I'm coming to appreciate his hiring in an even greater scale. We all have these moments of weakness where the moment is bigger then ourselves. Look at what our program has gone through? Riley has had more than a few opportunities to fall short of his greatest charged duty. And that's to set an example as a leader of young men. Football and it's successes is a byproduct of that leadership. Good luck coach!

I support this statement!!! I support the players!!! I support this team and coaches!!! They need our unified fan support for the remainder of the season. I do believe that much better results on the field are coming. We have players looking strongly at our program that will provide immediate help and depth. GBR!!!

This team looks as bad as it has in most of our lifetimes. He is currently falling short thus far. What has he done to earn such praise? Not freaked out? Not fell apart on National TV? He makes millions of $'s. He is doing his job to the best of his abilities. Of that I am sure. Simply because he is not melting down isnt praise worthy IMO.

That said. I hope he is the right man to get this thing going in the right direction. However, its very rare that a stoic, not outwardly cocky, gentle coach reaches greatness. Very rare. Dr. Tom was such an anomaly.

Keep pumpin' that sunshine
I am sure your way of dealing with this season and the Nine games played under our current coaching staff is a much better way and will build towards a much more acceptable outcome. Let's create a fracture that never mends. Great idea. Keep your BOOS outside the stadium.

Riley is a BAD fit for the Huskers. You know it and so does everyone who's being honest with themselves.

I would disagree. I would look to a couple of examples to show the currently the inmates are running the asylum. For some reason Jonathan Rose has served two, 2 game suspensions this season. I can see once, but twice, that is a little troubling. What is more troubling I think is the Alex Lewis situation. Two separate incidents where he makes decisions that are embarrassing to say the least and yet not suspension and no stripping of the team captain label. Collins makes a critical personal foul penalty at the end of the Northwestern game, but Riley decides not to take him out.

I think these situations along with the fact that Nebraska is one of the most penalized teams in the country goes to show that discipline is not a big priority. To me that is not great leadership, but that is just me.

I still like the Riley hire, and I like the direction offensively. Even after all this, I still think Langsdorf is the real deal. I'm out the door on Banker though. I'm not confident in this defensive staff at all. 9 games in and still can't figure out that side of the ball. I hope MR has the guts to make a change. This is a much larger stage than Oregon State.

Just remember that Riley is only one of a dozen coaches. Will he be willing to upgrade any of them? His history says no. So unless you believe his coordinators, in particular, are also the right guys, he may be the wrong guy. See Bill Callahan. For all of his faults, the one that was by far the most damaging was his stubborn refusal to replace Coz.

I beg to differ. Mike Riley may be the right guy to read a book to his grand children's elementary school class, but he is far from qualified to lead a once storied, tradition rich football program. With that being said, the bed has been made and we all must sleep in it the next 2-3 years. I sense it will get worse before it gets better, but what do I know.

Idiots with the sunshine pumper BS. It's called being positive. I would tell you to try it but malcontents have a hard time with that. Like the late great Dalton from Roadhouse said. "Be supportive til it's time to not be supportive"

You know, I'm totally confused on this season...NEVER expected 3-6(more like 6-3,7-2), but having said that, I DON'T think it's over yet...I 'm not convinced he can't be the right guy.

Ultimately Ws will determine if Riley is the right guy. Right now - he is on the short end of that stick. I felt like he needed to show he could recruit better in Lincoln than he did at OSU - too early to call that - but he did as well as could be expected on his first class. I also thought his coaching would be a small step up from Pelini's bunker mentality. It has not been - but some of that is Bo hangover, depth issues and injuries. And he flat cost us at least 2 games with piss poor game management. Bo was either lucky or very good at managing close games - he won a bunch.

The questions I am asking about Riley are based on that what do expect. Can he be better than Pelini? Maybe. Can he take Nebraska to an elite level that Pelini never could and hang with tOSU, Mich St, etc. I have serious doubts right now. But I get that financially - we made our bed - so unless we have a sure fire coach locked up to replace Riley and the money to pay off another coach to go away....we have to let this play out at least another season.

Can you imagine if Bo were in charge of a 3-6 season? It's not every year you get an Ameer or a Westerkamp bailout.

I like an offense that can't run the ball as well.

Riley is not changing the culture. The only thing he has changed over his career is where he cashes his check.

Mike already is changing the culture that Bo had cultivated. The focus is on the team and not childish ravings of a lunatic.

I said I like the "direction offensively." I'm not ignoring our offensive woes. When our O-Line eventually gets going, and we get someone in the backfield that can hit a hole, we'll be running the ball just fine.

These are all words without meaning. Please tell me anything positive Riley has done for this program. I'll wait.

You couldn't be more right. There was a winning culture around Nebraska...Riley definitely changed that. Great job coach! Keep up the good work. Red Rover loves it.

Deep down when it comes to the nitty gritty these pass first offenses suck imo..The running game just doesn't have the same demoralizing effect

No kidding

I just love this thinking. Just because you think Mike Riley can't coach half the people here think you supported Bo. I am always for the players, after all they are just kids, but Riley in a very different way than Bo is not the answer.
