Why does leaving for an SEC 2 days before signing day make one have to explain his decision or be something that will haunt him if he ever leaves? Like a coach would ever leave the NFL in the middle of the season and write a note to his players instead of telling them in person. Like a coach would leave an SEC job because he cannot steer a motorcycle due to the weight imbalance of having an engaged volleyball coach riding on the back with her fiancée raining down blows on the driver of the said motorcycle. Like a coach would secretly meet with Auburn while his former boss was still the head coach. Or after all of those would leave WKU after one year when they stuck their neck out and gave him a job only to have him go back to his jilted ex wife (U of L) who he crapped on previously. You mean that kind of haunt him? [eyeroll]

This hire is EXACTLY why I've said all along that a lot of our fans need to get off the silly Louisville 'rivalry' bandwagon. They have owned us in recent years and we haven't been to a bowl game in forever, yet we're still able to steal their coaches away.

Kentucky should never be on the same level as Louisville and shame on KENTUCKY for allowing it to happen. Hopefully they'll be able to assert themselves from this point forward and this silly 'rivalry' wil die like it should've always been

He did. He brought in some kids last year....but like I said, he was 35th in the ACC last year in the rankings. Its a good hire, a splashy hire for Stoops as well. I'll be interested to see who Coach Petrino replaces him with and if he'll go to another former player or look to his brother Paul.

This is a serious question: Wouldn't it make sense that if Petrino was "coaching the WR's anyway," that HE would be the choice for "WR Coach?"

Somebody up above has this situation nailed. Petrino saddled Thomas with his boy to make him an asst coach. Thomas became tired of babysitting the little prick and decided to move on. I'm sure Petrino will find a sucker somewhere.

Thats my point with UL fans....if little Petrino was the WR coach all a long why hire another just pronounce little P as WR coach NOW!

I will never be able to take MJ seriously after the way he trashed Calipari in the past. The guy is a joke who will say or do anything.

One day enough UK fans will get fed up and run him off like Marc Maggard.
You are dreaming . He gets more popular every day .

I don't doubt that for a second - you don't pay a coaches salary for a guy to hold a football all practice - just pointing out the silly part about it being "illegal" for a GA to coach.
Once again a louisville told me Nick Petrino was the wr coach if that is true that is against NCAA rules because Louisville would have to many staff members. You can't just have 50 coaches.

It's funny because Louisville fans say the same thing about UK, yet we both still talk about each other. The song "stuck in the middle with you" comes to mind.

You know I thought that scumbag POS would not be able to recruit at all at Otis, but it looks like he's doing a pretty damn good job in both areas despite his troubles at Arkansas... Just like I said all along these kids do not care about that kind of stuff they just want to play for a coach they know can get the job done

Why don't you go back to your board sluggercard?

He isn't. He is with you guys. Jody isn't the only one saying that about Nick Petrino. Mike Hughes on 24-7 stated this apparently has been in the works for awhile and Nick has been doing most of the work. Hughes doesn't think we will lose anyone by this move. I guess we shall see.

Congrats though. Maybe he can land you some Florida guys. He didn't land us many, but he landed Lamar Jackson so I'm thankful for that by itself.

What do you think the punishment for this violation should be?

Well, today I learned two things. One, that our new WR coach is Thomas. Two, that Little Brothel's current WR coach is Nick Petrino, and he's actually been in that position for quite some time, notwithstanding the fact everyone kept confusing his position with that of graduate assistant.

I have to give UC fans credit. Some of them did show some sour grapes attitude after the Gran hire (they used the one bad bowl game as a way to say, "we're glad he's gone, anyway"), but at least they didn't stoop to trying to claim that the real offensive coordinator was actually one of their graduate assistants.

this isn't that complex - a GA can handle on the field duties you'd normally associate with a "coach" but just not be able to recruit off campus. You don't know what you are talking about here - have you ever seen Alabama's staff - it's like a million people.

I'm not a Louisville fan - think it's a rinky dink, shady program. But, a GA can "coach" the WR group without being technically a coach. Did he? Don't know, don't care.

Dude I've been in football for 31 years your missing the point. I know what a GA is and does. A louisville fan told me Petrino was the wr coach not Thomas he did not say coach wr he said he was the coach that is against NCAA rules. All GA help out UK has a bunch but nobody would say because Andre Woodson worked with the qbs he was the wr coach.

the level of butthurt is just amazing.

But PERFECT example of just how delusional that fanbase is. They have talked themselves into believing a graduate assistant with no experience is responsible for coaching their wide receivers over an NFL vet and bad *** college wide receiver who not only has been coaching at UL since Petrino has been here but CAME WITH PETRINO FROM WKU. Why would Petrino bother carrying his water if Thomas was not going to be the WR coach? Just total delusion over there.

If he can bring in a Lamar Jackson type player and improve the WR's even a little bit, he's a homerun hire. I'm sure some will gripe because he's not some fancy name guy.

I know nothing about him but on the surface seems like a solid hire, especially if he can bring in some players from S. Florida.

You'll have to prove that one to me podge . I listen practically every day .
I don't have to prove anything Jack. He said it, I heard it. It's a fact. Must have said it on one of those practical days you missed.

You guys should try remaining impartial during future episodes such as this. The entertainment value is far better than the new Star Wars.

On with the show!

Lamar Thomas has great ties to the South Florida area, and will give us someone with legit cred down there. For this looking from the outside it is hard to understand the difference in Miami kids compared to almost any other area of the country. Everyone knows about the speed down there and that is one big thing that makes kids ready to play as freshman. What they don't realize is how physically and mentally tough these kids are compared to the rest of the country. Are there other tough areas all over - sure. But overall, kid for kid on average these kids are tough and nasty. That is why they can suit for Bama or FSU or LSU as true frosh and start. Start getting some here and develop a pipeline and it would go a long way towards elevating this program.
