Should be a good game between Marvin Ridge vs Charlotte Catholic. Both teams looks 7-2 according to Max Prep. Personally I wouldn’t be surprised Catholic takes this one. Thoughts or predictions

Does Marvin Ridge have a natural grass or artificial turf field ?

For the record, Catholic is 6-0 against MR. But that is all in the past...

Weddington ran for over 200 yards on MR. Catholic might run for 400. CC wins this one.

I like CC in a close one and then get beat again 45-0 by Weddington
Both teams have to take care of business this week. With 4A this year, if you show up with your B game and lay an egg, you could go home regardless who you play. Talk at me next week if we both are still around.

it was a story of two different half's . Very similar to the Butler game. CCHS only scored three times in the first half because we only had the ball three times. Probably had 200 yards rushing in the first half. We missed two extra points in the first half. Poor kicker did not have a good night. MR played much better in the second half and dominated like we did in the first half. and took the lead with about four minutes left. However CCHS went the length of the field in much the same way it played in the first half but ran out of time and thus had to kick a FG because we were out of time at the 10. Give MR credit, someone needs to cheer up our kicker.

Guess playing real comp and no subdivision playoffs showed the truth about Charlotte Catholic. Theyll be begging to get back to 2A/3A ball pretty soon.
Do you think it is fair to say this is not one of the better Catholic teams? I don't think they would have ever won a non split class 4A title but would have been more competitive than this squad.

Its not as good as its played better comp throughout the year. It wears on a team in 4A whereas years past CC cruised regular season in 3a, then got a subdivision playoffs. Now vs. True comp in 4A conference they get worn down and what was an easy first round game became a difficult one. Look at Dudley, Crest, Scotland County. Typical 4A powers that have been playing 3A. Its just not as physical as taxing. Prime example watching stuart Cramer and WC tonight. WC entirely different class of athlete 4A vs. 3A

CC even its best years was dominated by MC and NW.

2013 the year they lost to both was a very good team, but not one of the best.

I am sure you are enjoying your condescending self satisfaction for the moment. I am a little confused though. You have written volumes saying that Catholic shouldn't be allowed to compete because of unfair advantages. No you imply they are unable to compete. Perhaps just more biased anti Catholic rhetoric from one of the more narrow minded posters on this board where logic and fact are in extremely short supply.

First of all, congrats to Marvin Ridge. 1st half, they looked like they didn't belong on the field with Catholic. 2nd half, they turned it around and made enough plays both offensively and defensively to win. Catholic could have easily won this game and blew the opportunity. No whining, no excuses, Marvin Ridge gutted this one out and earned it. Best of luck to them in the next round.

For the record, Catholic has never shied away from competition at any level. They have been willing to schedule out of state national powers long before some of the other Charlotte area schools were doing it. They scheduled annual scrimmages with Independence during the Knotts heydays and played Mallard Creek twice during their run. Many of the Charlotte area schools, other than South Meck, would not schedule OOC games with them. Myers Park dropped them after 4 consecutive butt whippings. They will not be looking to get back to 2A/3A. Perfectly happy to be playing 4A in the Charlotte area. Always a long term goal and have done it before in a previous NCHSAA alignment. No fear of next year either as this year's team returns a lot of starting sophomores and juniors in key positions. For now, we get to humbly observe the balance of this season.

Catholic blew it by calling a fake punt when up 13 and giving the ball to Marvin Ridge on the 50. Instead of punting and pinning them deep. That was big turning point in the game imo

Catholic is an excellent football program. Have said many times previously. Personally i dont think they should compete with publics but thats me. Doesnt take away from their great program..just noting alot of that dominance was against 3A competition. 4A comp is much more balanced and there is a wear and tear factor to the season. Historically 4A teams that move down to 3A do very well in 3A vs. Being avg. In 4a. Conversely historical 3A teams that move up to 4A dont do as well. Just an observation. That 13 team dominated in 3A. Vs. 4a wasnt close. Just a point of reference when comparing CC in 4A now. Great season for the cougs!

You talking out of your you know what right now. You just making up stuff right now. Show me the average teams in 4A that moved down and became dominant in 3A. Also what powerhouse 3A moved up and became average? There is more data on 4A schools moving down and getting their butts handed to them. The biggest issue in 4A previously and probably now is the size of the 4A schools. The largest 4A schools should be better than teams that are barely 4A. There are huge enrollment differences within 4A.

You saying that Cramer is a representation of the athletes at all 3A schools? Isn’t WC 3A now? Why you claiming 4A for them? You are not making sense.

Have you lived here?? These are the EXACT same teams and type of teams we have played for 15 plus years. Yes we were 3A for a long time but no 3A Teams were local. We were a 3A team in a 4A conference in Mecklenburg county with most of the same teams we are playing now. We went about a decade with one loss in that 4A conference. We have always played this level competition. At least know what you are talking about before you speak, We have played Marvin Ridge razor thin games for three seasons, they are not a new level of competition.

Nothing in my post references Cramer, WC or anything else. Simply said the 2013 team which got beat by Northwestern in SC and crushed by Mallard Creek was not one of the top CC teams. Pretty simple.

Scotland, Dudley, Crest were all typical 4A programs historically that found great success in the small 4A and 3A ball. 4A, and the old 3AA, and 3A were watered down playoffs first few rounds. In 2021 we have no subdivision and CC has moved up to 4A with no subdivision. So your 1st and 2nd round games now are against really good comp vs. Teams with losing records had no chance. CC often was not challenged in the playoffs til later rounds. Butler just learned this. MC was a much more game opponent than some 4AA first round patsy. CC will be much bettet next year and continue their great run. They had a great season. 👍

We’re still relevant. Unlike SWO. Sometimes first round losses happen to elite programs. You know nothing about what an elite program is though. Clown boy.

Choir boy close your mouth and go back to daycare camp. CC won't win anything playing in the correct classification lol.....
