Looks like no home games this year for the Pisgah again.

What’s happening with it? I can’t see the citizen times article? What’s the hold up?

They have to be able to get the appropriate permits to do the work in the floodplain. It requires some engineering work up front to show that doing so wouldn't effect those downstream. They'll have to meet FEMA flood insurance requirements.

I'll have to agree with ^ on this one. Gotta rebuild somewhere else. But, where though? I can't think of a great place within very close proximity. The only area I can think of big enough to do so in East Haywood County and not be in a potential future flood area that would also have the infrastructure would be somewhere in Beaverdam, the complex, maybe. In less I'm missing somewhere else. My worthless opinion, is I say somehow figure out how to turn the practice field area into a future mecca for CMS & PHS both and be done with it. If it floods up there, we're already goners...

That's the problem with mountain land, the flat parts are always down by a stream. Boone has had similar problems, just not as catastrophic. The Little League and Sr. League fields are constantly flooded by the creek that runs by the mall. Its not that big but there is a lot of run-off from the town businesses.

FEMA eventually bought out a nursing home and the NCNG armory because the New River was constantly causing the nursing home to be evacuated.. The structures were torn down and turned into soccer fields.

I'm not an engineer and I've got no idea how much property is available around the school to build a stadium. Obviously parking and that back road would have to be reconfigured and you've got the large sub-station there below the field house that would have some bearing on it I imagine. On top of that, I think they're going to have to figure out where to put BB and SB fields too.

Before they built the baseball field they looked at the land on the other side of the river where the Canton Drive-inn was years ago.As far as I know it only floods at the lower end.

Sorry to hear the field won’t be ready for football season. If home field advantage is a real thing, I guess you guys would have made it to the next round last year. Other than the last possession Pisgah had last year, that was a great game. I still don’t understand what your coach was thinking.

Do any of you know if Balsum Range is planning another charity concert this year. Last years show was great.

I would imagine with the combination of last year's flood ravaging the town and with all the Covid crap being gone now and knowing how Zeb Smathers (Mayor) works that Labor Day Weekend in Canton will be the biggest ever this year! I haven't heard anything yet though. Will let you know when I do. I would imagine Balsam Range will definitely be doing something for their home though, great guys, who always give back when they can. But, before it got canned last year Diamond Rio was supposed to be the Labor Day headliner along with several other decent names who said they would would come back post- Covid. Canton has had some huge names perform at Labor Day Fest. in the past. I'm sure this year won't disappoint.

Balsam Range is AlWAYS doing something that benefits their home town/county. I was there for that flood relief benefit. Not only did BR put on a fabulous show, but set UP the entire stage sound etc (no small task in and of itself) and helped take it down afterwards. Believe me, they have given more than their share already.

Thanks for the information PB. The wife and I are trying to figure a way to work this concert into our schedule. We are taking off the week before as a family vacation at Holden Beach. If we can make it work we will definitely be there.

I hate this for Pisgah. So much history in that old stadium. When i think of football in that part of the state I think about that stadium and that mill town and when that whistle blows on Fridays folks go in droves to support the Bears.

Any idea what the plans are?
Up first will be the stadium and the softball field. They need three bids for each. When the bids opened the first time, there was only one bid for the stadium, so they are accepting more bids starting in a week or so. If they don’t get more bids, then I think they will go with the lone bidder. With some luck, we may be able to play games in the stadium late this season.
