No it doesn’t make his tenure a bust. But he’s not worthy of that salary he’s making either.

Some of our fans love beating this drum of our history as a reason for keeping him. But the simple fact is that EVERY SEC team without Bulldogs in their name has made the Sweet 16 or beyond since 2000.

The fact is we have gotten passed by virtually the entire league since we put so much emphasis on those meaningless West banners from the Bury era.

Hell, Georgia is ranked this year so it may even be safe to say we have been passed by every team in the league at this point. But let’s keep giving Jans and everybody else a pass because of history.
These are my thoughts exactly. He's making way more than other coaches that are producing more results

Overall I have been satisfied with Jans but this season has created some doubts. He has not done well in the portal and this season was a total bust. Hot seat next season for sure.

This^^^ Jans missed big in the portal, but this was his biggest miss. We don't have an SEC big and you can't win without an SEC big. But that's not even close to ALL the issues.

Our perimeter shotting is pathetic, even though that was supposed to improve this season.
We have guys (I'm looking at you McGhee) airing it out on social media.
We seem to have completely forgotten how to play D, which was our strong point in years past.
They seem to lack leadership, although I'm not in the locker room to confirm.

This team just isn't good, and I have no reason to believe they will get better.
Yeah, I’ll say it again. There is absolutely nothing that this team does well. Defense, rebounding, scoring in the paint, long range shooting…. nothing. Add to that the fact that this is yet another year in which we don’t have a genuine PG on the roster to beat a press or run the offense.

I like Jans, but it’s hard to not at least have some thought that this new era of college basketball is passing him by

He whiffed on a portal class pretty much as bad as you can whiff when you have Josh Hubbard to build around.

I’m still a believer in Jans and this season is pretty much an outlier in his career timeline. Clearly some adjustments have to be made in the offseason. He wasn’t happy with last season’s roster construct, so he took a different approach this year and got much worse.

Good lord no.

Three straight years in the tournament at Mississippi State is a pretty big achievement when you look at how it’s been since the Stansbury run. Wandering in the wilderness.
Man, I'll take 3 first round losses in 4 years every time. Now if he misses again next year, especially if he misses as badly as he will this year, it may be time to start making some hard decisions about how to move forward.

He has missed on multiple players in the portal each of the last 3 years

Ballard, Ali, Achor this season
Clary, Nwoko, & Kugel last season
The guard from Marshall & Trey Fort 2 years ago
Yeah, I didn’t realize how bad it was until someone posted it last week, but his portal recruiting has been absolutely abysmal

Each class has had at least a couple complete busts, and then the few ones that have contributed at least something were here for a year and then gone. It’s mind boggling as to how bad it’s been

We have to do a better job in the portal. I've heard we spend around 7 million and could go as high as 10. Hubbard probably gets 2 of that. Our evaluations were abysmal. We no longer play defense and it's hard to when both of your guards are tiny and you don't have a presence inside. JDF is our best defender in the post but isn't going to give us much on offense outside of putbacks and open dunks. I do like his hustle though and would keep him. He will keep getting better because he seems to have a good attitude. Jans has his weaknesses, but I don't see many coaches winning much with this group. The question is whether or not we can get the right guys next year. I'd keep Hubbard, JDF, Macura, and Bartlett. I'm not sure on anybody else. I would be interested on how Bartlett looks in practice. Can he be the big guy we need? Is he skilled?

Anchor isn’t a miss. He’s been a good contributor I think.

I wouldn't expect to ever see Bartlett in uniform. He's still 50 pounds heavier than he needs to be, is lazy at practice, and is likely going to be headed to directional school U in April.

His entire tenure has revolved around undersized guards. He will have to recruit length that can handle shoot and defend if he wants to take the next step

He’s really got the size and athleticism to be a quality rim protector on defense and a rim runner on offense.

And yet, it seems like he’s not got the understanding or toughness to fulfill that role other than in brief flashes that are increasingly fleeting.
I dont put that all on Ballard. We play him anywhere from the free throw line to all the way 5 feet beyond the three point line as his primary role appears to be to give Hubbard screens and see what happens. We do not play to Ballard's strengths. Jans does not run any offense through the middle of the floor and it drives me up a wall.
The closest we got to doing that was the Oklahoma game and it paid off.

There will have to deep analysis of the roster and nil to determine the future of the basketball roster.

Is it worth Hubbards salary to keep him? Or do you ante up to keep all rhe young players? You need to keep all of them really.

you have a nucleus of young players coming back.

Davis-Fleming
Macura
Warren
Grace

You're losing all your guards except Hubbard. I'm afraid youll have to find a way to bring Hubbard back to help those 4. However I'm sure that will limit your funds for the remainder of the roster. So you may have to scrape up bodies or hope the freshmen that haven't played this year can contribute next year Like Bartlett, Paul and Ali.
Warren should not be back. I want him to be good but he can't shoot a lick. The other three are TBD.

If true, that would be another bad evaluation.

I'd like to hold onto King Grace as well.
