Mallard Creek & East Forsyth easily 1 & 2 in the State 4AA, definitely some separation for 3 on down

Mount Tabor beat Butler few years ago.

I was actually happy to see MT get a win there. Butler has had trouble getting 11 games most years in the last decade, and MT showed some balls and stepped up to the plate on 4 different occasions to help out when most other teams wouldn't.

Good for them. This shows what can happen when you challenge yourself, aren't afraid of a little competition, and aren't afraid to take a chance. Tabor deserved that win and they earned it the hard way. I wouldn't mind seeing these two teams resume the series sometime in the future.

Nepsy7......You may not know this but EF DID win state championship back in 1992 and it was considered one of the best team 4A history. That EF went through the season undefeated and won state champion at UNC over Northern Durham (which won it all following year).

I have much respect for Mallard Creek but hey let EF fans enjoy the ride last year and they might be pretty good this year also. I believe EF would stomp Page also since they played earlier in the year. EF won that one by one point but had about 4 or 5 turnovers. They played a lot better as season goes along. The reason why Mallard Creek won the game because they had been in Western regional final in past 4 years or so...they know what it takes to win and move to state championship game.

Nespy7 ----You don't have to put fans from EF down . Heck CPClife is a huge WF fan. WF and EF is a huge rivalary and it is unusual to hear WF or EF give each other props. ..It has been a long time that EF were at that level. EF were a very good football school in late 70's to early 90's. They ran Wing T offense during that special year of 92 and nobody could stop them. It is good to see EF and other triad schools doing good again. I just like to see good football teams in this triad area and also good football anywhere for that matter.

I saw Page beat Richmond like a rented mule last year at Page. I cringe if Richmond play Mallard Creek or EF in playoffs. Richmond has not been that good since 2008 and yet they get better reps than EF. EF would handle Richmond past five years quite easily. I also saw Richmond beat Dudley on Monday night and it was a good thing that Richmond played in the rain. If Dudley play them in great weather, it would not be close. Rain is part of the game and that way it falls last year.

All of the teams he named have won titles since 2009. We are talking RELEVANT titles. Recent titles. Not titles 20 years ago. You don't get respect for having one ring 20yrs ago, you get respect by winning today.

Hey guys.... I am just pointing out that EF did win State Title even though it was a quite time ago (24 years ago this coming fall) . I wasn't sure if Nespy7 knew if EF won it before. That team will do well last year cuz they had winning attitude and they were huge. I have a lot of respect for Coach Willert. He is great supporter of me and my site.

It's almost like the Ric Flair saying "To be the man, you got to beat the man!" East has not beaten Mallard Creek or Butler and as long as those 2 are at that elite level they are the measuring stick.

Page finally got some respect when they beat both with James Summers. It was tough for Page fans because almost nobody gave them a shot but they did get those wins.

I'm speaking for the 4AA level, so I don't include Charlotte Catholic, Dudley, Scotland., and New Bern.

I think this is just about guaranteed to happen. Hopefully it won't be very often.

This has been an interesting thread to follow. I don't really try to hide who I pull for (North Davidson) or even who I am (I have spoken with quite a few of you guys at playoffs, mutual games, shared food with some of you pregame, etc). I pull for 4th down quarterbacks (kickers) and good football anytime, anywhere.

That being said.....I think we are blurring the lines of why we respect each other. For example, I respect the heck out of Allen Brown (legendary Thomasville coach) and only met him a few times. What he accomplished was amazing for such a small school. They haven't been "elite" good in quite a while, but I respect what he/they accomplished when he was there. More recently, our school has experienced increased football success and we have been playing deeper into the playoffs or against different/better competition. Having played both Charlotte Catholic and Scotland last year, I have great respect for their history and talent levels and their fan bases. Most recently, I got to meet 3-4 of the Mallard Creek kids this summer while on the recruiting trail and have a new found respect for them as well. (BTW, NC State feels like it is becoming Mallard Creek U!) Respect is always earned, rarely given out easily now a days, even when it should be but is withheld. You can respect the past and the present and even the future for anybody or any team, even an "enemy". I know that sounds rah rah, but it's true.

NCHSAA will not let any NC High School to be on nationwide tv like ESPN. They had been doing this for years and it is a shame though. We do have great teams and deserve to be on nationwide tv for a change. Many other states do not have that kind of restriction. We have to abide the rules as of now. Maybe one day, that rule will be changed. I think that rule has been written in to prevent from fans staying at home to watch the game. I think if any team gets on ESPN, the turnout will be better than normal due to that reason.

Coug seems to be a young man and may not realize that back in the 1980's there would have been a good chance MC would not have made the playoffs as a conference runner up. Sometimes a conference might get two in but not always.

I know there were fantastic teams in the 80s that would beat many of the great teams today. However, if we're talking about recent success determing who is a state power than East Forsyth does not have that. One regional final since 1992 is not exactly impressive.

Mallard Creek only managed to find 10 games this season, with three of them having to be out-of-state opponents.

East Forsyth has to play in county schools correct? First four games are Forsyth county schools. Then week 11 game is a conference game.

So explain what date was talked about? I post every year for Palmieri about games. Scotland is needing games too next year.

My cousin knows an assistant coach at East. I saw this post and had to get him to find out. According to him he just said they did not try to schedule Mallard Creek. He said Forsyth County makes them schedule non conference games and they had one open and Page took that offer. East felt Page would be a quality team to play without traveling 150 miles.

Who do you talk to? How do you get so much inside info on East? My Cousin knows a couple coaches there. I know a couple coaches at NW Guilford so I try to follow as many NW games as possible. If they're out of town I catch an East game.

From what my cousin says the East Forsyth coaches are really good coaches and even better guys. They do a lot (like most HS coaches do) for kids on their team outside of football. Every time I've been to an East game the fans have been great to sit have a hot dog, and chat HS Football with. I think some posters on HS forums give East fans/coaches a bad name. Its a shame because I think the East coaches have done an amazing job at that school and IMO are very underrated. I know they won a championship in 92 but East was really bad for a long time. Coach Willert and his staff have done a great job. They may not be on the level of a MC or Butler but I can tell you as someone being around NW and other teams in the Triad. Not many teams around here get a lot of sleep on the game week leading up to East Forsyth.

UPDATE: Chris Hughes attended a recent NCHSAA football coaches rules meeting where it was clarified that there WILL still be subdividing, so the new handbook confusion appears to be a result of something just being really, really poorly written.

The 64 teams will be subdivided big and small (32 teams in each division) based on ADM. The 32 team divisions will then be divided into (4) 8 team "groups" based on longitude. After sorting and seeding each "group", East #1 will play Mideast #8 on so on. West #1 will play Midwest #8 and so on.

If some NCHSAA member is reading this, then I volunteer to help you re-write that section of the rules in a way that makes sense and works in the real world.

That's what you get when you try to save money and hire ct147 to write the rule book.

247 sports has the page running back at number one (Javone Leake) not sure if that's his name and Christian beal from east Forsyth at number two for runningback. So no matter what you think a lot of people would agree Christian beal is a good play maker and any high school team would be lucky to have him. He set a school rushing record as a junior and also a killer threat at QB and the slot position. So yes, personally I believe he is one of the top running backs in the state. Maybe not the best but he is definitely a top 3 running back.

Forsyth county schools do not even get to pick who they play on 2 games, they will be against other Forsyth schools and Central office picks who it will be. And all gates are split.
