I was at MSG. One of the greatest games I have ever seen, but nothing will top Rutgers-OSU in the Holiday Festival

Rooting hard for Princeton and Brett but I don't see them beating Creighton unless they are shooting lights out from 3. Kalkbrenner is a load inside and McDermott is a tremendous coach.

The All-Star Game is Sunday and Hawk will be there as well. Gavin will be a tremendous scorer at Rutgers and absolutely could play in the NBA some day,but right now and as one NBA GM said,is a multi-year college player who will only get better in college when he gains strength. Certainly has elite shooting skills now. Again,Dylan and Ace are already slated as potential lottery picks. Far different skill sets as 17 year olds.Time will answer this, but he is already an offensive star and will only get better. The type of kid who a trip with the team to Europe will help exponentially.

Should we be worried about Ace? How solid is his commitment. Auburn still after him.

Do you think hobbs gets a HC offer and leaves and if so how bad would that be for Ace to stay committed?

What was the atmosphere there like last night? I saw a tweet saying it paled in comparison to RU-MSU last month. Maybe late-arriving Tennessee fans, but found that interesting.

Not op, but it has been mentioned here that Auburn is still after him. It’s the NIL world after all

He is right the OSU game was by far the best basketball game I have ever been to
The only thing in my opinion better but I was not there was Knicks Lakers game 7 with Willis entrance

Sure I can get on board with multi-year. Again I hope he stays longer but if I had to guess I’d say 2 and done.

2 years going against Mag will have him ready for anyone.

1 year making a Final 4 run with Ace and Harper will have him satisfied collegiately.

$10+ million will be hard to turn down (last year’s 30th pick got over $11mil)

Offense was just stunningly good
A few comments. Yes,the offense was great and certainly defense was being played by both.

I have been told by enough people that the Ace commitment is very solid.

The MSG atmosphere last night was not as good on any level as the 5 other college games I was at there this year. Michigan State had the most fans, but the prototype fan had no rooting interest. Everyone bought tickets expecting UConn or Duke.

It was a very fun night at the garden. You could feel the juice in the second half of the MSU game definitely. I must say the average MSU fan seemed to be very passive until the last few minutes of regulation and in OT. Very entertaining game. Watching Nowell is even better in person. Second game was good. A bunch of MSU fans cleared out. A lot of orange in the crowd. I thought FAU fans held their own though and obviously had a lot to cheer about in the second half. They got pretty loud. I Love going to the Sweet 16. This is my second year in a row going to the East Sweet 16. Bought a solo ticket as prices started to drop at 5pm yesterday. Best bang for your buck.

That Ohio State game in the Holiday Festival was the best game I have ever seen or been involved with also. I talk to Abdel about it all the time.

Best of Luck,

there were definitely defensive let downs in this game but for you to think that a Tom Izzo team forgot how to play defense is ridiculous. The KSU guard was impossible to stay in front of and shots were being hit from deep in this game.

For you to downplay the shot making is just ridiculous
There was breakdown after breakdown. The KSU was super quick, but no one is undefendable. If they are you need to change your defense.

Mindblowing stat for MSU looking at adjusted defensive efficiency. Since 2016 there have been only 3 games were Michigan State gave up more than 1.2 adjusted point per possession

3-18-2016 1st round NCAA T vs 15 seed M Tennessee State 81-90 loss 1.321 Adj PPP
mystery game on mystery date they gave up an adjusted 1.232 PPP
3-23-2023 3rd round NCAAT vs KSU 1.235 Adj PPP

So only 3 games above 1.2 PPP. What offensive juggernaut was the 3rd team to do it in the 8 year span

6 players were in double figures on the other team and one guy had 12 assists

You're way off-base. The defensive effort was fine on both ends. Did you not enjoy watching 45 minutes of incredible shot-making? Massoud, Nowell, Hall, Hoggard, Walker, et al were very impressive. High degree of difficulty deep 3's, finishing drives...
No i was shocked watching how an Izzo coach team could break down possession after possession and not stop dribble penetration. I also knew watching MSU play RU 2X MSU guards aren't really threats to beat you off the dribble.

Obviously credit to Nowell and KSU wings making hard cuts off the ball, but MSU doesn't defend like that.

@RU72 I hope Gavin remains on the banks for awhile. However, when it comes to Griffiths, I can't help but think of Kevin Huerter. Both 6-7 with a deadly jump shot. Both similarly ranked coming out of high school. (Gavin is a bit higher.)

As we know, Huerter left Maryland after two seasons.

I think MSU under Tom Izzo has some horrible record at MSG like 2-15 or something. Remember them saying that before our game against them. Added 2 more Ls this year to that

I loved the numerous times when the Eastern Regional was held at the Meadowlands. The reason? RU was the host school and RU STHs were able to buy tix at face value... and the seats were pretty good!

Off the top of my head, the most memorable games involved Oklahoma State. In the 1995 Sweet 16, Bryant "Big Country" Reeves led the Cowboys to an upset victory over No. 1 seed Wake Forest, with Tim Duncan and Randolph Childress. IIRC, Duncan had more than 20 rebounds.

The best game, by far, was OSU's win over St. Joseph's in the Elite 8 in 2004. I was really pulling for the Hawks. Prior to its defeat to OSU, St. Joe's only loss that season was to Xavier in the A-10 tourney.

Look at those beautiful block R's on the court!!! 😎

Ace posted a video 2 days ago, working out in his Rutgers gear. If he's proudly wearing his RU gear after our collapse, then he's probably made his mind up. Oh and Dylan rehared Ace highlights a week ago on his Instagram

So was I. As cool as that game was, I don't think it compared. Perhaps I was more jaded by then.
Oh, the Syracuse fan I took to that game gave me an orange Marathon Man t-shirt that Syracuse had made to commemorate the game

What did you pay and where did you sit? I was peaking but prices never got to the level that had me biting.

Tickets aren't that high for Saturday. I am expecting you can get get in the building for under $100 after costs if you wait until tomorrow.

I think that's a good comp. Gavin maybe more of a ballhandler/slasher. Huerter more of a mid-range game but good overall comp. AND...

I sat in 307 for $150. It is a very comfortable suite up off the Chase bridge. The first game was worth admission alone. But yeah i saw prices coming down for tomorrow already. FAU and KSU are not the biggest of brands especially up here so that helps.

Just like the UCLA/Gonzaga game. I was confused when I saw so many shots going in during both these games. And free throws too!
❔

UCLA had an 11-minute stretch in the second half in which it didn't score a field goal.

If Miami player got 800,000 and if he was offered double that to play at Auburn why would he play at Rutgers?
Bro you’re outdated. Rutgers is swinging it’s dick around with basketball NIL.

Rutgers not having the financial support for athletics has been the biggest lie to people here.

The financial support and donors has ALWAYS been there.

It’s just that people with money aren’t idiots. They have brains, which is why they have money. They aren’t going to invest in something that’s not going to invest in itself.

Rutgers has finally made a commitment to athletics and the money is there.
