I'm from Mississippi and I've literally never heard of the town of Bassfield. Are they usually pretty good?

They weren't very good until Lance Mancuso became their corch. He's already won two state titles, one at Seminary and another one.

USP being in the title game just shows how weak HS football in MS is

They played two teams from another state (Hoover and I can't remember the other, think maybe from Arkansas) and got blown out in both games. But they run through the MS teams undefeated. Thats why I think Dan needs to branch out recruiting to other state. The MS talent alone isn't near enough.

Well

to be fair, the two teams they lost to are both ranked #1 in the highest division of their states.

Yeah, but they weren't even remotely competitive in either game. Lost by 30 plus both times. And isn't USP #1 in Mississippi's largest classification? So the other state's beat is over 30 points better than Mississippi's best. I rest my case.

I cannot

speak to how they competed in either game, as I did not attend or watch them. You must get to a great deal of their games, huh?

Quite honestly

The only teams worth a darn that South Panola has beaten are Olive Branch and Madison Central. MC came out scared for some God unknown reason.

Their run through the playoffs has been Jim Hill- who got in because Murrah got eliminated because of a brawl with Vicksburg and Clinton which finished 6-5 and then MC.

The coaching in this state has to get more modern- we've discussed this before. It's slowly coming around. Most 6A teams run a spread- but like MC for example- EVERY single run play was off the zone read option.

Hoover has far less talent than South Panola if you put their players in a combine- other than Hoover's CB that's a five star related to BObby Humphrey- but Hoover is FAR better coached. They made South Panola look like a dumb bunch of hicks.

Hard for me to answer

Because I don't know what some of their opponents like Horn Lake ran.

Hoover and Bentonville (Ark.) run spreads and they kicked their ***. Olive Branch runs a spread and lost by 14. There is some kind of disconnect between who they should start at QB and that held them back some. MC runs a spread, but pussed out and got their *** kicked.

I will say this- the past few years, I haven't South Panola lose to anyone that wasn't a spread team other than Madison Central last year.

I don't follow them but I have watched Petal play them twice. They have a good young QB who is accurate as rip....they have a decent run game..both off/def lines are huge and they play hard..Brandon is a very good team....Have not watched SP play but most folks are down on them due to the fact that they lost to two outstanding out of State teams...I think SP is being punished because of their reputation and when they don't win these tough out of State games people are quick to go overboard and pummel them...I think Brandon will have to play mistake free football and then they might have a chance.

I was shocked when I saw the MC-SP score. Especially after MC just crushed Columbus and Olive Branch in the playoffs when SP won pretty close games against them. Bobby Hall chocked in a big game yet again.

I do the play by play for Brandon. Im not from there so I will be as objective as possible. The sophomore quarterback will be a division one prospect and an SEC signee. Their defensive tackle Fletcher Adams - yes the younger brother of the kid redshirting at State and the kid at Georgetown is a man. Many say he will be the top prospect in 2014. Good receivers, two solid running backs and like stated before two very big, physical lines on both sides.

Taylor Polk is a linebacker that can flat out play. Over 200 tackles last year and would have probably hit that again this year but was hurt for a few games. He will get a chance to play somewhere.

Brad Peterson runs a very good offense out of the spread and his play calling is fantastic. It should be a great game.

We need more players like Taylor Polk

I wish we would recruit him. Yes, he is only 6'0" tall, but he is smart and he can play and he will knock you out.

Honestly, Brandon might have more D-I prospects than South Panola.

I think he respects South Panola too much

I was shocked when I saw the MC-SP score. Especially after MC just crushed Columbus and Olive Branch in the playoffs when SP won pretty close games against them. Bobby Hall chocked in a big game yet again.

And it has become mental for him. Yes, I know MC beat them last year. I don't think he is going to ever win one at MC- unless South Panola goes down like they did last year. We'll see how good South Panola is once they lose Conner and Mix. Their game plan is pretty much to run behind him and have their private school QB make a few key throws. Hey, it works.

They were also down last year without their current OC, Trey Dickerson, who was the OC at South Panola during the dynasty and was the head coach at Hattiesburg for a year last year. I suspect he will get hired again as a head coach very soon or is waiting on Pogue to take another job- like maybe Tupelo?

South Panola is better than they were last year, but I don't think they are invincible. They're good enough to win 6A though.

Speaking of the Tupelo job- I've heard that they are wanting to get either Hall, Pogue, Peterson from Brandon, Trent Hammond from Amory, or Adam Dillinger from Ackerman. I think they make a good hire this time and get back to being Tupelo again.

Kevin Fant will be coaching this weekend in the 5A Title as OC for Pascagoula. Pascagoula beat the top three pinebelt-coast teams in the playoffs to win south state...

Brandon's got one he'll of a coach in Peterson. He has taken dead programs and turned them into serious contenders. He did it at Louisville & is turning Brandon over now too. BTW guys, this is our buddy the ole elfootballprofessor himself NotJoeLeeDunn aka Jake Wimberly from Make it Rain Sport! Jake do me a big favor & tell Acey I liked him better when he said before football season "man football season ain't started and I can't wait for basketball season." Lol! Now he's got his damned chest out, chin up and talking all kinds of **** on the ole twitter machine. Lol.

I'm an old fart (not as old as RocketCityDawg), but I recall Bassfield being in the playoffs (late) many years. Maybe they've had a lull lately before Mancuso.

haha I will pass the message off to Acey for you and you are right about Peterson. I take Peterson over Pogue on most days personally.

Speak of the devil....I started school a LONG time ago in Carson, MS, which is halfway between Bassfield and Prentiss. I grew up alongside a road known as "the Bassfield Road." When I was attending Collins HS, Bassfield was a MUCH bigger rival than Taylorsville. Collins is about halfway between the two.

The Tigers defense is the best I have seen. Speed and more speed. they have 4 really great players. Bradley is the best defensive player in the State. Why MSU isn't on Him is a mystery. 6'1" and 255, they say a tweener, I say a bad *** football player. Any one remember Billy Jackson?. The running back just broke Dicenzo's TD record. He's 5'11 and 190 all muscle and runs hard.Ask Louisville if they want anymore of Him. They are the best Team in the State.
