Just listened to the first few minutes of your show and I'm gonna be honest with you your wrong but in a slight way your right.

Your right when you say "something" needs to change. We aren't gonna play Dak over Tyler next yr, lets go ahead and get that out of the way. And another thing lets get out of the way.....We're not gonna get in the "I" either and and play "old man" Woody football either. Those aren't going to happen and I don't think they are the answer to our problems on offense. You want to see what IS the answer?

this is the air raid offense that we have at the high school I coach at. And in THIS offense not only could Tyler flourish and be a 4k yd passer but it fit/fits our personnel this yr and next yr. And please tell Todd you DON'T in fact have to have a "deep threat" to be successful either. This is what I keep 17ing saying, people ACT (Matt Wyatt) like this is what we ALREADY do and it's NOT what we do!

Also a similar concept to the air raid (father to the air raid offense) the run & shoot.

ignore the hilarity of endzone dances. Lol. But this concept is based off of a 2 by 2 set within the "ace" formation. It's a 2 step read & throw process. If you watch the qb's he makes the same "pivot step" every play. Theses plays are made in a base 3-4 defense (most of the time) with multiple looks of cover 2, 3 & even blitz packages from the boundary & the field side. And as a defense you can't get lost in the hope that the qb cutting off half of the field (as it looks like he consistently goes to his right) because he fools you with the same 2 step pivot and takes that third step to go back to the left for a stop, a comeback, a stick or a crosser. It nullifies the poor OL blocking because it's a HARD 2 step read. It's EXTREMELY hard to sack a qb's when he's making a 2 step read & drop NOBODY is that fast. Look at Troy they run the air raid and it's the hybrid of the run & shoot. We already are in the "ace" anyways in run plays it won't be hard to put this in our current offense since we are already in that formation. It does put more pressure on your WRs though because some of te routes are "read" routes for them. Here's another from the Godfather (sorry Stephen) of it all June Jones

Where would all of the fun be watching 9 minute offensive plays unfold if we go all air raid on that ***?

In all seriousness, I agree that there needs to be a change. I have little faith that there will be though. Fingers crossed for 6-6 next year. Its going to be rough.

you make some very valid points- but I'm being realistic on what we actually might do. I dont see us making a complete offensive scheme change- I just dont. Mullen is who he is and believes in his system. I'm looking at slight changes we could make to make Russell successful next season or the offense in general. I think adding some Pro-set I to what we already run is the best adjustment we can make with Tyler at QB

What I'm suggesting is actually a little more realistic than what you are suggesting. We are ALREADY in the ace, we don't even have the "I" or any pro-set forms in our playbook. I'm not suggesting a "scheme change" we are already in the air raid realm it'll just take a tweak or two out of that form. I don't like ANY formation changes in my offense I want to stay in a base formation. Stay in the ace all game long it's fine. If we implement this into what we already have it creates more confusion Vs an opponents defense. We mainly run out of that form it would now be more diverse. Like you said "if you're going to commit to Tyler then COMMIT to him if not, switch QB's." This would be as big of a commitments as any for him. And if we're already in the set you can also sub the TE for the slot. #endlesspossibilities

Whatever, man. A veteran OL and QB make 6-6 the bare minimum. You have no knowledge of football. We WILL beat one of better teams on our schedule next year.

For the 15th time, THE DEFENSE IS WHAT SHOULD CHANGE......

the offense is doing just fine, especially with all the veterans we will have coming back.

We were 77th in the country in Total Offense. We only converted 36% of our 3rd down plays. Our offense in 2010- the one that people complained about that was so bad because Relf couldnt throw- was just as good by the numbers and better in some areas- especially on 3rd down. And we played a much easier schedule this season than we did in 2010.

Think about it Goat- the offense that ran the ball 24 straight times vs Florida because it couldnt pass was just as good as it was this season with all the Miss State passing records going down. No, the offense is not "just fine"

^^^ THIS

I agree I don't expect much change next year given we saw almost zero change during the season this year and if we do the same thing but without the most dynamic receiver we had this year its going to be a pretty vanilla offense. Bumphis had over 900 yards receiving this year with 12 TDs and that is pretty dynamic for us. I don't see anybody next year duplicating that based on what we have coming back and coming in at WR.

My point is that a deep threat

would help us out a lot because it would draw safeties out of the box and make us more dangerous. We didn't have one this year and it really limited us- I don't think there is any doubt about that.

You DON'T have to have a guy like that in an offense like that. When's the last June Jones/Houston WR to make a decent NFL career? Few if any. Guys like Bumphis, Ceto, Sanders, Lewis, Heavens would be utterly dangerous in this concept.

And Goat, C34 is right we were one of the worst damn red zone offenses in the SEC and were worse this yr than a 1 trick pony style QB like Relf.
