Maryland has another one

Auburn team that should’ve beaten Bama, but everyone thinks Bama is so dominant.
Auburn ran a bit of motion and misdirection in that game. Unless Michigan changes their MO, that’s not how they operate on offense.

They try to just run you over and while Alabama defense isn’t as good as past ones I think it’s good enough to not be bullied. There have been times like UF one year when Mullen was there and maybe another one or two but it’s not something you see often.

Maryland is as e inconsistant as you can get. Capable of beating one of the Big 10 East one day and losing to Temple the next week.

If you watch the route designs of nearly all these other teams - you can see why they get easier completions and guys magically appear open. I don’t observe that much in RUs offense.
Having an QB that has accuracy issues in every game makes the Passing game worthless.
Route design while important is meaningless if the QB continues to overthrow Receivers.

Maryland has been the beneficiary of some great bowl game draws in their favor. An awful, awful VA Tech and now a terrible Auburn team.

And yes, I know we got a great draw with a depleted Miami.

...something I found pretty interesting (recruiting class rankings):

In 2018 Miami rated 6th nationally with 2 5stars and 14 4stars. RU 58th. No 4 stars.

In 2019 Miami 35th RU 53rd. Miami 7 4stars RU 0.

In 2020 Miami 13th RU 67th. 13 4stars to none

In 2021 Miami 12th RU 32nd. 1 5star, 12 4stars to RU 3 4stars

In 2022 Miami 34th RU 38th. 8 4stars to RU 5 4 stars.

2023 Miami 8th RU 62nd. Miami 2 5stars and 15 4stars.

In all Miami 5 5 stars and 68 4 stars. RU no 5 stars and 8 4 stars.
...it's almost like coaching and program climate/culture matters, right? (@Virginiarufan this wasn't being directed 'at' you at all; I just thought it was contextual food for thought)

Rutgers wasn't at full strength itself
OUT
  • Max Melton, CB
  • Johnny Langan, TE
  • Chris Long, WR
  • Tyreem Powell, LB
  • Aaron Young, RB
  • Naseim Brantley, WR
  • Tyler Needham, OL
  • Joe De Croce, OL
  • Ireland Brown, OL
both The U and Scarlet Knights had to go with the next man up approach.

As for new Turtle QBs, I think some posting about them might be in a panic mode over a few completions .

Yeah, neither has really looked that great, and are unlikely to challenge the portal guy.

I wonder if Billy Edwards will think about changing positions...

Yep. These guys aren't Taulia....although I do think RS freshman Cam Edge is going to a stud eventually.

You are better than to respond to a baiting hater. Can someone explain why some are wetting their pants over MD QB play today? Billy Edwards is 6/18. Gavin is more accurate. The other guy is 4/6 with a pick. You guys would be crucifying our QB with those stats.
I’m not concerned about the Maryland QB today but rather our own glaring QB issues.
If someone says we are not looking for a QB the obvious question is why not.

Shelby has no clue. He is a hater and a troll.

Can someone answer why this thread was started?

The insistence on trying to blame the WR is confounding. We’ve had WRs wide open. It’s the accuracy that is the issue. It hasn’t improved in two years. One nice run against BC and one against Indiana.

it’s both. WR can help a QB by getting more open. Watch the bowl game and you’ll see both.

What you said about the portal QB Maryland is getting not hacing much competition probably is true.
MJ Morris was pretty good for the Wolfpack as a backup, in 2023, for Brendan Armstrong who they got from the portal for 2023 and was Virginia's career passing leader.

Morris also backed up a good one in Devin Leary who left for Kentucky for the 2023 season after losing half the 2022 season to an injury letting Morris prove himself a capable replacement.
I think Maryland will miss Tagovailoa, but MJ Morris could prove a worthy successor.
I won't assume Rutgers will beat Maryland because Taulia's gone, just feel RU will be improved enough to win .

Honesty I'd prefer that to Always beats mediocre teams, Always loses to good teams. I just can't get excited over beating nothing but weaklings, year after year. Nothing memorable.

No sure bowl teams should be classified as weaklings .

No one wants to hear it, especially from me, but Schiano is so invested developing his prized recruit for three years he’s unwilling to admit GW is a bust and move on. Some think the MN qb is already a commit (silent verbal) but no one has offered a legit reason for such secrecy. Besides, GS is a defense-minded, exceedingly risk averse coach and he’s satisfied with our one dimensional offense.

And Why would anyone come here to be penciled in as QB2 right off the bat ?

Hope I’m wrong, but with what we actually know don’t see evidence of a legit portal QB coming here. Schiano invited the displaced/recruited over Minn QB to try to snag him as a backup.

I’m not a ‘faith’ guy. I need to see it to believe it.

Maryland's has yet another top tier QB. They are eating Auburn for lunch. Granted they have some very good wide receivers.
Was this post early in the game? Just wondering how 30% completion percentage is something to crow about. Other guy threw 6 passes and one pick 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, it was early in the game.

I think it's less about the percentage than the type of throws the QBs were making early in the game.

Eventually the offense fizzled out due to drops/inaccuracy and some conservative playcalling.

Our fans have a way of cheering on early successes of other teams in games, only to see it work as a jinx and fizzle.

Exactly what I have said all year. Route and play designs have been a problem. Specifically in the red zone. Play design can cover for lack of atleticism.

In an age when 5-win teams can get into bowl games, lots of them are weaklings. 6 and 6 is mediocre. Even 7 and 5 is not especially great when you consider everyone gets to schedule 3 sure wins every year OOC. You can have a losing record in-conference, even in a weak division like the Big Ten West, and be 7 and 5.
