If I ran the bowl selection committee, the last team I would invite would be one that had a history of boycotting. Go ahead Minnesota boycott.

What I gathered from most articles is the suspension is from violated school conduct rules and not legal issues. Cleared from legal issues does not clear you from civil (i.e. School conduct) rules which the school feels they violated.. I think you need to be careful on which causes you choose to stand up for.

With a little help from google, you can read a copy of the police report and the EOAA report.
I'm not providing links because it's definitely not family type reading. Not very hard to find with minimal effort.
The police report basically supports that a 22 year old woman got a little drunk, a whole lot of freaky, then had buyers remorse. Phone video and non-participant witnesses seem to confirm consent and coherence.
The EOAA (Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action) report paints a picture of an unwilling victim who was possibly assaulted by10-20 men.
One scenario was probably in bad taste. The other was criminal.

IMHO, simple solution:
  • UofM administration should withdraw from bowl immediately to allow bowl time to find a replacement
  • all players boycotting practice should have their scholarships suspended indefinitely
  • players whose scholarships are suspended would have the right to earn back their scholarships by participating in Spring practice or rehab and team meetings if they are injured and can't fully participate in Spring practice

And THAT VERY MOMENT was the start of the decline of the middle class in America. Thank you Ronnie!
You are joking I hope. Ragan didn't do this because of their right to negotiate a contract. He did it because of the effect of shutting down the entire air travel grid of the United States. Some people work in an area where they simply cannot refuse to do their job as a group. Presidents have done this sort of thing with the railroads in the time of war. In fact, the right to strike was revoked during WW II by Franklin Roosevelt. There are a lot of reasons why the middle class has suffered but this wasn't one of them. How about NAFTA?

As we all know this is the direct result of the current administration policy which threatens any university with withdrawal of federal funds if they refuse to run this system of pseudo justice. This political initiative is based on flawed statistics and resulted in life changing punishment being handed out without the rule of law. I am not supporting criminals but this system of amateur university officials is not the way to determine whether a crime actually occurred. This problem is likely to be handled differently soon and hopefully it will be fair for all parties.

Look, it's OK to complain about conservative positions & presidents here, but don't complain about lib behaviors/positions or the thread likely gets locked.

The boycott is over. The players backed down.

Backed down is not a PR term.

The players brought national attention to a school issue where they feel their teammates are being treated poorly and now they go to a bowl where much of the discussion during the broadcast will be about their issue. "Backed down" does not appear to be what they did.

What's funny is these left-wing havens of higher learning are in a bad spot...

From a morality standpoint, a gang bang is typically looked down upon. But the University can't come out and just say that anymore - because everything is now acceptable. And that's basically what this was and what these guys are being punished for.

I wish they'd just flat out say, "we're suspending these players for poor character and that's that. And we're suspending the woman too because she started it."

Ok they changed their stance. Whatever you want to call it they called off the boycott, will go back to practice and will now play in the Bowl game.

The school has conduct policies which they felt this incident violated. Doesn't matter if there were some players who felt it was unfair or not. The University has the right to impose their own conduct policies.
If I were the coach, I would not go. I would tell them, you do not dictate the rules. I would either kick those players who initiated this off the team or I would run them until they wanted to quit.

Sorry I used the word "unfair." The players concerns involved issues of due process and other legal concerns.

I bet if you were the coach, you would go to the bowl game and be thankful you have a job.

I would not. Once you let the team and the players decide they will dictate how things will be done and what they will accept as far as rules go, you have lost control.

How long will you be a football coach without players?

WSU is gonna beat them anyways. They have to, as I picked them to win and must win all 42 bowl games to win my 1 million bucks.

The woman is 22. One of the first two with whom she had sex and admits it was consensual was a minor. Why hasn't SHE been charged with rape? Kicked out of school by Minn. Barred from the bowl game ? Double standard .

Nothing to this date nothing has been done to her by either the criminal authorities or Minn. pathetic miscarriage of justice by a bunch of weak prosecutors and college administrators afraid to do their job for fear of criticism by a bunch of man haters .

Sounds like the whole team would lose their scholarships then. The article also stated they would still do it even if they threaten to take scholarships away. This is a screwed up situation. It would suck to be fans of the team who are planning on this trip. Plus it would suck for their opponent if Minnesota is forced to forfeit. Is there enough time to bring in an alternate opponent, refund tickets, and resell new tickets? I am betting the school will end up giving into their demands or talk some sense into the team.

I need a Safe Space because I'm very offended by this thread.
