The truth is that he is probably a decently talented QB who will not challenge either Russell or Prescott for playing time. Everybody is all caught up in him being Mr. All World JUCO Superhero, but the truth is those guys very, very rarely work out. Any comparison to Cam Newton is a joke. The JUCO system produces a guy with these same accolades every year. How many of those guys were big contributors in DI?
Wallace was lightly recruited out of HS, rode the pine at ASU, and transferred out because he was not being "developed" a.k.a. Freeze was paying more attention to more talented players. In reality he could be a solid backup, and upgrade from mini-Favre. Russell has two years of SEC experience, three years in the system, and a lot of time in with his receivers. Prescott fits the mold for the kind of offense we would prefer to be running. Wallace just is not going to save the world, but we do need a third QB on the roster.
That said, I hope we get Liggins as well, but he's a DE. There simply were not many good prospects that would consider us this year. Voytik was our best prospect, and we missed out on him. We had better not strike out on QB next year or we are in trouble.
UM is probably the best fit for Wallace considering he would walk into a starting role in an offense that he will have had some familiarity to him. He'll get his *** handed to him week in and week out, but he will play. That's just the way it is. We can offer him a few snaps a year and a bowl game trip. UM can offer him a start in the SEC.
