Meanwhile back East....

3A East has become a shootout as #28 seed Triton got through Jacksonville and will go to #1 seed Northern Nash on Black Friday. A bit more interesting is #10 Terry Sanford dominated #2 Eastern Alamance to renew a hometown rivalry in round 4 against #3 71st. Y'all take the East for granted and I can be honest, for good reason. But Fayetteville, home of the Airborne and Special Ops Community is coming...3 of 4 of those Quarterfinalists sit around good old Fort Liberty (used to be Fort Bragg). We might be looking at a good old "All American" finale.

We really can't call it Bragg anymore? We live in such a weak world. Not sure how I missed this in the news. I had to Google to read about it just now.

Yeah, it's a bummer. Reminds me of when we changed the name of the base camp in Baghdad from VICTORY to LIBERTY in order to make the Iraqi's feel better we kicked their ***. Obviously that didn't work.

You can call it what you want, but by 2024 the name will be changed. If the US would have properly reprimanded the South for treason like they were supposed to we wouldn't even know such a place named Fort Bragg in the first place. But here we are.

Thats a fact. I've been on Bragg for nearly 20 years. Its a unique place. I do wish the powers at be would have just named the base for a more recent famous service member, not a damn do good adjective. Plenty of outstanding choices over last 50 years to source from. Fort Colin Powell would have been good, or maybe that is what Fort Hood will change to. Who knows.

While I wouldn't mind that name, I think we should be careful about naming things after people. Powerful people especially. A lot of people have demons that are not known about until later in life. Cosby was America's dad at one point and now he's a pariah because of his actions. I know there's a difference there (celebrity vs serviceman/politician) but nonetheless, people have skeletons.

Hmmm...well said. I didn't think about that, it's a good point. I think I would have voted for FORT RAMBO if it was an option.

History has no importance? What we expect and consider normal today is exactly what expected 40 years ago? Really? Let the world evolve to the good without damning the past.

1000 percent it does. That's why museums exist.

Just because something is old doesn't mean it needs to stay that way though. The state of GA had the darn confederate battle flag as a the official state flag until 2003. Heck even now it's just a rendition of the Confederate States flag, but too many people are ignorant of that history. Mississippi is the most egregious example though with the state having the battle flag up as their state flag until 2020. It was so bad, that the universities didn't even have them flying at their schools. In short, change can be hard for a lot of people stuck in the past, but change is necessary to heal.

Well...20/20 hindsight here. At the time the South was DESTROYED. The North allowed for the memorials of confederates as part of the reconstruction...the goal was to reunite, not seed more descension. If you want an example of peace gone wrong see end of WW1, which REPRIMENDED Germany so much, 20 years later Germany tried to take over the world. Now, nearly a century and a half after the civil war the confederate icons should be scrubbed as the reality of what the evils of slavery can't be washed away in any amount of failed glory. I have a painting of Robert E. Lee, reading the bible to a little girl on his lap. It's a famous one. By all accounts Lee was one of the finest soldiers in American history and a very religious man. Yet he found himself fighting a losing war for a rebellion that tormented hundreds of thousands of innocent people. As a soldier, Lee is an example...not of what to do or who to be but rather no matter who moral and ethical we think we are, we can find ourselves on the wrong side of history. My two cents on that. With regards to renaming Fort Bragg. I would have personally voted for Fort Benavidez. If you don't know his story just search for him on YouTube (MSG Roy Benavidez). That is a true American hero.
