Wakefield only scored on a fumbled punt, otherwise MC defense shut them and their NCSU bound QB down. 50-7 and it could have been much, much worse.

MC has solid OOC schedule with Wakefield, Rocky Mount and Garner.

7 starters back on both sides of the ball.

agreed. MC has never played Garner tough. They out athlete them, but they never hit as hard and through the echo of the whistle like Garner does. I think should be a good game and with it at MC's place, I have it MC 37, Garner 34

When the #1 seed in the playoffs and heavy favorite to win the East bracket gets blown out on their own field by a #6 seed on a long road trip (who then goes on the next week to get blown out themselves), you fell on your face.

The eastern half of the 4AA is very weak almost every year. Honest question for you (because I don't know), how many times has Middle Creek ever won the weak half of the bracket? And I mean ever as in the entire history of the universe?

If your goal is simply to load up on cupcakes every year and post really good (and misleading) records, then you have a right to be proud of what Middle Creek has accomplished so far.

Some people's goals aren't nearly that low, sorry to say.

Obviously, you don't watch the games, you just read about them. I don't know how long they have been in existence, but Middle Creek is only about 12 years old so we aren't talking about a long history. They hardly loaded up on cupcakes. They play the best teams in this area.

I think the next step is to play strong teams from other areas like Richmond and two of the Charlotte schools so, but to suggest Middle Creek has played cupcakes reveals your simplicity.

I don't think they can win it based on what I have seen in the past versus Mallard Creek, Butler, or East Forsyth but they are improving as a program.

Now, I don't know what you've been told (and it's already been established that I don't know anything about football), but I still feel fairly confident in assuring you that Middle Creek is NOT playing the "best teams in the area." Besides Garner (ranked #7), the only other team on your schedule ranked in the top 70 is a 3-single-A school with literally a third of Middle Creek's enrollment.

Again, if Middle Creek's goal is to win a bunch of games against overmatched opponents, then they are doing just fine. However, if they truly want to be taken seriously on a state level and be legitimately ranked in real state polls and be talked about with genuine respect on this or any other 4A message board, then there is a serious credibility problem with Middle Creek's schedule. And this credibility problem is amplified by getting smoked in the playoffs last year as a #1 seed, which just screams of being undeserving of the seed bestowed upon them.

The good news is, it's all fixable. Play somebody...beat somebody. Everything else will work itself out. The bad news is, Garner might be the only time they see a decent 4A team all season until they hit the playoffs. When you schedule like that, it doesn't give much opportunity to prove yourself. And if Garner loses some games....

yeah, that's how I felt when I played for the 2007 Patriots. We were 18-0 and leading 14-10 in the dying moments of the Super Bowl when Tyree's helmet catch beat us. We finished 18-1 and and realized we were never close.

Not good enough. Its slightly better than the past but none of the schools will come close to preparing Middlecreek for a Page type squad. Not nearly physical enough.

There are several steps to the process of earning state-wide credibility. Middle Creek has reached the point where they've definitively proven that they can consistently kick the crap out of bad teams. That's certainly not a bad achivement...but that in itself is not top 10 worthy. There are LOTS of teams in the state who are at that level.

The next step for Middle Creek is to schedule state powers. The step after that is to beat a state power every so often (where East Forsyth is at). The step after that is to beat enough state powers to play in a championship game (where Britt was at one time). The step after that is to play in multiple championship games and actually win one of them (where Page is at the last 3 decades, and where Garner and East Forsyth were). If you really want to become elite, win multiple state championships (where Page is at all-time). If you want to become all-time elite, win multiple state championship games while kicking the snot out of every state power in sight (where Mallard Creek and Butler are, and where Indy was). Do it over several decades and you accomplish what Richmond has accomplished.

Middle Creek has come a long way in 12 years...but there is a LONG ways still to go before you start earning genuine state-wide credibility. The next challenge for Middle Creek is to up the schedule and get serious about playing top notch competition. You can't beat these teams if you don't even play them.

Good to know but I am an 81 year old HS football fan and have no pull. Only reason I am down her is that's where the family moved. I don't even have grandkids in HS anymore, just love to watch HS football. By reading this thread, it appears that you should never come on here and talk about anything until you have decades of hardware. Too bad, after I play nine each morning and after my nap, I like to play around on the message boards, whittle, and walk the dogs. I'll say whatever I want.

It's respect...everybody in NC knew what Richmond County did for NC. Until Scotland started beating the Raiders, they didn't get much respect. Throw in the Charlotte-Meck schools of Indy, Butler, and Mallard Creek (rulers of 4AA ball). Then you throw in Catholic who has won titles in 3 divisions plus GBO schools of Page and Dudley. In the East, Wake Forest, Garner, Hillside, and New Bern have all been to championships.

Until a Raleigh-area school beats one of the Charlotte or SEC teams, they will be judged like that.

I fully expect a battle of the Creeks for the 4AA title. Let's wait about 11 or 12 weeks and find out.

Whittling is cool. And Middle Creek is definitely off to a good start. You'll have fun watching them this year.

I don't know if you were around this board much last year, but there were several pundits around the state and also several of us (myself included) that predicted that Middle Creek would get over the hump, especially since it was the weakest eastern bracket in general in recent memory. We were all dead wrong. Please excuse our resulting skepticism.

81 and golfing....God Bless You. I am a big Middle Creek Fan. My son and daughter graduated from Middle Creek and my son played Football for the Mustangs. I have been to almost every Football game in the schools history. I have only missed two games. Anyway, I am 57 years old and old school. I was late to the party of social media. I had to be educated by my kids what the different initials mean. Which reminds me of the story of the 85 year old Grandmom who wanted to text her grandkids since they would never answer their cell phones. One of her precocious grandsons told her that LOL meant LOTS OF LOVE and he taught her how to send a group text. About a month later she sent out the following group text to her grandkids. "My sister Gertrude passed away peacefully in her sleep last night....LOL...I will miss her greatly"
