Calls between Cecil and Kenny Rogers averaging over 27 per month yet Cecil wasn't pimping his own son to anyone but MSU?

that they are enforcing the rules in any kind of fair or equitable way. The simple fact is, some schools are allowed to cheat blatently and others aren't. Just look at a few recent cases:

USC - Gets hammered for an agent giving money/house to Reggie Bush. NCAA says USC either knew about it or should have known about it.

Ohio St. - Several players receive illegal benefits from car dealers, tatoo artists, etc. There is PROOF that the head coach not only knew about this, but actively tried to cover it up. The players get 6-game suspensions and the coach resigns, but otherwise OSU skates.

Miami - The guy who was providing the illegal payments/benefits to players has publicly come clean with exactly what he did and who he paid it to. He was an insider with the UM athletic dept. who was influential enough that Houston Nutt called him to talk about that coaching job instead of the AD. The players get 1-3 game suspensions, the coach is fired (he would have been fired anyway), but otherwise Miami skates.

North Carolina - A few players get relatively small amounts of illegal benefits. The players are suspended for 1 year or ruled permanently ineligible. UNC forfeits all wins for 2 years plus has scholarship reductions for the next 3 years. The NCAA hasn't yet said if these penalties are enough.

MSU - European player played against professionals, but wasn't paid. He's suspended for 1 full season + 11 games the next season.

Maryland - European player played against professionals, but wasn't paid. He's suspended for 10 games.

Like I said, the NCAA has quit even pretending that the rules apply to everybody. Some schools literally have a license to cheat.

Of course it is a case by case basis, otherwise they would be required to do things equitably. </p>

what is surprising is which side of the coin USC came down on. I'm still shocked that they were not in the same camp as the U tOSU.

Sounds like they made an attempt to bust MSU and came up short, but made no attempt to bust AU after AU said they never paid him.

NCAA investigators confirmed that Rogers and Cecil Newton met with two MSU assistant coaches during Cam Newton’s recruitment. Rogers also attended Cam Newton’s visit to MSU in the fall of 2009. Rogers told MSU booster and former quarterback John Bond that he was “trying to help [his] own g** damn school” by bringing Newton to MSU.

I won't believe for a second that Rogers wasn't going to reap financial compensation if we had paid. Plus, shirley he got part of the money from Auburn. </p>

The statement he made about "helping his own GD school" is about the most ridiculous I have ever heard. KR has had no association with MSU in decades. He has steered numerous players to colleges and NONE have been to MSU. The ONLY reason he tried to work the deal to MSU for Cam was because MSU is where Cam wanted to go primarily because of his existing relationship with Dan and Megan Mullen. Therefore Cecil ASKED KR to try and work a pay deal with MSU. Rogers didn't even send his own son who played major college football to MSU.

all the schools you mentioned (USC/OSU/Miami/NC) are getting in trouble for CURRENT players getting extra benefits. I can't remember the last school to get in trouble for giving extra benefits to a player to get them to sign. That's why with all the Cam Newton mess or the Ole Miss buying of recruits last year and on and on there is really no reason to think any of it was going to cause anyone any trouble, especially with Slive protecting all the SEC schools. If Mullen is determined to do all his recruiting "by the book" we will continue to be at a disadvantage against everyone else in the league given the current environment.

I'm guessing we will never know that information. There are two that stick out in my mind, but I would guess we never will find outwho exactly met with them. Just one more piece to the puzzle I would be interested to know about.

Whatever happened, this, along with most of the recentpunishments handed out by the NCAA, makes zero sense to me. The NCAA's inability to police its own universities with a clear, measureable enforcement policy is ridiculous. How can an overseeing body like this not have a policy of increasing severity ofpenalties to use as the basis for delivering consistent punishment to those who break its laws? Just doesn't make sense to me how they've been able to get by with this for so long.

Cecil wanted money. Cam gave Cecil 100% decision on where he landed. There was a destination lined up for if Cecil got no money. Cecil's first choice turned down his offer. Suddenly: Auburn?

The NCAA also obtained bank and telephone records and tax returns from the Newtons, Auburn staff members and Mississippi State coaches, athletic administrators and trustees during the investigation.

but, they didn't get telephone records and tax returns from Auburn trustees?

Just reality, and it illustrates how tough it is for MSU to recruit big time players that don't have a real tie to MSU. Cam Newton was going wherever he could start and get to the NFL quickly. Last year's Auburn team was just a better situation. He probably thought like every other recruit......I have a better chance to win and succeed at Oklahoma/Tennessee/Auburn than MSU. Do any of you really think that line of thinking is off base? Until we win consistently, we won't pull in championship level talent like Newton.<div>
</div><div>So with that, he said, "Sure, I'll go to MSU if you pay me" to even the playing field. And we told his *** no. Auburn may not have done anything wrong on their behalf (at least out of the ordinary) but at the same time, Newton should have been ruled ineligible and they should have to forfeit the games and championship.</div>

Do you think Auburn would have done the same?<div>
</div><div>They would have struggled to be bowl eligible without Cam.</div>

But Cam Newton was quoted as saying that he wanted to go to MSU but his dad Cecil decided he would go to Auburn.
