Maiden vs South Caldwell

21-6 Maiden. Long night for running and passing for Maiden QB. South pounding the left side of the scrimmage behind two big guys.
Long complete pass and receiver fumbles again. Maiden turnovers are adding up. 10 minutes to go South driving into Maiden territory. Inside 20 yards line.
TD pass by South. Dang they threw a pass tonight. It was ugly but made it. South Caldwell 35-18.
Maiden QB over throws three and punter kicks one straight up for 10 yards. SC starts deep in Maiden territory. 8 minutes left.
TD run by South Caldwell. South 50-26 with less than 5 minutes to go. Catch the final score on WBTV, I'm out of here. South offensive line and receivers too much for Maiden. South used NFL strips to cause fumbles and QB had a tough night. Credit South for controlling the game.
True GoodFan. Maiden's QB always looked for Huff on pass plays and very few others. Usually just a sideline swing pass.
Over 12 to 14 yards is not a Maiden pass comfort zone with a running back playing QB. Turnovers destroyed Maiden. But the left side blocking of South Caldwell just ran over the Maiden defense. Corners and LBs are very small and South took advantage of the outside of the tackle to the left side.
Strange seeing Landon Dickerson come in and punt at 6'5 and 300 plus pounds. Actually was a great punt. Maybe tailback next week.
He played. The running back is the one who went out early along with about 4 or 5 others during the game. Sure that changes the game but good teams have to overcome that because every team has injuries. The turnovers lost this game. You can't turn the ball over 6 or 7 times and beat a good team especially when you can't consistently get defensive stops.
Huff went down early. It looked at if they were stretching his lower leg and then he returned for a series. Next thing I knew it was halftime and he was in his school clothes. Maiden threw for a lot of yardage. 300 or more if I'm not mistaken but had no running game whatsoever. Obviously the RB being out had a lot to do with that but the South defense stood up to the challenge. Maybe they focused so much on the run that they seemed to blow a lot of coverage's. But overall, Maiden couldn't stop South. Over 500 yards rushing sprinkled with around 50 yards passing. But they couldn't keep Weaver contained. I think South proved to me they are capable of playing with some of the better teams. I worried after the AC game but was much more impressed this game.

I'm not 100% sure. Went down with a sprained ankle 1st series of 2nd half. Was having a good game up to that point at RB and LB. Was playing safety but I guess they wanted him in the box more cause it was the first I've seen of him playing LB. It will be something to keep an eye on with Hibriten this week. Sprained ankles can be something that takes a very long time. But yeah 500 yards is very impressive. You get to see 300 from one back on almost every Friday with Emmons. We used to have that luxury with Pollard. It's nothing to take for granted when an offense has it rolling like that. Hopefully they can keep it rolling this week.
Emmons is special. The most explosive RB in the state. We have been blessed
with some great backs through the years and Emmons probably tops them all.

I credited South with a great game. I will add that although the defense got pushed around some, the offensive turnovers led to the defensive woes. Maiden's defensive never got a break.
He said it was a big difference...he didn't say that was the reason Maiden lost. We lost because SC had enough speed on defense to fight our speedy run game and we didn't have enough power to stop their power run game. We also didn't capitalize on SC turnovers. Our coaching staff also isn't the greatest at halftime adjustments which will play a big part throughout the season.
Not taking anything away from our coaches...but our special teams play is horrific. We can't even get 11 guys on the field for special teams and it's obvious that we can't kick an extra point so we need to stop lining up for one and wasting a time out to go for 2.
