where you get sweaty and have to take long showers. Now when I'm cleaning the dirt off of my body and the guys next to me are wiping the sweat off of their bulging muscles, the last thing I want is a gay man next to me cleaning off his firm buttocks. I mean, if a straight guy can't enjoy a long shower with other toned men without someone else checking him out, then I wouldn't want to play football.*************
